  1. "After the show they showed a bizarre cartoon that I'm still trying to find these days. It's basically a guy that somehow manages to cut of all his limbs and in the end there's just his head left. It was bloody and I loved it."

That's "Lupo, The Butcher", see it here:

Very rare. You can count them on your hand: Deep Purple did it twice but especially with Mark 3 which just about lived up to Mark 2

Besides we are arguing about something different with Axl/DC. It is not going to have any longevity or new music as we are discussing an expedient compromise solution. Also DC (and Axl) are legacy acts, too long in the tooth to have radical line-up changes. When Brian joined, they were an upcoming international force with multiple albums ahead of them.

Well.....Slash was gone too long, right? It was VERY radical!!

  3. could Izzy and Steven really do a world tour? We haven't seen that since their full time commitment for GN'R - and that was 25+ years ago!!
Also take a look at Axl's 2008 chats, where he only saw Slash and Duff being able to do a professional world tour.

  4. thats the VHS transfer of mine! an anlog transfer, it was never aired like that, let alone 60fps. what you get to see is a VHS -> DVD -> ?? -> youtube conversion. as you see it at least 2x (probably 3x) transfer/(re-)encoding steps in between of what you see.
my tipp: get that DVDr circulating ("Ritz Destruction!") to get the best quality we have for now (march 2016) from the Ritz88 show.

  5. regarding the 1st GN'R demo from autumn 1985:

    1) Welcome To The Jungle
    2) Anything Goes
    3) Don't Cry
    4) Back Off Bitch
    5) Think About You

    - we officially have "Don't Cry" from that, released as B-side on the Don't Cry single. Check it out to see what quality from their 1st demo is in their vaults.
    - "Welcome To The Jungle", "Anything Goes",  "Don't Cry" and "Back Off Bitch" are circulating on a couple of bootlegs. they are similar to the official "Don't Cry" demo, meaning they are recorded professionally in a studio with stereo and multilayer tracks with background vocals etc. This can help to seperate them from "on-the-fly" live recording sessions like "The Sound City Demos" from 1986 and more. However all circulating 1st demo copies are very low quality sourced from high generated cassette copies.
    - "Think About You" is NOT widely circulating. It appears it raely made it on demos given away back in 1985/86, even Marc Canter's tape doesnt have it included. So most of the circulating versions dont have that song. I do have a copy though.

    I'm the one in Australia.

I knew what I was getting in for, but I was up for a fight. Wherever there's a will, there's a way! Well, most of the time....

There is a part on their page which says " VIP merchandise will be shipped directly to each package purchaser, some exceptions may apply.  "

So I've been pestering them about the "exceptions" part. To no avail so far, but we'll see. :shrugs:

Either way, I've got a great seat to my most anticipated event in years, and I can't f'ing wait!

I'm the envy of so many people here in Australia. One mate says it will be shit because Izzy's not there, but got him to admit he'd kill to be there ;)

This will be sofa king epic! :headbang:

For VIP people coming from outside USA/Canada, check this overview:

in the buttom of the page is info "VIP PACKAGE DISCLAIMER INFORMATION" and also has an email adress. coming from europe and also wanting to have my merchandise, i wrote to that adress and got this reply from gnrvip a few days ago:

    "Hi ,

Thank you for your inquiry. An email will be sent to you a few days prior to the show with information on how to get your tickets. The merchandise will be collected at the venue so no need for an alternate address.

  7. "If" an 1991 illusion show would have to be released.....why the hell not vote for this one?

06.25.91 - Greensboro Coliseum, Greensboro, NC
    opening act: Skid Row
    audio/video recording?: no
notes: Apparently another long show - estimated to be around 215 minutes!! GN'R hit the stage an hour late, at 10 p.m. A large part of the audience left early, leaving many empty seats. Axl asks the audience to forgive them if their playing is a bit sloppy since they're still learning to play the new songs. After about 12:30 a.m., Axl invites the remaining audience to move down to the lower premium seats.

215min Proshot/SBD we never have heard any amateur audio or amateur video?!?! that's be nearly 4h unseen/unheard live footage with the UYI Izzy era!!!

  8. yes, thats awesome. But Marc.....as there are a couple of videos out from your 1986 footage.....it couldnt hurt to get one master copy for the fans? like a nice upgrade from one of the Roxy86 shows? i mean, we all have them already! it would just be a sweet little upgrade for us from your work and from our favourite band! and seeing that chances are about ZERO that Axl officially is goin to release any slash related stuff.....we as fans are really the one suffering.

