  1. The issue with a residency... Is that a lot of the crowd are people who just happen to be in Vegas the night of the show.

The last residency (while the shows I attended were excellent) catered primarily to those fans. It would be cool if they advertised a few shows this time as catering more to the hardcore fans that want to make the trip there. Put them on weeknights if need be. Play all of CD, or some deep cuts off the Illusions and throw in a few unreleased tracks. Some kind of experimental set list.

Then just make the rest of the shows more like the typical sets we've seen the past few years where all the hits get played. I'd love to see them take advantage of the residency format this way.

That's why I thought was going to happen during their first residency.

    Didn't happen.

  2. I think if Axl released a solo piano album, it would be good. But, than again I'm into that kind of music like Elton John, so maybe I'm biased. I think if he released a solo album, be it industrial or piano, I think it would put a lot of weight off of his shoulders. He won't have to perform up the par of past GN'R album, and he'll have more freedom to do whatever he wants.

Acting? I'm not sure. As producer, sure he's good, but he really does overdo stuff to the point that is sounds very saturated and/or over the top.

I just wish we got more out of him in his prime years, and the years when he was hiding away in Malibu afraid of the world. I wish he actually stayed relevant enough to notice that, sure, there are detractors (there are with everybody) but he does have his fans. Like me. And I just want to see him be the very best he can be. And I know I'm not alone. If Axl had the passion, he could do it, he could be a star again. He got the talent, the legacy, he's good a good band. All he needs to do it show the world that he gives a fuck. I really, really hate to see one of my favorite front men reduced to a nostalgia act, playing Vegas like Motley Crue and Def Leppard. I really hope he didn't fight so hard to keep the band name only to use it for ticket sales. Why did he keep the name, to prove he doesn't need the old band? To prove he can be famous without Slash and co.? Or to get out of shape and unmotivated, on a seemingly endless tour for an album that came out 5 years ago? I sure as hell hope not.

  3. Remember everyone, this is GN'R so lower your expectations. Actually you could argue it's best not to have expectations.

Yeah, I'm not even trying to be bitter here, I've just been burnt too many times before.

That's how I feel. If we get one new song out of this, it'll be a miracle.

  4. I've stuck around (more or less) through some truly horrific shit.

I stuck around through the failure that was the launch of CD.

I stuck around through the year of silence following the launch of CD.

I stuck around when Robin quit.

I stuck around after Rio 11.

I stuck around when Axl's voice went to complete shit

I stuck around when the Nightrain scam began

I stuck around when Bridge School happened

But if someone from Bon Jovi ever joins GNR, consider me completely disinterested.

Richie Sambora is the most talented member of Bon Jovi, he's a great guitarist and vocalist. There's nothing wrong with that.

  5. It doesn't matter what Gilby did or didn't do. It doesn't matter what he contributed or not. DJ hasn't contributed shit to the name GN'R, yet he puts all the GN'R albums on his website.

I believe that if Axl didn't keep the name he wouldn't be under so much pressure. Sure, it's cool to have for ticket sales. But if Axl went solo, he wouldn't be held up to such high standards. Now, Chinese Democracy is compared to Appetite and the Illusions, where as if he went solo, he could so whatever he wants with the GN'R history become a comparable issue.

  6. Because Axl Rose is different. He's unpredictable, he's got a mystic about him, he's got bi-polar. That's why the Axl Rose interview was the only time I ever watched Jimmy Kimmel. He's not just more interesting than Slash, but everyone from old Guns. He's more interesting than a lot of rock bands because he lives in the shadows, he hides away somewhere for months at a time. And people are guessing what's going to happen when he comes back. He rarely does interviews, media appearances, he's rarely in the spotlight. And if he is, it'll be a huge moment. If he ever had a cover story fro Rolling Stone magazine, it'll be big. He's just developed a mystic about him that makes people interested in him, whether it's good or bad.

Now, after I get that out of way there's more important stuff to talk about. How in the fuck is a person who releases music on a timely basis a media whore? Because he collaborated with other musical artists, because he plays with his friends, he plays at the Super Bowl? Not one musical artist (even Axl himself) would turn down to play at the Super Bowl. He's been able to stay in the mainstream, in the spotlight because he's done everything that Axl hasn't done in the past decade. If Slash is a media whore, than I guess every other musical artist is too. Because Slash is not different from every other musician who releases music on a timely bases, tours, promotes and does interviews. So I guess during the 90's, Axl Rose was a media whore than too, right?

