  1. He basically said theyre all writing but havent gotten together in the same room to do anything. his mood gets kind of somber when Trunk brings the subject up. it around the 12 min mark

So where does the new songs new shows fit in then?

Ok I see. He means new shows coming and the band working on new songs. I read it as new shows with new songs. I don't think he is saying anything new is he?

    No nothing new.

And yes, more shows at the end of the year but NOT witth new songs.

I got my hopes up when I read the initial OP. Oh well.

  3. It was an odd response by Scott considering it followed on from the revelation that Slash turned up drunk at Axl's house badmouthing his Velvet Revolver bandmates. Slash also got caught lying to the media.

I think there was quite a time lag though before it became apparent Slash wasn't being entirely truthful. I think he initially spent a fair bit of time convincing his VR band mates that it wasn't true. I don't think he has ever admitted to saying that stuff though only that he did go to Axl's house.

I think he did say it but I think the whole Axl being stronger and winning the war part is embellished. I can well imagine Slssh being bitchy about Scott etc...but the rest sounds like wishful thinking. JMO.

  4. i love this part LOL

"In October of 2005 Slash made an unannounced 5:30 AM visit to Axl Rose's house. Not appearing to be under the influence, Slash came to inform Axl that: 'Duff was spineless,' 'Scott [Weiland] was a fraud,' that he 'hates Matt Sorum' and that in this ongoing war, contest or whatever anyone wants to call it that Slash has waged against Axl for the better part of 20 years, that Axl has proven himself 'the stronger.' Based on his conduct in showing up at Rose's home, Axl was hopeful that Slash would live up to his pronouncements that he wanted to end the war and move on with life. Unfortunately that did not prove to be the case.

I always thought in this statement the part where Slash calls out his VR bandmates sounds entirely plausible and very Slash like but the part about waging a contest and Axl proving the stronger sounds un Slash like and rather more Axl ish. I think the truth of what happened that night lies in between the two versions.
  5. Stephanie Seymour is also 45 today (Slash 48). Didn't realise they shared a birthday.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY to both

Axl must run a mile if he meets anyone who shares this birthdate based on past experience.

  6. He is photographed looking a bit pissed sometimes at parties but I don't think he appears not to be lucid on stage most of the time. RIR and Bridge School are debatable but they are only two occasions and the claim of illness may be accurate. He did I suppose have a spate of falling on the 11/12 tour but that was more likely combinations of bad luck and alcohol. I can believe he may be on mood related medication but I don't think he is quite in Elvis/MJ territory. I hope not anyway.

  7. He almost shared his birthday with the new future monarch. Kate should have hung on a day!

Happy Birthday Slash. I expect your birthdays are far more interesting and memorable than most people's.

  8. It's an interesting point actually that the more a song is tinkered with and layered in the studio the more difficult it is to bring it to a live audience. This is probably one of the reasons Slash favours stripped back music. It's a difficult balance to make, some albums really are studio albums (not specifically talking GnR here) and it can be disappointing to hear a song you love not cut it live.

  9. I think some of them are vocally difficult to do justice to live even when on top form. Don't Damn Me is fast and furious and if not delivered in the studio style might not work so well. Something like Get in the Ring would sound a bit lame especially as the rant would have to be constantly updated or just dropped.

It's the more immature GnR songs that haven't really stood the test of time, not because they aren't good but too juvenile or of their time to be performed now.

Edit: this doesn't apply to all of the deep cuts by the way. I think they could play Coma but don't for whatever reason.

  10. It was an attempt to use the divide-and-rule policy. Gilby was ok but not irreplaceable. Plus he was Slash's confederate and like-minded musician. Axl needed a guitarist who whould share his vision

I always got the impression Slash and Gilby got along well too. It's been documented I think that Axl felt that Slash, Matt and Duff were a close knit trio so perhaps he didn't want to add to that. Would explain trying to bring in Paul Huge as an ally.

  11.

Slash's fortune is estimated on 32 million dollars while Axl's is 150 million! And that's extremely easy to explain and understand.

    - From the 44 GNR songs released between 1987 and 1991, Axl has credits for writing 37, while Slash is only credited on 21. Use Your Illusion II is practically a Rose-Stradlin album with some Slash's and Duff contributions. Axl and Izzy wrote 12 of the 14 tracks. And Bob Dylan wrote one, meaning there's one song left.

    - Like it or not, but Axl has been playing huge tours since 2001 while the only big concerts Slash plays are on festivals.

    - Slash was a major drug addict, I'm sure his snorted or injected a considerable amount of his money.

    1. Axl was/is never-has-been a prolific songwriter. He is famous for aggrandizing songwriting credit exclusively. Buckethead gets no credit on There Was a Time. Slash is given a "Thank You" on the liner notes on UYI for Estranged and November Rain. The ASCAP credits are different. Remember the icecream lady's obit in the Indiana Newspaper? Axl's a greedy selfish fucker. If Axl was a such a prolific songwriter then why did he hire TWO teams of songwriters for Chinese Democracy? This is ridiculous. Also, if people can get "minus" points for writing bad songs then "This I Love" deletes a lot of respect I had for him as a songwriter.

    2. Axl has been able to tour under the GN'R name. People will be willing to go just for the nostalgia. If CD and Axl was so successful he would not have had to re-introduce the original GN'R area as part of his tour promotion.

    3. That's all you got? I mean you had to come up with 3 things to say against Slash and the last one is that he is a drug-addict? He has been clean and he survived his excesses. Want to watch to the RIR4 video again and tell me Axl looks fine?

Tell you what Manets, why don't you post that article about Axl inviting the stagehands for Mac n' Cheese back in 1991 for the 5th time. I'm sure it will make you feel better.

What's the Indiana ice cream lady obit?

does anyone have a link or know what this story is about?

I googled it. Couldn't find much but I think it's about him queue jumping for ice cream as a kid. Lol.

  12. Look, if this actually happened, we all here would have to buy all the shares.

No. From a business perspective, that would be a mistake.

If you're thinking like a deluded Axl fan... well, I don't really know what to tell you.

It would be quite amusing having mygnrforum members as GnR management. After a few weeks I suspect team brazil would be remembered with fondness!

Nosaj I nominate you as the person who has to act as a go between Axl and the rest of the band.

  13. Hard to say. With no children that we are aware of I guess his siblings might be first in line. However assuming he has another 30/40 years to go there is time for him to fall out with everyone, make up again or even be blindsided late in life by an Anna Nicole Smith type.

  14. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/event/article-2368614/Queen-Freddie-Mercury-felt-like-god-Then-started-behaving-like-man-signed-band.html

Interesting read. Guess Axl wasn't the first difficult frontman. Probably not the last either!

Axl the first? I thought they were all pretty fuckin' difficult.

I think they probably are. I was under the impression Freddie was quite shy and unassuming too. Admittedly I've never researched much about the history of Queen.

I wouldn't trust the Daily Mail on well, anything.

Normally I wouldn't but this is an extract from a book rather than pull it out your ass journalism!