  9. Marc, there are clips from your filming in those mini documentaries and they look great! as you know we fans have some of those shows on video......would it be possible at some point to get an quality upgrade from one of the circulating shows (complete)?

  10. And thats just the first song "Nightrain". It's the same on "Mr. Brownstone", "My Michelle" etc. Totally new end of 90s Axl voice re-recorded vocal tracks.
Yep, when you have heard Axl's voice on live versions over all the years multiple, multiple times, you get a very good idea very close to reality from what era
Axl's voice actually is sourced from.

But the different tempo (new re-recorded AFD vocals vs. 1988-1993 live shows) could still be stretched digitally so it would fit.
It's a shame Axl wasnt asked about that or gave info about yet. i could imagine huge finger pointing (again) like "We didnt had that many good sounding multitracks for releasing a proper live album on quality standards!".

    edit:
also remember Axl did build a studio on his home (which he later said he wasnt satisfied with though). So who the hell can even know what he did all sing end of 90s?? Fact is he was singing in the studio big(!) time in 1999 (or before) re-recording SCOM for Big Daddy, re-recording Appetite, re-recording LIVE ERA vocals, recording new demos/songs like "Oh my God" and the first versions of CD demos.

  11. yeah, good point with MTTC. And i agree that he most likely intentionally did re-record for LIVE ERA album itself. but still this doesnt rule out him having re-recording AFD vocally first, then playing with the new vocal layers for LIVE ERA (by the way i'll also call it like that) and then deciding like "hey, i wanna re-do MTTC now, too!" or such a thing. you know, sometimes his "muse" comes very spontanous.
Doesnt matter much in the end, because its still mainly a new studio vocal track for MTTC:

-Move to the City: The vocal track was obviously re-recorded here. Axl's voice is just very stable and strong. In the orginal show, where this track was derived from, which is the 2/22/92 Tokyo show, his voice had more of a gargled glass quality. It sounded like he was gargling glass, originally. Axl uses a much more mature 'raspy' voice here. The tone is just as deep as it was during 1993 but without 'all the jangled mess'. His voice is cleaner and stronger in this track, you can make out the words more easily.

  12. I would take all of this with a pinch of salt. People at the record label have never been the best sources of information. The band and all previous management will probably tell you the same

For me, what is interesting, is that he gives info after he left Geffen. Who does that?

If someone can PM me their name, I can look at it. I have an account on the record label's network so that might be useful

[....] If Axl would have re-recorded vocals, it would have been a whole different story. [...]

[....]and when he says he doesn't think Axl cut new tracks, he would know. Axl didn't boycott the project, but I don't think he physically participated. What you're hearing isn't close to complete shows, but neither is it re-recorded vocals. It's 'studio magic'. [...]

Äh.....you still believe Axl didnt re-record vovals on LIVE ERA?!?

Use your ears, man! Here is some "Nightrain" info (credits to "IndiannaRose"):

Nightrain: This is pretty obvious. Axl could just not do these type of screams from 1988-1994. His voice is very high, but has the tone of Axl's current voice (late 90s/early 00s). This Nightrain is close to being flawless. If you want a good representation of what Axl's Nightrain truly sounded duing that time period you can liste to the 6-17-93 Buenos Aires, Argentina show. Or you can listen to the Tokyo DVDs which have more access.

I don't know what heavily manipulated tracks done under those circumstances can sound like. I still don't think people here realize the scope of the project, they're still thinking multi-track recordings and other normal things. Which this wasn't.

I just don't think he went into the studio to cut new vocals for Live Era, ie: there wasn't a 'that was nice, Axl, but can we do another take?"

But. That isn't to say there can't be a few newer vocal lines slipped in on the thing. Axl never sang in the studio for the band rehearsals or much else, but maybe Del found something. So much of that period was recorded and videoed, tons of stuff in the vault, something could have been captured. Axl wasn't 'mute', he'd be walking through the studio and all of a sudden belt out a few lines of a song while the band rehearsed it. And I do believe I heard about one occasion when he did actually jump in and sing with the new band (and blew everybody away).

But as far as I know, he didn't specifically record anything new for Live Era.

And I should clarify my previous comments about Axl not paying attention, that reference is to the actual production, Axl was obviously involved when it came to picking the songs to be included, etc, but his input in the production was minimal.

