  1. Recorded these three tracks over the summer, the plan was to mix/master as an EP with my band, then record the full length. Singer ended up moving across the country and the drummer quit after that, so the band dissolved. This will be the first public posting of the tracks. They are mixed (by me, so they're not perfect) and don't have any mastering past whatever Reaper does when "rendering."

I did have our friend @SoundOfAGun try to do some mixing, but the tracks were a mess and impossible to work with since I didn't save them as stems. And now I've accidentally deleted (or lost) some of the tracks from the original recording session (maybe I shouldn't save things directly to a USB stick only ), so here they are in what's likely their final form. Imperfect recordings, they could use a few overdubs/edits, but I'm proud of the songwriting:

EDIT: In the spirit of MyGNR music challenges, if you can name all of the time signatures throughout the recordings, I'll go on a serial-liking spree of all of your posts for a few days.

I had an American doctor in Beijing. Not like that children. And he was called Bush (no relation). He offered me just about every pain killer, anti depressant before boasting about his golf package holidays he got for selecting parmaceuticsls. He said one rep offers a holiday, another golf club discounts. He said he could get many any “crud” I wanted. I was impressed and scared all at once.

Yeah this is pretty common, I hear at least (not personally involved in this field). Drug companies take doctors out to dinner, on trips, to sports games, etc. while presenting their new drug or product. They use the same tactic to lobby both our elected officials and high profile congressional/governmental staff too.

  3. Casey Hudson (BioWare studio director) Tweeted he and Mark Harrah (Dragon Age producer) are working on something and will be revealing it this month! :wow:

If it turns out to be a fucking mobile game, I am going to burn BioWare to the ground. (not really, but someone should restrain me just in case)

I'll look forward to participating next time. I had been hoping to submit some previous studio recordings because making new recordings isn't currently feasible. Totally fair rule, not complaining!

I'm still excited to watch the tournie and it sounds like a lot of fun. Good luck everyone! I'm coming for ya next time!

If your recording(s) meet the rest of the requirements (no serious mixing/guitar only/etc.), the judges may make an exception. PM me what you have and we'll let you know.

So, I started playing this recently on the PC.  It's actually kind of fun, but there are definitely a lot of people cheating, and that really shits up the game, a lot.  It can be super fun to make your way through rubble, crawling to a good vantage point with your sniper rifle.  Unfortunately, every 3rd lobby or so will have someone on the opposing team that can see you at all times, and will headshot you from across the map.   I've also been killed by a shotgun from 200 yards away.  Also common is unloading a full clip point blank on someone, who not only survives, but headshots you.

You would really dislike BFV, among the things the SP campaign has taught me about history, is that an 18 year old Norwegian girl and her mother prevented the Nazis from developing nukes, single handedly.

Interesting side note with the women avatars, I don't mind the game having them, but I find the death and wounded screams of the female characters very disconcerting.  I guess I'm not used to it?  The last time I found something disconcerting in a game like this was COD Ghosts, when dogs were killed (and they were a common ability in that game) they used what sounded to me like the actual sound a dog makes when shot or wounded.  Sadly, it's something I've heard in my life, and it was very accurate.

Shotgun from 200 yards? That's not hacking, that's Battlefield.  To be fair, modern shotguns do have ridiculously effective firing ranges (like 100 meters), but in a video game it's just too OP. Not too familiar with WWII shotguns, but I can't imagine they should be that accurate at range.

I'm surprised hacking is an issue though. DICE generally has that under wraps for the last few releases, maybe you're experiencing buggy netcode? Which DICE has been miserable at the last releases I played (BF3/4). Either way, that is frustrating.

Of all the things you mentioned in your post, the thing that bothers me the most (and puts me off the game) is the TTK. I hate unloading 15+ rounds into someone's center mass/limbs and then getting killed immediately by 1 or 2 shots because they got lucky and hit my neck/head with their random burst. Whether it's hacking, buggy netcode, or just long TTK, it really breaks the experience for me. This is why I only played BF3/4 hardcore, and have since moved to semi-realistic shooters like Rising Storm and WW3.

Well, it is. Facts are more important than opinions.

    Bait taken, great.

No, because Axl commandeered the rights to the name, does not make CD a GNR album. Guns N' Roses was a blues based, punk infused hard rock band. CD has very little of that. It's a pretty solid album, but it's not the music of Guns N' Roses. It's the music of Axl and a circus of talented musicians who shuffled in and out over a 10 year period.

  7. Welcome to the sequel to 2014's universally lauded and acclaimed Tone Contest (this will be the official shortened nomenclature for "MyGNR International Guitar Tone Shootout Super Championship Grand Prix Competition of 2018 Official Competition"). I'd like this thread to only be submissions, so if you have clarifying questions or concerns, either PM me or post in the thread ZoSoRose made.

