Related: I know it doesn't matter, but I always get at least briefly distracted by his guitar not being plugged in.

I dont think that Axl has used his 1999 vocals out of laziness. He probably thought that his part of those songs has been finished and wanted the current guys (incl. Slash & Duff) to add their parts.
Exactly - he did that every time a new member joined in the 2000s too.

I monitor this off and on, so maybe I'm not that informed, but I'm surprised people don't think an album exists.
People kept writing, "We'll never see new music, this band is done, put a fork in them," then Absurd comes out. Then a little after that people started with the "Hard Skool is never coming, keep dreaming," then like a month or so later it came out. Now people are back to saying there's nothing. I was falling into the It-Will-Never-Happen camp but then they put these out, then the Universal database revealed some pretty strong evidence for an album, so it just seems reasonable to me to think that they have more material (probably CD era songs).
Now whether or not it's released is another question, but to me it's very clear music exists.

In short: ISRC codes are unique code numbers that are assigned to each unique recording (i.e. different versions of the same song get different code numbers). These codes are usually assigned by the record label after the songs have been finally mixed and before they are handed for distribution. In the case of an album, the code numbers of the songs on it are usually within a range and are sequential (e.g. ...001, ...002, and so on.).
The codes for Absurd and Hard Skool are not sequential; HS is 11 spots after Absurd. That, of course, could be just because they were assigned at different dates. However, the codes between them, as well as 12 spots after HS, are blank and not assigned to other songs by other Universal artists. So, based on that, there's been speculation that Absurd and HS may be part of an album.
The two are unrelated.
Huge thanks for this insight. This kind of locks it in for me that there is one.

I read through the last 15 or so pages and don't get what is meant by the Universal database. Can someone give a quick summary and why it matters?

I think Bucket feels/felt especially burned by the whole thing. I doubt they speak. Which is sad because a guest appearance would be so killer.

One time Fernando lied to me twice outside of the Brooklyn Bowl show. Am not a fan. I have barely read what he came here to say because I'm sure it's not that specific and even if it were it probably won't happen anyway.

I think it still ends up with a reunion. No matter how successful the album and tour was I don't think Buckethead would have stayed long term. Brian left because he was having a kid and that would have given Bucket even less reason to stay. I think there would have been lineup changes and eventually we just would have gotten to where we are now. Slash and Axl were always meant to be on stage together
I mostly agree. I think we were heading for reunion no matter what.
The only thing that I think would be different is Axl would have had an easier time. And that is only if: He named the band something besides "Guns N' Roses," the album came out, and the tours were finished. We'd still end up in big reunion, but his life would have been much easier. And if he did all that we might even still see this lineup doing things in the interim ala Slash with Myles Kennedy.

If this weren't cancelled and the tour was successful - where would Guns be right now?

Philly 2002 was to be my first ever GnR show! Had tickets to the next show too lol 🙃
Oh well at least I can say I was at a GnR riot lol
15 year old me is still crushed by it not happening. I was supposed to go to both too.
Now 34 year old me kind of thinks it's sweet I was in the riot.

When the "Eat My Silkworms" guy met Axl in 2006, apparently Axl was very open about how, after the tour got cancelled, he fell into a deep depression and sometimes didn't get out of bed for days.
I remember reading this, but not where. Do you have a link to this?

I was at the Philly show and have always been fascinated with what happened.
I can fully believe Axl cancelled it the night before, the manager didn't cancel it, and then all hell broke loose.
What I found lame was Axl's interpretation of "Clear Channel wanted the tour to fail because they had some shit going in Florida."
I hate that we'll never really know.

I have always wondered this. The alt. ones are so much stronger with so much more depth.

I've just been sent tonight's setlist + alternatives. Is it in poor taste to post those prior to the show? Need guidance from the mod's as to what we're allowed to do.
If there are major changes on it I'd like to avoid it, but honestly it's almost nearly identical to the other two (and the 100 shows prior).

I think it’s moreso due to covid than anything else. There’s still a lot of Americans unwilling to attend something like this.
Eh, they were so highly priced pre-covid too. Loads of acts are too. So many huge acts cost so much damn money for anything worth sitting in. It's the product of a million factors, but nevertheless it makes it so hard for the average person to buy 3-4 tickets.
-
What they should be doing is cutting prices for some of these ludicrously priced seats. This is why I skipped the MSG arena shows and buying nosebleeds tonight. Seeing one rock show shouldn't break the bank for the average person.

I've never really seen the appeal for a stadium concern, from a fan perspective. Even the "good" seats are sooooo far back and the sound is usually shit.
Yeah - there's not much to say about them from that perspective. It's mostly a notch for the band and could mean big bucks for the promoter.

30,000 tickets to any show is great, I agree.
I believe when Springsteen plays there it's about 55,000 seats when you factor in the seats they don't sell behind the stage. So there's likely about 20k unsold seats for tonight.

Update - my guy tells me they've sold around 30,000 tickets tonight for an 80,000 venue which is going to look very bare but at least it's less likely to be a super spreader event.
Yeeeep. Ticketmaster is looking barren.

It's hard for me to complain when we finally got something unexpected at a show. We can question the song choice, we can question why it hasn't lyrically changed at all since the village leaks. But it's undeniable that yesterday when Axl introduced it as something new, the chatroom I was in (we were watching a livestream) went absolutely bananas. This tour needed a jolt in the arm, and I am far more excited to be going to a show next month than I was after the Hershey date.
I liked the performance. I liked the way Axl sang it. I like the punk vibe it has now with guitars over the electronic version 20 years ago.
Honestly same - I was not going to MetLife and likely still won't (only nosebleeds at affordable rates), but now I'm FOR SURE tempted to go.
The "New Album" Thread . The maybe, possibly, at some point, soon, whenever, wtf Axl thread🤞

He literally had them all do that with songs that came out on CD.
