It has to make financial sense at the end of the day. If one show is a good distance from the next the overheads are going to decide it. Limited capacity and several dates postponed, I'd say the likelihood of anything happening are slim. They'll almost certainly be the first major band back on the road though.

And that might be the reason GNR does a limited number of shows. If GNR did any tour of stadiums this year, even if it was limited to say 6 shows, would sale out and bring a lot of attention to GNR. If GNR marketed it correctly it would get a lot of press. The whole world would be watching.

This doesn’t bode well for the tour as a whole. Target Field is an outdoor show, and the second of the tour.

The optimist in me hopes that they’re waiting to make an announcement in hopes that they can salvage some of the August dates, but the realist continues to think 2022 is most likely.

I imagine the whole industry is hoping the band can salvage some July and August dates. But, this is not welcome news. It will only take one Stadium/venue to scare others into folding this year entirely.

Well sounds like the Minneapolis show is fucked til 2022.  “Target Field representatives confirmed the Guns N' Roses and Green Day concerts will roll over to 2022. Expect the same for Def Leppard at U.S. Bank Stadium. Even fall arena gigs by Harry Styles and the Eagles seem iffy.”.  - https://m.startribune.com/minnesota-concert-scene-is-still-rocky-as-another-quiet-summer-approaches/600050773/

Thank you for this info. That’s not a good sign at all. Even fall concerts are iffy. Well damn.

There will be 60,000 fans in AT&T Stadium in Texas next weekend for Canelo v Billy Jo Saunders

It’s so odd GNR cancelled the Dallas show.

Thank you for the clarification. This show I'm going to would be Wrigley Field, so I am sure they probably use a similar policy. But who knows. I'll check out the fine print.

I’m aiming for that show as well. Wrigley staff told me they return to Wrigley June 1st or July 1st at the latest. Currently 25% capacity for baseball games.

Ditch everything recorded by the pre-2016 line-up. If it would've been good, it would've been released. No excuses.

Start fresh, write 15 songs, narrow it down to 10, record and release.

Shouldn't be too hard for professional musicians. It wouldn't even cost much, if they'd have the songs written and arranged before going to studio.

But they are creatively bankrupt as a band, so nothing is going to happen.

This is unfortunately true. Duff, Slash and even Ashba said Axl has all kinds of great material that they have heard, but as time wears on it feels like bullshit.

  6. Everybody knows about the great rock songwriters prior to 1980 and I know there are many knowledgeable forums members here on MYGNR. So who is your top ten list since 1980 and I’m strictly speaking songwriter. Not who is a great Frontman or great voice or presence.

Ah nice! I'm not a huge Crue fan other than the greatest hits, but I really like that album. In fact, I quite often like those 'black sheep of the family' albums. Huge fan of Deep Purple's Come Taste The Band and RHCP's One Hot Minute albums for example. I guess there will be some people who prefer Chinese Democracy over every other GNR album? Possibly even somebody who doesn't like the original era of the band, but loves CD? These people clearly should be sectioned, but I'm sure they will exist! :P

I wonder if there people who are only fans of Chinese Democracy.

It would be disingenuous to say it didn't satisfy Axl who largely financed the record? Ha! He toured it extensively and talked as recently as 2016 about his love for it and how happy he was with the music. I think that's a fact. The album didn't sell as well as AFD or have the same impact... I mean, no shit! Who in their right mind would have had that expectation? Crazy. It's a good record, with good songs. It doesn't have to "Bury appetite" to live up to that. It's sales were underwhelming, but still far from a flop. Fact.

He needed them. Yes true. They also needed him, and without his stage presence and voice that band would have not gone anywhere (not opinion fact). From that point he was the most valuable member... but they were all important, why you're trying to pitch one against the other is confusing tbh.

He released one record without them. Nobody is defending that, he should have had minimum 2 albums released but he didn't. That doesn't mean he wasn't talented it just means he was either not confident in his ability or he was searching for a certain sound and approach that was exciting to him that was different. I can't say either thing as fact, but you also can't disprove it... There are also numerous musicians and producers who have all said the same thing about him "very talented... incredible" etc. no reason to lie or kiss as either.

Axl is wildy talented. Being prolific means nothing when you have achieved what Axl and the others achieved.

Interesting. I’ve always wondered how much Axl pays his staff like Richard. What do you all think? To be on contract with GnR and obviously they would stipulate that GnR is the priority with any side-interests not to conflict with plans, how much for a hired muso to take that gig?

I would have a guess around $100 00 - $150 000 per year with all expenses paid touring.

    What do you all reckon?

At least 150k. Maybe 250k tops.

I would have to disagree. Axl's voice and his singing, especially in his prime, was fabulous. I am not just talking about his extreme range and ability to sing in different voices which made it a very versatile tool for different kinds of music, but especially his ability to add emotions to his singing which so nicely complemented Slash. You felt Axl meant every fucking word he sang. Or at least I did. I would also say he is a talented song writer, with songs like Estranged and November Rain. Lastly, I think he was a unusually gifted frontman, at least back in the 80s and 90s. A lot of this came from being so sincere, unpredictable and unfettered his performances. Axl on stage in the 80s was a whirlwind of emotions and incredible mesmerizing. Of course, a lot of this is subjective and it is entirely okay to disagree.

I don't think anyone would claim Axl is a prolific musicians in terms of his output  But I also think that "talented" goes beyond just being good at releasing music.

I agree with all your points. Saying Axl isn’t talented is silly.

Too bad GNR have no manager to give fans an update on the outlook for the NA tour. Would really come in handy.

It would be nice to be provided with any details about live performances this summer, but I think everything is up in the air and nobody really knows. Isn’t GNR the only huge act to even have live dates for this summer?

Can you imagine though what would happen the first time Paradise City wasn't the last song played?  I'm sure there's more than just me that like to skate out while the last song is in progress to beat the traffic (1 minute vs 60+ to get out).   It would be a mega bummer to miss the majority of the show.

I’ve been forced to leave GNR early in 2006 at MSG because I had to catch the train back home and sucked to miss the part of the concert.

Slightly off topic, but I just had an interesting observation regarding live shows and wasn’t sure where else to mention this:

at recent shows, Axl seems to sing HIGHER than he’s supposed to, instead of lower (which is what happens to most singers when they age). So, rather than tuning DOWN like most bands eventually do, maybe GnR should tune UP to standard. It’d be interesting to see if they’d be willing to try that on a future tour.

The only thing is like Axl to do is get in shape and get a better wig. To have that much cash and have that hair is silly.
