I love how slash looks so happy to be there whereas Axl looks like he just woke up.

whether this is for new music or just tour mixing, it’s interesting to see slash so involved with the process. A lot of people think he became “just an employee” when he rejoined in 2015, but I don’t think that’s necessarily the case.

People want to believe what they want even though facts can get away from it. As Blackstar and I pointed out a few years ago, there was a filing in California, which  stated that Axl, Slash, and Duff are partners. The filing was signed in 2017.

Same thats where my unconditional love/support kicks in (ty M)

way i see that ,  ive spent my whole childhood with this band. Especially Axl.  Nothing will change regardless of any he said/she said.

At the end of the day you just want them happy, the way they make us.

    Moving on! :)

To me it makes no difference! Axl will always be my childhood idol!!

Just to clarify, they were separate rumours, not that they were together or anything. I think it was around 2006-07 (but could've been 2010) there were a lot of rumours about Axl when he was hanging out in NYC.

Manson blew Robin on stage, and yea Adler has been pretty open about some of the things he did for dope in the 80s...

Ah ok. When you said it, I thought you meant that there was a rumor of Axl and Pittman.

I had read that Axl partied at a gay club in London around 2010. There is a possibility that he could have been bi. Also, it's no secret that his role models are Elton John and Freddie Mercury. So who knows.

First I've heard that stuff about Ashba, but did you guys really not remember the rumours about Axl and Pitman? And I'm sure most have heard the story about Robin and Marilyn Manson? And what Steven used to do for drugs... fuck it's not exactly shocking that there's some gay/bi/whatever history in this band

There were rumors about Axl and Pitman?! Really?!  I have never heard about Robin and Manson. It makes though. Adler was said to have been bi.

I just came across two quotes from Tommy from 2017, talking about the unreleased music:

Tommy: There’s some stuff with lyrics, some without. We did a lot of stuff that was supposed to be on Chinese Democracy – the record was meant to be more than one disc, but after spending so much time on it we just had to put an end to it. There’s also stuff that was held over from [the original lineup] before they all disbanded, so there’s some stuff that should someday see the light of day. [Rolling Stone, January 27, 2017]

Tommy: Well we recorded a lot of stuff. We recorded a shit ton of music. Whether it ever sees the light of day I couldn’t even guess, but we recorded a lot of stuff with the intent that it would be kinda staggered out, I think, you know to keep it rolling in a way. I’m not sure if it was Jimmy Iovine’s fuck up or someone’s fuck up that, you know, made a lot of that just…shut Axl down is what it did, but I’m not really sure where that stuff’s going to end up or what it’s gonna be. Who knows if it’ll be anything ever, you know? [Hard Rock Heaven, February 14, 2017]

    Some interesting bits:

    * Seems like Axl already from before Tommy left the band in 2017 may have changed his plan to now release the unreleased music in a staggered fashion.

    * Jimmy Iovine may have affected Axl to change his plans

    * And he confirms that music exists from the UYI lineup, or the lineups immediately after the UYI touring (so likely including Paul)

These quotes, together with all other quotes I have collected in interviews up to February 2017 about the unreleased music, are found in this chapter: (32) 28. AUGUST 2008-FEBRUARY 2009: CHINESE DEMOCRACY IS RELEASED - Page 2 (a-4-d.com)

I think this confirms as to what Matt Sorum was saying that they had 7 complete songs and 7 songs they were working on at the time.

  6. Since Oklahoma was brought up in this thread, I have a question. Wasn't the song  created as a result of the Oklahoma City bombings that occurred in 1995? If so, a LOT has happened since then. I'm wondering if Axl would rerecord the lyrics if it's about that if they release the song. A lot of people may have forgotten about that. I definitely know that a lot of people have forgotten about 9/11 and I live in NJ where we had residents pass away that day.  A lot of younger folks don't even  know about 9/11 or cannot understand the magnitude of that day.  I do wonder.

That's a big regret for me too... I think he played acoustic shows in my city twice but I went to other shows instead, thinking I'd have many more opportunities to see him...

A close friend of mine had tickets to go see Cornell at the Bergen Performing Arts Center here in NJ. He asked me to go with him. I didn't want to use up a vacation day for work so I said no. At the time, I was thinking there would be another chance to see Cornell when I had more vacation days. Unfortunately, that didn't work out.

I do understand "the other side".  And I do wish I was as excited as I was right after the reunion... but I also remember the feeling of maybe never getting another chance.

I find myself going to far more shows at this stage of my life (just recently turned 51) than I did in my late teens/20s.

I can afford the higher price of the tickets more easily and just know how much I missed and will never have a chance to see live.   Regret, it's a terrible thing.

I agree with you. I regret not seeing Prince, Ozzy, Chris Cornell solo (did see SoundGarden when they opened for GNR), Michael Jackson, and Whitney Houston. You don't know what will happen in your life nor theirs.  One day GNR may not tour. Heck, Metallica may not tour after next year.

wouldn't have to worry nearly as much about the Robin and Bucket material suffering from NITL studio sessions.

