  1. Tommy is cool to keep us informed on what he is up to. Nothing about working on a new GnR album in here, but that doesn't mean Axl and Co are not. I would think that if a new album is being worked on, most of the music is probably already done.

Here is his blog entry......My link

I've said it before, what the band members know that we don't is minimal. Bumblefoot has confirmed on several occasions that he usually finds out big news the same time we do. I'm sure Tommy and the rest are no different in that regard.

Keep in mind, these guys weren't even allowed anything other than a laptop to rehearse the songs from CD. Why should the next album and it's status be any less protected?

  2. What's inconceivable to me is that according to Merck, Axl only needed two days worth of work to finish Chinese Democracy in '06...but the inspiration to do it never came.

    We could be waiting awhile.

Merck's letter, while eye-opening, was nothing more than a backhanded way to get fans to think that Axl was crazy and he was blameless. Creativity isn't something you can force on someone just to meet a deadline, so I can't really blame Axl there...

I do agree that if this approach is taken again towards CD II we could still be waiting a good bit longer for it.

  3. Essex House is 2 blocks from Universal's HQ in New York.

    Beautiful hotel BTW

Mastering the second album? Negotiating the details for the release?

Both seem extremely likely given all the current buzz around this album. :)

Judging by the smile on Axl's face in those pictures, I'd say it's fuckin' on!

Hell yeah!! Summer, here we come!

  5. Axl told the audience back at the London 2002 show that he had "two new albums, ready to go."

The man is full of bs.

more like he is full of unpredictable bs

I'm starting to see a pattern of Axl "putting the cart before the horse" when it comes to telling the fans what they can expect. I.E. the multiple albums from the CD era, the Better video, writing for other videos, etc.

  6. Come on guys, lets get real for a second...

Do any of you really believe that the next album will be released this year or even next? I would love to be proven wrong but lets face facts, Axl has never cared much about being prolific. Yes, a swift follow-up to CD makes sense, yes it would be a great way to show that the new band means business... but when has Axl ever made logical decisions which would be in his best interests?

I'll give you that one. Tough to argue against with any evidence to the contrary.

  7. That interview suggests they won't be having a new album anytime soon.

Puzzling, since two months earlier during the Axl chats he seemed pretty psyched about the next album, even describing and naming what songs were going to be on it. Wonder why he changed his tune...

  8. "Depends on how you look at it"

Yeah.... the 2006/7 leaks were pretty finished to be launched in a album to me. But not to Axl.

Exactly, and what worries me is that this could delay the next disc from dropping this year, or anytime in the forseeable future, as it did with CD.

  9. I can't be arsed trawling through all the Axl chats, but I got the impression that the CDII stuff wasn't completed, nevermind a CDIII

Infact, I'm pretty sure MSL alluded to the very same too

edit - why would they be handed into Universal? I thought Interscope were in charge? Now that is confusing

He mentioned that they were having some trouble bringing "Atlas Shrugged" to a good enough mix. I get the impression that all the recording is done for the second disc but mixing and mastering may or may not still need to be done.

God knows Axl's had plenty of time to see to this during the down-time in 2009, so who knows where its at now.

  10. -CD was launched and they sold out huge stadiums. If that both things happend, nothing is impossible in the Guns N' Roses world anymore.

    you've got a point there

    +1

I like the way you think. Let's stick with the power of positive thinking folks. You never know what karma might bring us. ;)

  11. Did this guy mention anything about GNR having a song in the Iron Man movie?

Nope. Just that it was a self titled, single disc release.

it's probably just another best of album or something like that :shrugs:

    Hope not.

Like someone already pointed out, this bands been basically touring on Chinese Democracy since 2002. This needs to be a new album, not a re-release of CD or best of or whatever else, especially if they're planning on touring the states later this year.

  12. The ONLY reason I can believe this is Axl can't possibly think he's gonna tour Chinese Democracy again in the US. Yes the tour was a big success overseas but here people want hits and/or Slash. Still I'm waiting for a better source than some dude who just registered on these boards. Don't think for a second there aren't people bored enough to sign up on these boards to fuck with us for the sake of seeing GNR fans get hot and bothered.