Sorry, as far as i agree that "heavily manipulated" leaves much interpretation to offer, my ears wont ever agree that Axl didnt re-record vocals for LIVE ERA big time, meaning there are vocals tracks on it NOT being sourced from 1988-1993. Once again, listen to "Nightrain".....it's totally sounding like a new Axl voice studio recording vocally from end of the 90s. And let's not forget that Axl actually went into the studio end of 90s and DID record vocals for a re-recorded version of "Appetite for Destruction".

(some of the following words are copy/pasted from "sunburn", because i'm too lazy to (re-)type the info):

    Appetite For Destruction (Re-recording)

    In Axl’s words:

    Axl: I have re-recorded "Appetite"

Axl: [We recorded all] with the exception of two songs, because we replaced those with "You Could Be Mine," and "Patience," and why do that? Well, we had to rehearse them anyway to be able to perform them live again, and there were a lot of recording techniques and certain subtle styles and drum fills and things like that that are kind of '80s signatures that subtly could use a little sprucing up... a little less reverb and a little less double bass and things like that.

Axl: Josh Freese on drums, Tommy Stinson on bass, Paul Tobias on guitar -- you guys know him as Paul Huge, that's how it's been written everywhere. It's Paul Tobias on guitar, and Robin Finck was on lead guitar, but that... that will stay on some of it. Robin's guitar will stay on some, but not all. I don't know what I'm going to do with it, exactly, when I would be putting that out. But you know, it has a lot of energy. Learning the old Guns songs and getting them up, you know, putting them on tape, really forced everybody to get them up to the quality that they needed to be at. Once the energy was figured out by the new guys, how much energy was needed to get the songs right, then it really helped in the writing and recording process of the new record."

    So the probable Tracklist is:

    Welcome To The Jungle

    It's So Easy

    Nightrain

    Out Ta Get Me

    Mr. Brownstone

    Paradise City

    My Michelle

    Think About You

    Sweet Child O' Mine

    Patience

    You Could Be Mine

    Rocket Queen

    Band members were:

    Axl Rose - Vocals

    Robin Finck - Guitar

    Paul Tobias - Guitar

    Tommy Stinson - Bass

    Josh Freese - Drums

    Dizzy Reed - Keyboards, Piano

Album's been produced by Sean Beavan and engineered by Critter.

    ----------------------------

We’ve (partly) heard the re-recorded version of "Sweet Child O' Mine" that was used in the movie "Big Daddy".

And now lets take a look on some dates:

    "Big Daddy" movie-release (SCOM): June 17, 1999

"End of Days" movie soundtrack release (Oh my God): November 02, 1999

Axl-Kurt Loder-interview (from the quotes above about re-recorded AFD): Axl Rose - A conversation with Kurt Loder / MTV US November 8th 1999

LIVE ERA release: November 23, 1999

Now, does this ring a bell?

Axl was in the studio recording vocals big big(!!) time in 1999 (and probably even before). Whole Appetite was already re-recorded before the LIVE ERA release. So....there are new Axl vocal studio tracks which very likely made it on LIVE ERA. Even if Axl didnt re-record them specially for LIVE ERA in the first place, they simply could have used the re-recorded new AFD vocals for LIVE ERA! Also keep in mind that Axl provenly became a big fan of studio work with copy/pasting, different layers, takes etc. etc. So when original GN'R broke up and LIVE ERA was to be released, i'm sure he liked playing around with his new vocals and stuff. Maybe it also helped him in his mind to distance himself more from his "evil" Slash era some more. And, realizing he lost his old rasp voice, to make some kind of vocal transition to his new voice we've all heard in 2001/02.

  14. yeah, we also have to admit that the re-recording vocal parts from Axl on "LIVE ERA" are very tricky, from whole re-recorded songs (like Michelle, Nightrain, Jungle etc.) to cut-and-paste parts from different sources, live and re-recorded studio versions. its a little science itself whats really goin on there! But Axl has been very busy with this LIVE ERA project for sure in his hidden years.
Even the stuff mentioned in post #97 still has some little flaws and the exact comparing project still hasnt been done 100% right by fans. But we as fans did find out the majority of Axl's studio tricks in there at least.
i might do a Tokyo92 DVD project "soon" with 2 audio tracks on it: laserdisc (= real live) and LIVE ERA audio.