This was the part I was referring to.

My opinion is the CD-era CD2 and whatever they finished of CD3 is probably better than what that material will become with the current lineup, but I'd love to be proven wrong. Absurd and Hard Skool didn't support that, once again, in my opinion. Some prefer those versions to the Village mixes, which is fair enough as music is music, though I find the mixing and mastering to be poor, but perhaps that was an artistic choice and not due to other factors.

This is your opinion. It's not mine. That's why I said don't use we.

Several years ago, Axl allegedly told Baz that The General was going to be on the third album, which will come in in 2012 due to where it fit into the CD trilogy lyrically.

What a wonderful fantasy that would have been, along with the remix album and bonus songs.

I assume the reunion would have happened after that time, much as it had, and at least by then, we would of had more tunes to enjoy, and wouldn't have to worry nearly as much about the Robin and Bucket material suffering from NITL studio sessions.

Please speak for yourself and not say we. I don't share the same sentiment as you do.

Not many acts have maintained their credibility in the long run. Only a handful.

Stones, AC/DC, Springsteen, Lepard to name a small few.

I have to disagree with you on Springsteen. He forgot that he was a Jersey guy with blue collared roots. He knew about TicketMaster dynamic pricing and didn't care. In fact, he even stated that others are charging a lot of money so he should as well.

Ironically Axl doing a cameo at a talented musician's show and dueting is more '90s Axl than the shut-in Axl of the nuGNR era ever was.  It has been nice seeing him get out and do these things again like he did back in the day (Tom Petty dueting, showing up at a U2 concert, etc) in the form of cameos such as with Carrie or with Billy Joel

Carrie is a decent singer and while not my genre of music, has some decent tunes.  And she is a legit fan of hard rock and always has snuck some GNR into her setlists - I don't see the issue here persay and especially with his comments about Slash which seemed much more about being a scorned lover (musically speaking) than artistic integrity - I am glad he has matured away from that

I agree. Aside from no rants, this seems more like classic Axl. Since 2016, he's been  out and about dueting with Billie Joel, Pink, Carrie Underwood, and performing with AC/DC. He was also much more interacting with the crowd during the 2021 MetLife show. This is more like Axl Rose.

    Hey Hey!

    My My!!

Rock n Roll can never die….

I listened to The Pistols, Motörhead and GnR when I was 12, I still listen at 44. It’s more than just a young persons energy. It’s a way of life. You never grow out of what you really love, you only fall in deeper.

Perfectly said! I like other music, but hard rock will always be my favorite.

  14. As much as I have liked this reunion, there are a couple of things that have bothered me a bit. I would love to see Axl, Slash and Duff sit for an interview. This hasn't happened, yet for the three of them. I do agree that back in the day, it was mostly Slash and Duff doing the talking with Axl doing some interviews The second thing is that I thought more new music would have occurred by  now. That hasn't happened either.  The third thing is that I'm hoping that Axl continues to interact more with the audience. I loved the Axl rants when I attended the shows in the 90s. Hammerstein and Izod shows were not that much. 2016 and 2017 shows were non existent with interaction. The 2021 show had seemed like Axl was more interactive and happy.

For sure they “run” things. Ni argument there.

That said anyone and everyone is free to come up with a new online ticket platform to try and cut into that monopoly.

There are barriers of entry when creating a business. One of which is that Ticketmaster has contracts with the venues. There are others like marketing. It's not that easy.

I'm skipping this tour.  The price of GA for Metlife is insulting.  $453 after the TM fees.  No thanks. Funny part is I can afford these tickets, but I can't continue to encourage this nonsense of the same setlist, subpar vocals and half the set being cover songs. I've only willingly skipped GNR once in my life.  The Brooklyn Bowl show and it turned out Axl was sick anyways and ended the show early.  But for me not to buy a GA seat at face value when it was available is saying something.  I'm sure I'm not the only hardcore fan looking at these prices and passing.  Until they promise an updated setlist, bring Izzy and/or Steven on tour or get an insane opening act I'm staying on the sidelines for this one.

I so fucking agree - sad what the industry has come to. I remember when GNR played MSG in 2017 (?). They were doing four or five nights. I live in NJ and could have easily made it there. But I went to zero because anything decent was $300-$400. Now, I've reserved myself to a shitty nosebleed day of for my one of my favorite bands. And honestly, I could afford some of this, but it's really just principle. That is just so goddamn much.

And I get there are costs to cover and that's hard with inflation, gas prices, and covid insurance. But still, it's deflating.

Respectfully, I have to disagree with both statements. The most I paid for a GNR show at MetLife since 2016 was $180 with fees. MSG was roughly $150. The August 5, 2021 show I paid $130 with fees. All seats were good at MetLife.  For the show that is coming up at MetLife, there are tickets for $100 plus fees which would be $130-$140.  I disagree that all good seats costs $300-$400.
