  1. When did we first hear about CD in 2008? Was it october 22nd.. when they first released CD as a single?

Beta stated early-ish in the year that they were in negotiations with the label to release it, and when Shackler's Revenge was announced for RB2 in July, it became pretty clear that a release was imminent. I think it was officially announced in early October of that year...

  2. Okay Gang,

We know that from time to time Axl and co. read this forum. Let's hope the madison debacle didn't scare Axl away for good, and lets try to keep this thread going in hopes for an update on the next album, Chinese Democracy 2, or whatever it ends up being titled. Hopefully if he sees how much his fans are looking forward to hearing the rest of these tracks, "Dexter" will give us all the update we've all been waiting for.

Here's what we KNOW so far...

    * We know that Axl was eyeing a possible November 2009 release back when CD first dropped. (A lot has gone down since then, I know.)

    * We know that Axl was working on at least 32 tracks as of the Korn launch party in 2006. (Only 14 ended up on the album.)

    * We know the names of numerous possible tracks. (Many confirmed by Axl during his chats.)

    * We know Ron recorded on "a good handful" of tracks that did not end up on the album. (Other band members have confirmed this as well.)

Show your support for Axl releasing the next album here!

Axl, we loved Chinese Democracy and we're more than ready to hear the rest! Please give us an update.

Beta and Fernando, if it's cool with Axl, you both are welcome to comment on the status of the next album as well!

  3. Let me start by saying that I'd love to see the original band reunite, and Duff's rekindling his friendship with Axl is a HUGE step towards getting Axl in the same room as Slash.

However, this quote from Slash from the Eddie Trunk interview really bothered me "And so then the next one was that he was gonna be going on stage or something. And so he went and they did, like, I think it was five or six songs. So it was cool. And then the next day he told me it was great, everything was very cool, they went out and had dinner, and so they had that sort of, whatever, rekindling kind of thing. All things considered, the only thing I said about it was that... 'cause I know that they still ended up going on an hour late. And I was, like, 'Oooh.' That's the only part that would have left a bad taste in my mouth, supporting that."

I can totally see Axl reading that and thinking "Well, you wont ever have to worry about supporting that again if that's how you feel."

I think that, by now, it's part of who GNR and Axl is to go on an hour or however long late. Hell, they didn't go til almost 11:30 at the Toronto show I went to in January and my buddy and I didn't even bat an eye since that's what we were expecting. The fans still went ape shit when GNR came out, and I'm POSITIVE no one would bat an eye at having to wait for the original lineup.

All I'm saying is, Slash is going to have to meet Axl half way if we're ever going to see a reunion. If this is his biggest hangup...Well, I think he should get over it.

    What do you think?

  4. I dunno. I just think it'd be a waste of a perfectly good album *not* to release the songs that have been completed. Robin and Bucket's parts really shouldn't be rerecorded either, as their work on CD shows what amazing studio musicians they are and, again, would be a waste of their talent and contributions. That said, I agree with the OP and just really would love to hear this album as it is.

I'm praying for a March 2011 release.

  5. Chinese Democracy is dead.

Nah. Two topics create buzz in the forums more than anything else. Chinese Democracy 2, and reunion talk. Doesn't look like either's going out of style, especially the fact that your post just brought this thread to 3 pages already.

  6. Did I mention that I seriously can't wait to hear the rest of the "Chinese Democracy" era material? Because I really cant. B)

Edit: Why do I think Axl might just go for a double album re-release idea like this? "I will say that I've always thought of it as a double album." -Axl Rose, December 2008.

Who's to say he's not currently planning on re-releasing it exactly the way he pictured it, artwork and all? Would make sense to me.

  7. The best way to do it is with Slash, Izzy, Duff and Steven.

    Yawn.

You know, I love the original lineup. But comments like this are just so pointless in threads that have zero to do with the old lineup or a reunion. Feel better now?

  8. I see where you're coming from, but it would flop. Only a few diehard fans would buy it.

How is the average fan supposed to know there's a whole new album on it? It would quickly be dismissed as Chinese Democracy was, even if they "find out" there's a new album there. Let alone, it would get bashed in the critic reviews for "hiding" material under the same album name.

In other words, I don't think it's too good an idea.

The recent re-release of The Rolling Stones' "Exile On Main Street" featured a second disc, complete with several unheard tracks from the 'Exile' sessions. It was huge, and sold extremely well.

While I know it's a little soon to compare CD to Exile, it could be done and marketed very similarly, showing similar results.

With propper marketing, singles, and videos make no mistake, this could be huge...

'Exile On Main Street' wasn't a commercial flop that was only released less than 2 years ago.

Actually, Exile *was* a commercial flop when it was first released, compared to earlier Stones efforts. It was only years later that it started gaining mystique due to it's dirty/raw sound that defines that album.

  9. It could be marketed as "Chinese Democracy - The Ultimate Edition" or "Chinese Democracy - The Complete Set".

It would probably attract a lot of derision and look like a cash grab. I don't know if "Chinese Democracy, the edition with more songs" would exactly fly off the shelves either.

But it wouldn't be a cash grab. It's a real way of getting this music into the hands of the fans. If that's what Axl wants to do, why should he give a shit how it looks if it makes good business sense and makes his fans happy?

  11. I know, I know. It's another CD2 thread. Well what the hell else are we going to talk about?

ANYWAY...I've been thinking about what would be the best and most economical way for Axl to put out the next "Chinese Democracy" album. Ron and the others seem to be not too keen on releasing another album that they're simply featured on, rather than one they wrote and comes from their hearts. As much as I can't wait to hear CD2, I honestly get where they're coming from.

However, I think it would literally be a sin to keep these songs locked up just for the sake of putting out a "fresher" album. So how do they do it, while keeping the door open to another upcoming album? Simple. Re-release Chinese Democracy as a double album, complete with a remix or two, and whatever other tracks were slated for the next CD era album. Not to mention, this would be a perfect opportunity for the band to incorporate the artwork and corrected lyrics that were intended for the initial release.

It could be marketed as "Chinese Democracy - The Ultimate Edition" or "Chinese Democracy - The Complete Set". This is, in my opinion, the best way to put out whatever else is finished, or has been remixed, from the Chinese Democray era.

If marketed correctly, with a killer new single or two, this could be a new beginning for Chinese Democracy, and would recharge and save the legacy it most definitely deserves.

Axl, if you're still browsing the forums, ya gotta admit...This would be pretty freaking cool!

  12. Nah, I still want to hear the existing album with with The General, Atlas, Soul Monster etc...

Why? Well, first, the music's probably way better than anything the current lineup could write. Secondly, a more "hard rock" approach would not make this band any more Guns N' Roses.
