  1. They all sound like gnr in their own way... if you take each ones solo work and throw it in a blender, you get the 5 headed monster that was gnr

Axls got that voice and imo an unparalleled skill for writing the lyrics, which seems to stem from some fucked up, abstract way of thinking... slash has that dirty bluesy, borderline sleazy sound on lead guitar... duff had that Seattle punkrock feel... and izzy seemed a bit like slash to me in the bluesy sense but with a little more of a country feel to him

Throw all that shit together and what youve got is the greatist mix of rock n roll artists that have ever worked together... none of them could have the old guns sound on their solo work even if they wanted to, which imo, they dont

  2. If Adler, Duff or Slash were musical geniuses then maybe it would be enticing. But really everyone is coasting off AFD which was kind of a fluke which they couldn't recreate.

Imo duff and slash may not be musical geniuses but what they did for the illusions was pure genius in itself... could they still write like that? Idk... no one does, probably not even them... and maybe they couldnt recreate afd but they created another monster in uyi 1&2

As for adler well its hard to say given his current state but he just seems like one hell of a lovable guy, which is why id like to see him if there ever was a reunion...

idk if the shows could possibly ever be as good as they once were but i think they could probably all write some serious stuff if they did get back together... i think that chemistry or lack thereof more importantly, greatly contributed to the classic music weve all come to love... pretty sure the fact that they all hated each others guts pretty music helped create that magic that became the illusions

  3. Sadly, a reunion will never happen. And what a shame that is.

If all you're gonna do is mainly tour the real deal's stuff with (mainly and essentially) a frankensteined cover band containing many who weren't even fans of most of the music they play anyways (Bumble, Stinson, Fortus), might as well reunite with the real deal.

Im not even sure if axls a huge fan of most of the stuff theyve been playing tbh

  4. It'll happen for sure. They're even planning on having Shannon Hoon do guest vocals on a new song West Arkeen co-wrote with Axl for the new album.

 now thats just plain fucking mean lol

Maybe, but as long as we're entertaining fantasies here....
well in that case who needs axl when they can just call up kurt cobain? lol im also anxiously awaiting the next slash colabo with MJ... we might even get lucky enough for them to land cliff burton to play bass too :/
  5. how the fuck does bruce dickinson have anything to do with gnr rocking the shit out of metropolis last night ? lol

well, a poster claimed that bruce dickinson sounds like mickey mouse. you can see the level of delusion of some posters keeps increasing so that they can keep believing axl somehow still has a good voice, or that other old singers sing as bad as him.

Bottom line is he brought his a-game last night... and im hoping for fans in toronto that he brings it again tonight

cool. i respect your opinion but last the time axl brought his a-game was around 2010 IMO. i wouldn't pay to watch a disguised (you can barely see his face), chubby and breathless axl.

I didnt pay to see his face... i dont care if hes chubby either... i can understand why some might find the extra weight upsetting if the main reason they liked him was his sex appeal... i never really dug that about him personally though... it actually kinda bothered me that he used to look like a chick lol that being said, i almost prefer the way he looks now

One negative affect i think his age has brought us though is the decreased energy but i guess some people age better than others... only thing i would have liked to see last night was a little more running, but then again the stage was smaller so the lack thereof wasnt as obvious

Come to think of it, i would have liked a rant or two but he didnt rant at every show in the 90s so... all in all the show was worth the money... i absolutely found no difference in his voice last night vs the 2010 voice and i saw him live then too... i do however find he was trying to rush the lyrics a bit on some of the classic stuff and i gave my opinion on why i thought he was doing that in an earlier post

I guess it just comes down to him having a few bad shows here n there, and im thankful ive never been to one... if i had, i might dislike him the way you seem to... maybe you were at a bad show in the past 3 years?

Oh and just gotta add that he had bad shows in the 80s-90s... there were shows where you could tell he was piss drunk, to the point he forgot lyrics of songs he just wrote lol you hardly ever see that as a topic of discussion though

  6. The band took a flight early this morning for Toronto. Hopefuly, Axl will be in a better shape then in 2010!

As long as he doesn't come out in a wheelchair, I think it will be easy to say "mission accomplished" on that front.

    Ali

Might not be a bad idea, 40 C with humidex today!

Air conditioning aside, it's going to be toasty in there! :tongue2:

Idk if metropolis was air conditioned or not but it sure as fuck didnt feel like it... i probably lost a few pounds from all the sweat man lol

The show was awesome though... i hope hes able to recreate what he did last night for you guys tonight in TO... have a blast!

  8. That clip of Better is better than I expected after hearing PC and what Montrealer said. Those are the parts he sometimes puts effort into, though, so I'm curious to hear what he sounded like on the rest of the song.

Watching some 2010 vids, I knew the voice was worlds apart from where it is now, but I'm just as struck by how much more energetic he was. It's really his entire performance that has fallen off a cliff.

Yeah, the rasp was back later in the song but I wish there was a full video of the song. The begining was Mickey all the way :(

HG, I don't agree with you on this. I think that the song he was most energic was The Seeker O_o

Hey don't get me wrong, it was a good show but I really feel Axl doesn't give 100% of his capacity.

im gonna have to disagree with you on that first part and the last part... i found better was really good the whole way through... about not giving 100% well idk... i think he did... like i posted earlier, it seemed like he wasnt as motivated to sing the older stuff, plus the fans singing kinda drowned alot of it out... might even have thrown him off at a few points too... imagine trying to sing a classic song like estranged, at the same time as 3000 other people... i bet its tough, even if hes the only one with a mic... i do agree with the energy on the seeker tho... seems like hes just as motivated to sing the covers as he is to sing the CD stuff... probably has alot to do with how he feels about those songs... apart from the instrumental covers, im sure axl hand picked the songs he covers... you can tell hes more motivated to sing the stuff he really feels

BTW, looking at your vid, I was right next to you.

nice lol i didnt stray too far away from the bar all night... cost me quite a bit in drinks and i feel like shit right now but it was well worth it - one thing thats still standing out in my mind is when i saw some lady punch some other lady in the face... not sure what it was all about, but i heard the pop when she landed the punch

yeah i wish i got the rest of better too but holding my phone up for 4-5 minutes straight isnt exactly fun... and it was sooooo fucking hot in there lol no clue how axl didnt get heat stroke wearing a leather jacket in that place lol i got the first couple minutes of CD too, ill try n upload it later

also seems like a smaller stage really does axl justice... i kinda find it fucked up to see him walking around a huge stage like the one at the quebec festival... with a smaller stage you dont really miss the running around like a maniac the way he used to

  11. i might be way off here, but i was at this, and it seems to me that axl doesnt enjoy signing the old stuff... dont get me wrong, he did a great job, but he seemed way more into the chinese democracy stuff (catcher, til, better) it could have had alot to do with all the fans signing along to the classics, but imo he sounded best on the 3 songs i just mentionned... might also be that im used to the energy he used to have when he sang the old stuff, compare it to now, its not the same... the CD stuff came out in 08 so weve never seen 92-93 axl singing the new stuff, which means theres nothing to compare it to but... i just really felt more energy on the newer songs, he seemed alot more motivated to perform the stuff that the classic lineup had nothing to do with