  7. Solo piano acoustic album. His natural baritone voice is so rich now that he's older and he doesn't use it except on Patience and verses of Don't cry, Gran Torino. It's his strength now and so much potential wasted. He would get great critical reviews and new fans. I'll never undrstand why he can't be productive like every other musician.

I would love that. If he had an album like Elton John, just him playing the piano. I mean, November Rain was a huge hit, I'm surprised he never thought about it. He can have guest on his songs, hell maybe he can even have Elton collaborate with him. That probably would be a big hit for him and it'll put him back in the mainstream. It's time he sits down and realizes what he wants to do. Continue to tour the world playing songs from 20 years ago, or make music that he enjoys.

  8. Of course people still want a reunion. Maybe if Axl actually kept either the 2002 or 2006 band together and put out new music during those times. Maybe if he stayed in shape, kept his voice in shape, and actually gave a fuck we wouldn't have so many people in the world hoping for a reunion. Maybe if he released Chinese Democracy is say, 2006, than the follow-up in 200, than the third in 2010, GN'R would have three new albums of material to tour behind. Maybe if he did interviews, told his side of story beside coming on a fan-forum and bitching, than people would understand him more.

But, nope. Chinese Democracy became a punch-line. Axl has shown time and time again that he doesn't give two fucks about the new band, at least since 2011. You have a show that's viewed by millions of people on Youtube, and thousands live, and he comes out unprofessional and unprepared. That shows you how much he cares about HIS band. And now, were stuck in no-news land, hoping that we might get a DVD of a terrible sounding Axl from last year. And Axl has his entourage of Brazilian no names as the management team of a legendary rock band.

It's understandable that there are people who still want a reunion. And it's good to know that even the members of Axl's band understand it, unlike some poster's on this forum.

This nails it on the head. And in addition to this post I would say that it is perfectly understandable for people to want a group of musicians together that were actually part of the collective that was the biggest band in world.

Yeah, and even if Axl's bitterness continues to drive his hatred for a man he hasn't spoke to in 20 years, the fans won't stop hoping. People on this forum can say "not in this lifetime," all they want. The fact is a majority of the world outside of this forum and HTGTH want a reunion of the old line-up. Axl could have changed their minds, and moved on musically and used his talents to have GN'R evolve into the 20th century. But the only thing he did was failed time and time again when it meant the most.

Why fight so hard to keep the name of the band if he's going to do fuck all with it musically or evolve? Sure, it allows him to tour as a nostalgia act, but I would think Axl Rose is better than that.

  10. I really don't understand why this rift exist between the fans of old band and the new band. I don't understand why a video/topic of the old band has to be derailed by fans of the new band. There would e no new band if it weren't for the old band, if they never go as big as they did Axl wouldn't be able to tour with his employees as Guns N' Roses. If Axl was able to have his band be relevant and important in the mainstream rock music scene as much as the old band was, we wouldn't have people belittling and mocking Axl's band. But they are because as far as the majority of the world goes, their a joke and Axl's a narcissist nutcase.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with being a fan of the new band, but appreciating what the old band was and did. And that was make music for their fans and act like a actual rock band, not a bunch of hired hands touring as a nostalgia act. And I say that as a fan of the new band. There's no reason to belittle or argue the old band's success, talents, or contributions to the music that made them famous 2 decades ago. Sure, you can say "they'll never reunite, so move on." Well, tell Axl that. Because as far as I know Axl's the only one that can't seem to move on.

Care to clarify where this percieved derailment of a thread by an Axl fan took place? If you're dumb enough to be referring to me, and I think you are since I am the only Axl fan posting over the last 2 pages, I would like you to explain why you think the manager that tricked Duff and Slash into signing over the name is in any way an improvement over tb, and which album that old Guns has released in the last 20 years is your favorite? Thanks.

I was no referring to you, but to the general conscious around here. It seems like no one can be civil anymore, and each topic has into a fight between the old and new band fans. I more referring to metaforcesaber's post, where as instead of being on topic, he has to make a snide comment about reunion fantasies, when no one was talking about a reunion.

On topic: After watching the video, they were just a rock n' roll band. No one was bigger than anyone else, no one had a say over anyone else. The wrote, performed, jammed and hung out together as a rock band, as friends. There was no leader, they weren't kept in the dark by their boss about new music. They were all together in a rock band playing music that they enjoyed and they became a legendary rock band because of it. No hanger's-on, no inept management, no bitterness. Just a rock n' roll band.