Agreed. You'd have to think that a **successful** tour of the states would require something other than Chinese Democracy, which will be close to two years out by the time the tour starts, promoting it. The good thing is that CD is still new enough where putting out another album would definitely put GNR over the edge promotion-wise and make for a very successful U.S. tour.

So again, if the bands touring the U.S. in the late summer as Frank eluded, they should have the next album out by then to ride on.

  13. Summer?

    Are you sure?

Surely a holiday release date is more viable from an economic point of view?

If touring is the only promotion Axl is willing to do - releasing the disc while they are on tour makes the most sense.

It would be pretty cool if Reading and Leeds were the first shows after the release of the album.

Looks like this birdie is making his rounds JB. ;)

  14. I have also heard from someone recently that we'll be hearing something new "in the coming months." This person is in no way official, but he might have an inside idea on these sorts of things...

If this is the same person who told me, and I think it is, then I've also heard that we'll be hearing news about the forthcoming album very soon.

Can't come soon enough, that's for sure!

  15. For your sake as a poster on this board, I hope you are right. A lot of times I've seen people vilified on this board after posting information they believed to be correct, that has indeed turned out erroneous.

Ha! So, you're saying that I'm running the risk of being scrutinized by a complete group of strangers who I have zero obligation to should this not happen? Well, I've been in worst predicaments. In all seriousness, I'm not guaranteeing anyone anything. In fact, I wouldn't have even bothered posting what I heard hadn't it been for the fact that when I logged in this morning the "rumored album release date" thread was at the top of the page. Believe me, I know it sounds ridiculous. And even though I was told this by someone who I would consider a reputable source, I still have my own hesitations believing this.

If you were talking to someone who had an inside industry position and the person mentioned GNR releasing an album in "early summer" not knowing that you were even a GNR fan, wouldn't that kind of make you think?

TBH, I really didn't even care for Chinese Democracy. Thought it was disappointing overall. However I'm a HUGE fan of the original GNR lineup, and I mainly follow Axl these days out of curiosity more than anything else.

Did this guy mention anything about GNR having a song in the Iron Man movie?

Nope. Just that it was a self titled, single disc release.

I really, really hope your source is correct. I can't imagine a better way to start the summer than with the release of a new GNR album. rock3

  16. I also remember when someone came on the board and claimed a mid-November release was going to happen, and no one believed him. So it goes both ways.

I believe it was MSL who first delivered the November '08 news to us. I don't remember whether people believed him or not, but with Shackler's Revenge being put out it was pretty clear by then that something was happening. The only thing that worries me about the next album coming out soon is that we've heard zilch about it. No industry rumblings, no band members slipping up and mentioning it, nada. Now, that could very well be intentional to make it a surprise and avoid leaks, but it could mean that it's something that's not even on the horizon yet.

The fans seem to be talking about the next album more than ever, especially this week. Could be because the last leg of the tour just ended...Could also be because something's in the air. ;)

  17. 'The "birdie" told me that Universal received something like 30 tracks back in April 2008 from the Guns camp. Due to all the leaks, it was a no-brainer which songs would actually make the first album.'

    what-ever :D

The best of Chinse Democracy was released, as that's the best Axl & Co. had to offer. The album's not been a great success, so it makes no sense to release the tracks that didn't make the album.

If they're going to re-release it with extra tracks, why not just put it out as a double-album as Axl sees it any way with both albums (30 songs) under the "Chinese Democracy" banner. That's the only way a re-release would make sense to me.

  18. I will say that naming this album simply "Guns N' Roses" would be very Axl-like as it would serve as an F-You of sorts to those who don't believe his current band is really GNR.

And it will raise lots of expectations as well.

So it's not the best move unless you have a killer album on your hands.

I doubt it.. don't think anything will happen this year.

I'll be happy to buy some tickets to the show in Arnhem though :)

Even if the album is fantastic, and I'm sure it is, naming it 'Guns N' Roses' is absolutely bound to ruffle some feathers and will be pretty controversial. All the things that you think of when GNR comes up.