    Rules & Regulations:

    - This time there will be three categories for submission: Clean | Crunch | High Gain

    - You can submit one, two, or three different recordings, but only one per category. Each category will be independently judged, but it will be possible for one participant to win multiple categories.

    - Tracks should preferably be recorded specifically for this competition. They should not be full band and/or mixed recordings, and I would suggest keeping them under 1 minute. Recording method is up to you, and while judges will try to parse recordings fairly, it helps to have a decent quality recording.

    - You can use effects (only in your instrument's signal chain when playing, not post-production in your DAW), but I would caution against using many effects like chorus, flanger, tremolo, etc.. While these effects can sound good, they tend overpower the instrument's natural tone.

    - Any mixing past changing volume levels and using a high pass or low cut filter is not allowed. Guitar tracks may be doubled, but not layered any further than that. However, you can record lead over rhythm, and that will not count as your doubled rhythm track. So to make this clear, the maximum amount of tracks you can have in your DAW is three: rhythm guitar one, rhythm guitar two, lead guitar.

    - Submissions can be done via whichever platform you prefer, but they must be web-hosted and publicly accessible (you can make a private link for the submission: Bandcamp, Dropbox, SoundCloud, etc.). Participants will post the link(s) in this thread to submit. If you record a video, please upload it to YouTube.

    - When you post your submission, make sure to note the gear used in the recording.

    - Submission Period: 11/30/18 - 12/14/18

    - Judges: Rovim, SoundOfAGun, WAR™, OmarBradley

    Good luck!

  8. Agree re: cartoonish look. Not the Borderlands, but I think the lighting wasn't done well to reflect the ambiance of a WWII setting. The textures and shading mostly look pretty good, but doesn't feel WWII. The beta maps actually had players working together a lot of the time to take points, haven't seen a lot of that reflected in the gameplay videos I've watched. Looks like a free for all just running and gunning. BF seems to be going slightly CoD as it's gotten more mainstream since BF3. :/

More worrisome than it not looking like WWII, is that it doesn't look/feel like Battlefield as much as it used to. I may still pick it up for cheap in a few months, but I have little desire to buy it now.

@Georgy Zhukov given your historical interests, I'd think you'd like Post Scriptum a lot.

  9. Slightly relevant to our conversation @Iron MikeyJ but Fallout 76 is getting absolutely obliterated by critics and consumers alike. Apparently it's an atrocious mess of bugs and has some content problems, especially at end-game levels.

I would posit this is really the exception to the standard though. For a AAA release, this level of disgust is rarely reflected in critics/community. Bethesda has always been a developer that seems to value content/story/etc. over technical adeptness, but it seems 76 is an extreme example, even for them. The good thing is they're really being called out on it by pretty much every source. Even the people who like the game for what it is agree it should not have been released in this state.

I would hope Bethesda can learn from this experience, as I'd much rather 76 be junk than Starfield or ES6.

I've been reading FO reddit to keep up with what's going on, and a user summed it up nicely:

    Quote

What happened the last time Bethesda stopped churning out our favorite big open world RPGs? They tried to mix it up with a multiplayer dungeon crawler, and a piratey Tomb Raider inspired action adventure game. They went nearly bankrupt and finally went all out and released Morrowind to critical and financial acclaim. They continued to churn out blockbusters, each one exponentially more successful than it's predecessor. Now, drunk with success, they're experimenting again, and the results are less than savory.

  10. Cool, let's do it. I'll organize/adjudicate again. We'll need some other judges too. If anyone wants to volunteer to be a judge, PM me or reply. Otherwise I'll reach out to some people.

Since we did this once before, getting it started shouldn't be too difficult. I should have some time to get the starting post up tomorrow or Monday.

    100%ed it.

Well, I'm at 99% because my game is glitched.

I became less and less of a fan of the game as I played through these additional missions, challenges, etc.

The game just regularly gets in your way of playing it and having fun.

For example, while hunting, I got a wanted level for Animal Cruelty for accidentally walking over a turkey. What the fuck.

Even besides that, there's just a handful of annoying little issues and flaws and questionable decisions.

That's so cool to read, but I'm sure its frustrating in game. I've heard similar comments about the game elsewhere: that its level of detail and immersion is very impressive, but people wonder if taking away gaming accessibility/ease of use is worth it. I'm still eager to play when a PC version comes out.

  12. Battlefield V has an 81% critic score and a 3.6/10 user score on metacritic. Well, that basically tells me all I need to know.

More seriously though, I played the beta and enjoyed it. But the gameplay videos I'm watching now are just not doing it for me. This will be the first Battlefield game since Bad Company 2 that I don't either pre-order or get immediately upon release. Don't want to lament about it too much, mostly wondering if anyone else here is playing and if so, how it's going?

In terms of other FPS games, I am playing World War 3 which is in early access, it's a modern Battlefield-style shooter. Promising game so far. I'm also interested in Squad and Post Scriptum, but haven't gotten either yet. I'm up for other recommendations too.
