I know I'm the vinyl guy and this might not mean a lot to others but the vinyl aspect meant a lot to me.

The fact that they're aware of how backed up the pressing plants are, says a lot to me. That says to me that something is definitely in process for a release.

I'm totally with you on this. Also, the long wait for vinyl pressing plants doesn't mean that the album can't be released. Ryan Adams, for example, released Wednesdays in late 2020 only in digital format and the physical version came early this year. Then in June 2021 he released Big Colors in digital format and cd, with a vinyl release originally announced for August and then moved to October 15 for pressing plant delays. Wishful thinking, I know, but theoretically they could release a new album digitally in September or November and then the physical version in 2022 when they're about to tour (they could even sell the records at merchandise booths if they want. Maybe have some colored limited editions available at shows only. But, well, very very wishful thinking lol).

    ^^^

There's the link to the Steve Hoffman forum, but the guy's posts and all the discussion about them there have been removed now.

I assume they posted a full list of those 26 songtitles? I had a look through the CD leaks thread, but I couldn't find a whole list including S.O.G. as mentioned. If the list was posted only on the Steve Hoffman forum I wonder if anyone has saved it. I would be very curious to see.

    Oh, that would be great!

Coincidentally, I was just looking into Cornshucker yesterday but couldn't find any band members having talked about this song prior to 2010, so I got excited when reading that Duff had talked about it in 2009.

I'll try to set you up with it asap then :)

Honestly, I forgot I had already promised to retrieve the files until I saw this thread, lol.

Other things I remember he discussed: he said gnr didn't have anything left in the vaults in complete form and anything they completed had been released. Also, he mentioned having found some guy to be the new velvet revolver singer but couldn't give the name away yet. And I asked him if they had played any shows on their way back from Seattle during the hell tour (as back then some sources were still mentioning shows and there was no confirmation whether they had happened or not), and he confirmed they did not play any shows on their way back from Seattle.

Where can I find this interview?

A good part of it was printed (translated to Italian) on an Italian magazine called Classix Metal. Duff was promoting Loaded's Sick at the time. Some time ago I talked about this with @blackstar : I'm going to retrieve the original audio files of the interview so you can use the whole version of it for the a-4-d archive 🙂

I'm pretty sure I still have it in some old data backups.

  5. I interviewed Duff in 2009 and I asked him about this song. His mind was blank at first and I had to quote him some of the lyrics to  remind him.

He said the song was a tongue in cheek tribute to The Mentors. Basically he took the "cornshucker a real buttfucker" line from the Mentors and came up with those Mentors-style lyrics, so it's not really a cover.

An additional interesting detail is then mentioned in his first book, as he says that right after he moved to L.A. he got a call from one of the Mentors (Sickie Wifebeater if I remember correctly), who asked him to join the band and he turned the offer down. Mentors had moved from Seattle to L.A. too at that point.

By the way, Art Tavana in his recent GnR book quotes an email he got from Paul, where he basically says that his role has been misunderstood by the fans and that he'd like to tell his side (and talk in general), but he's prevented by his contract.

@Blackstar I assume you read the book, may I ask how you liked it? I've been keeping an eye on it for some time and I wanted to get it. Quoting an email from Paul, even if just saying he can't talk because of NDA, seems gold to me. Is there any other new info like this in the book that makes it worth reading?

I think it was more of Slash responsibility to find someone who complemented him, because he his the guitar player, and Axl isn't. So who better than Slash to find a player that complemented him?!?

Fair enough, but if it was up to Slash, he would have kept Gilby and used the Snakepit songs for GNR. Big egos definitely played a major role in this part of the story.

That wasn’t intentional, it’s not sung that way live

That's not a strong argument. There are literally dozens of details and bits that Axl sings a different way than the studio counterpart. I'm not talking about the quality of the vocals, of course, just that he changes many things in the vocal melodies compared to the studio versions, so the fact that he doesn't reproduce that detail live doesn't mean that it's not intentional on the studio version.

Now that the album seems like a legit possibility, I hope it's a double album, or at the very least 16 tracks. We've waited too long, and if they're really going to include HS, Absurd, Atlas, Perhaps etc then it'd be nice to have at least 10 tracks or so that are completely unheard.

16 tracks (single cd but double LP) sounds amazing to me. I'd be more than ok with it even if it's just Village songs + Slither/The Seeker/Wichita and the only unheard song is one with Duff on vocals. They might even include Shadow Of Your Love again or Ain't Going Down, I'll take it. Just release it. :D

Somebody (trustworthy) has claimed to have heard Cuban skies in the chats here before and had a description of it

I only remember the story of that guy on the stevehoffman forum about hearing Cuban Skies when he met Axl, not sure if you're referring to the same person.

Anyway, after the village leaks there was this "rumor" about Dummy being Cuban Skies. No idea how legit it is, but Dummy is possibly my fave instrumental (but Me & My Elvis and the little Thyme bit are almost there as well) and I really hope they turned it into a full song. I've been trying to imagine what kind of vocals could go on it and I have really no idea, so I'm really curious about a finished version.

  11. What I've been thinking since the first time I heard State Of Grace is that the melody for the "oh my love" part sounds very similar to the orchestral bit from The General used as a show intro around 2010.

We also know that The General was brought to the table by Brain after the village sessions.

Educated guess: that bit of State Of Grace might have been reworked to fit the song brought by Brain (ie The General).
