I'm going to give another example of a similar situation

There was a WWE wrestling match between Tom Magee and Bret Hart in 1986 that was talked about for years because after Vince McMahon saw it, he yelled "THAT'S MY NEXT WORLD CHAMPION!" at Tom Magee backstage. Unfortunately, the match was only good because of Bret Hart, and Tom Magee turned out to be a horrible wrestler. It never aired on television and the tape was presumed lost.

A few months ago, a woman who had transferred Bret Hart's personal VHS collection to DVD over a decade ago went through some boxes and found a VHS copy of the match.

She posted a short clip online to prove its legitimacy, and within a few weeks there was a live event setup for WrestleMania weekend where Tom Magee and Bret Hart would talk about the match before a ticketed audience, and at the end of the show, they would debut the full match for the live crowd.

WWE found out about this and decided to undercut the organizers of the live show. They contacted the woman, gave her a bunch of money for the tape, and they aired the match as a special on WWE Network a few days before the live event.

Bret Hart is doing one of those Q&A tours with Inside the Ropes. I had tagged my brother in law on their advertisement for the Glasgow show. He wasn't entertained, telling me he'd summarise the evening for me without parting with money.

"I made Tom Magee look good and loved cheating on my wife."

Wait, Love Kills has the rest of Queen on it? I’m a huge Queen fan and I never knew that. I remember the liner notes of Freddie’s solo collection mentioned the rock version being how the song would sound “if they’d played it at Rock in Rio.” Time for me to do a little research. I’ve got Love Kills on 12” vinyl. Found it at a record shop for $2.00.

It was a Queen song to begin with. They done a deal with Giorgio Morodor. They wanted Metropolis footage for Radio Ga Ga - which he bought rights to - and in return, they gave him Love Kills for his remake. Brian said that the acoustic version we got on that compilation 'Forever' was the way the song was intended to sound, but I'm not believing that! Great bargain you got there! Couldn't tell you how much I got mine for all those years ago but I always loved the cover of it.

I disagree about Thank God It’s Christmas. Christmas songs don’t belong on regular albums. But I don’t guess I’ve ever really thought about it, adding Let Me Live, Let Me In Your Heart Again, and Love Kills would really make The Works better. If they had done that, would you prefer Freddie’s Love Kills, the rock mix from his solo collection, or Queen’s acoustic from Queen Forever?

Freddie’s solo version would’ve fit the similar style of Radio Ga Ga, plus all of Queen played on it too. The rock mix is class though, probably my favourite out of them all.

  4. I listen to Live Era more than any other Guns record, excluding Chinese. The only issue that I’d deem to fall under poor quality would be Patience. It’s by far the least audible song, the instruments sound so distant and no consistency with the crowd.

Everything else though, overdubs, synth instead of rhythm guitar and re-recorded vocals I am totally fine with. Axl sounds, at least to my ears, at the very very top of his game on those re-recorded takes. I’d love to hear what they done with the re-recorded Appetite.

I have never heard the rumour of Axl and the lead vocal before? I wonder how much involvement each member had with that song?

That popped up around the time it leaked. Take it with a pinch of salt though! Another thing I heard that it was a Tommy song that he intended to release solo, but Axl really liked it and wanted it for Guns. None of this is confirmed and just rumour.

  6. Graham Bonnet who sang with Rainbow for a year (he's vocalist on Since You Been Gone) is 72. I listened to him do Night Games and thought he was incredible. No chance could someone sing like that at his age. Then I listened to his re-recorded album of all his hits. Sounded like the exact same vocal, at least on the chorus. There was a bit of the video that you can see he fluffs his lines.

I think that SCOM is the only GnR song that when played live never came close to the studio version. They never matched the energy of the second half live

I’ll second that. It’s not anywhere near my favourite Guns tune, but it is a masterpiece and the band at their best.

‘86 and ‘87 live shows I thought for the most part Axl sounded great. After that though it failed to match the record.
