  1. What do you want him to do, go sit in the studio 24 hours a day waiting for Axl to never show up?

I guess it would make more sense for him to spend more time working on his fashion line and auto detailing company than to work on creating new GnR music. That's like an average NBA player spending his off season fishing and running a used car lot rather than improving his basketball skills. I wish GnR was his number one priority.

Appetite is one of the best rock albums of all time because the guys in the band were living GnR 24/7. Sadly, today, GnR seems to just be a way for people in the band (including Axl) to make money.

I expect if he had more of a stake in Guns he would but that is the difference between being a contracted band member and a band partner. I'm sure Axl listens to the guys to some extent but I doubt they have any say in the future direction of the band. I can't blame him for doing his own stuff because the Guns job in theory could end at any time.

  2. I think the work you put in is great. I also think anyone who browses or posts regularly should consider donating regularly even if it is just a small amount. I know a lot of people see internet content as free but I personally would hate to see a forum I enjoy suffer through lack of funds.

  3. I would have thought they should at least give all renewed members a towel rather than have it as a competition.

Lol at the idea of third world countries running around in redundant GNR clothing. This must be where all the people who think Slash is still in the band come from!

  4. I would prefer the old quote style if possible, finding it quite hard to distinguish between quotes and replies. Upgrades are a nightmare, I haven't upgrades my phone software for ages because last time I did it totally screwed it.

  5. I had a white/blue/grey skin first thing this morning but I clicked on some button in the top left corner I think and it have me back the grey/orange layout.

The post refresh thing seems to have resolved itself now.

  6. The quote function isn't working for me either. I'm using a Samsung Android if that's any use. Could be a compatibility thing but it worked fine until today.

  7. I seem to be having trouble posting today. I click post once and nothing happens so I click again but it uploads all my paragraphs twice. Watch it not do it now on this post Lol!

    Ha it did :-)

  8. GnR have never been productive about getting stuff done and out there with the exception of the pre appetite period. Just finished reading Duff's book and it struck me how much time they spent achieving nothing as a band, it's why the other members all had their solo stuff going on. It's clear that much of this was due to Axl and his unwillingness to cooperate in the same way as anyone else.

I did think it funny though that he manged to persuade the whole band to decamp to Chicago then didn't show up, only to turn up weeks later and trash the joint. All things considered we are doing well to have the touring even if there isn't much else, I suspect he finds touring less pressuring and that combined with the fact it's how bands make money these days is why we have what we have.

  9. Is this topic allowed on HTGTH

It is! But you will eventually get banned, if you don't say Axl was 100% right and that this is very unfair! If you say the opposite even if you have your facts right, it will guide through an intense and premiscuous 40 discussion posts with Karma and it will end up on your ban from his HTGTH website permanently.

That happened to me when i claimed that the band didn't have time to record an album because of all the touring. Jarmo came up with all the excuses possible and even tried to deny that because Caram was touring with them (which doesn't mean he's recording music with them), funny part was that Bumblefoot came out on an interview a few days after i got banned from there, telling exactly what i said. "the band has been doing a lot of things including touring around the World, which didn't give us time to really sit down and work on a new album" This is more or less what Bumblefoot said. Which confirms what i was saying to Jarmo.

What an ass. Jarmo, I mean. Not you.

I guess he could ban me anyday, but in this case he got his ass handed to him, when a member of the band came in and said exactly what i was saying (and that he was criticizing and saying it wasn't true).

He probably doesn't care, I get the feeling he is more an ally of management than the band.

  10. I wonder sometimes if Axl has difficulty in working creatively with these guys because he is the boss. Just been reading some of Duff's book and one of the things he says about the creating of music and lyrics for appetite is that they all had to let it go and risk being vulnerable in front of each other to create what they did. Maybe Axl didn't feel comfortable with that process because they never fully did that as a band again.

  11. There's obviously a record in the Axl/Dj dynamic, it's another option. Better than a poke in the eye with a shitty shit.

I sure hope so- though part of me worries that Axl and Dj working on an album at this point is a bit like Hitler and Speer tinkering with their Germania models as Soviet artillery rumbles in the background.

Very unclear to me who's going to pick up the tab for more recording (particularly for anything beyond just embellishing the Chinese "left-overs") at this point...

    Hope I'm very wrong though...

Why should it have to cost a fortune though? CD only ended up that way because of excessive production, procrastination and personnel changes. None of the current guys bar Axl strike me as the procrastinating type especially DJ and BBF. I bet if the spent 4-6 weeks in a studio space as a band they could come up with a decent album at minimal cost. I think the biggest problem is that decent is not good enough for Axl, everything has to be spectacular or not at all which is a crippling mindset to have.

  12. Its quite amazing how little tolerance people have for Axl's voice. At the end of the day he's in the last 3rd of his career, no rocker from the 70's or 80's has the same voice capacity anymore its impossible to maintain and Axl's isnt exactly a conventional signing style. Whilst its a shame we didn't get more years of rasp due to all the bullshit, people have got to start accepting he will never sound the same as he did in the 80's or 90's.

I think the fact people do get so bothered by it is testament to how much more loved he is/was than other rockers.

  13. Fact is that besides the music itself, Axl looks back in the day helped him get the interest of a legion of 'fans' and become a rock star sex symbol. And it's not like he didn't like that image and he helped cultivate it....

That's what makes people give him a harder time, if he'd started his career as a chubby not so good looking guy, they wouldn't give him such a hard time nowadays.

You make a fair point here. I think being very good looking when young can be a bit of a curse sometimes. Reminds me of a guy I went to college with, totally stunning in a similar way to young Axl, he was the most attractive man I have ever met. He is forty something these days and whenever I see a current photo I am always a little gutted that the gorgeous young guy of my youth is no more. It's totally unfair because anyone meeting him for the first time now would still think he was v attractive but I can remember what was before he lost some hair and put on 20 pounds.

    Oh well, such is life...

  14. I think it was having the sole responsibility for the name that was one of the biggest problems. So much pressure to deliver something worthy, personally I think CD was but it is difficult to see that for yourself when you are close to the project. So much temptation to tinker a little bit longer. I'm a writer so I kind of understand the mentality of something never feeling quite finished enough and it can be quite crippling if you let it.

  15. Do you think Axl takes off all his jewlery when he has sex with different women?

There was a photo during the last tour of him removing it all after a show. I guess there is a reason the Parisian chick was able to make off with it!

So Axl was getting busy!! Lol

I'm quite sure he is often 'busy' lol

I wish he'd get busy with me :(

I'm not sure I'd go that far, he could sing me a lullaby though :-)

  16. Regardless he seems to have a lot of young fans though. Not sure where he picked them up? Maybe via twitter and the ashbaswag thing.

I dislike the goth tinge too. He just reminds me of someone who shops at the mall-rat store Hot Topic. Of course, Hot Topic does have the demographics you were talking about. But as far as the band, all he has to do is write some decent rock licks which can be built upon for songs. Yeah I agree though, I dunno if that's going to happen either. The eternity tour seems to be the reality, and has been for the last 11 years.

Not heard of Hot Topic before, I don't think we have a UK equivalent I can think of.
