I saw the nerd signal go up.
The number of unique songs they have played since the start of 2016 is....*drumroll*... 52.
Thanks for this. -

Fuck no, I refuse to use emojis so those were laughing exclamation marks. Sorry if I inferred differently.
As for GNRs Setlists….
I wonder what the count of songs played since 2016 is… They did bring back in some songs they hadn’t played since the old days, they’ve done some covers, the new songs.
They’ve probably played 35-40 different songs? (Someone here knows this?)For me it’s the formulaic approach to the set. I get the opener and closer being the same each night, but it’s been a lot of the same set in the same order with the same covers night after night.

I was talking about Metallica!!

But I have asked? I’ve been told by numerous friends, family members who experienced the 80’s. So they’re all lying? Also YouTube is a great source of history with videos from the last 10 decades(ish) that’s all lies too?
I can comment and I will comment. If you don’t like what I said you don’t need to reply
Ok my friend, continue to tell us about a time you didn’t live through and some of us did. I’m sure you know more than us that were there…..I’m telling you there was a lot of backlash to them in the 80s. Much as they were loved, there were also questions of misogyny, racism & homophobia. If you want to rewrite history for a decade you didn’t live through, off your go.

Born in 1990 my friend, just missed out 😂
Well then you can’t comment. Dont explain to someone who was there what things were like “back then” You can ask what they were like instead.

It was a different world back then… and they (the band) were completely different people back then. I completely agree they got their fare share of criticism back then and backlash over OIAM and rightfully so, lyrically it’s completely unacceptable. What I’m saying is 30+ years later they still gotta be an easy target for a new age “woke” crowd? I also never insinuated people were apes back then, just want to make that clear 😅
Were you around back in the late 80s?

An attack on them is unfair, just because of lyrics from 30+ years ago, Axl’s antics in the past, their drug use decades ago. It was a different world then, times change and people change. We know they’re not bad people, and some woke fucks want to as Karice would say, “rag and drag” on crap they actually know nothing about because they’d never give this band a chance in the first place.
You can chose to believe this.
“It was a different world then” But its not true…. plenty challenged lots of GNRs behaviour back in the day when the “woke” buzzword wasn’t around. 1989 they were getting shit for OIAM. The misogyny was obvious back then. Don’t look into the past and think everyone was apes back then. I love GnRs music, but they’ve always been at the groupie fucking end of rock. Pussy full of maggots doesn’t offend me, I don’t care, but it’s what’s been written recently, not lyrics from 30 years ago. What you see in a what you get with GnR. Take it or leave it. It’s always been that way. -

Yes, the changing setlist is the reason people flock to Metallica shows
They do shake up their set most nights though.

You really think that? To each their own I guess. I do like Nirvana but GNR is way better imo.

https://www.nme.com/news/music/glastonbury-festival-announces-2023-line-up-3407608Just read this on the NME…..
”Acknowledging this year’s all-male bill-toppers, Eavis attributed the lack of viable female headliners to an industry “pipeline” problem in an interview with the Guardian.
She explained that Guns N’ Roses were booked after a previously-confirmed female headliner cancelled because she “changed her touring plans”. While she didn’t disclose the act’s name, Eavis said she hoped to secure them within the next five years”

they are playing this summer
in the round 2 DATES
thats a capacity of over 80k per show/date
and both dates are around 70-75% sold.
look at how gnr date is selling.
I can get a 2 day Metallica ticket for $90. No wonder they’re selling better

Has there been any word as to who’s in the “legends” slot this year?
EDIT: I just read it’s Cat Stevens.
-
Not making any excuses for the sales but I don’t think tickets will ever “sell” the way they did in the past. It’s a different world now than it was even 10 years ago. Back in the day you went to the local record store when it was open and bought your ticket. You hadn’t the luxury of picking a specific ticket or checking availability to see if they would sell out or not. Now you can watch the sales and buy a ticket at 9pm an hour before the gig starts. If I was in my teens, GnR is a ticket I’d buy the day before, why waste the cash in the meantime when I could be seeing 10 bands for $150 between now and then and I have the convenience of buying it from home.

To tell you the truth I generally don't listen to music like hard rock anymore; it's really music for the young generation that is growing up & has a lot of energy & needs music like this to go wild/crazy & rock out. Perfectly understandable if one asks me. I have for the most past grown out of it & it doesn't appeal to me anymore.
Hey Hey!My My!!
Rock n Roll can never die….
I listened to The Pistols, Motörhead and GnR when I was 12, I still listen at 44. It’s more than just a young persons energy. It’s a way of life. You never grow out of what you really love, you only fall in deeper.

I never listened to I Feel Good before and its one of those songs that feels like it shouldn't work but somehow does. I feel like it mostly just confuses the audience not expecting the band to cover James Brown.
Honestly on the night it felt a little like the old GnR of the 90s. A bit of risk and a bit of fun, something that made that night unique for the people there. It was a very GnR move in way.

Axl's vocals these past few years are the only reason I'm not bothered about seeing them live again. Obviously, the setlist needs a refresh but that is not the biggest issue.
You saw the last real GNR gig in 91, if I recall correctly. I saw peak Axl in 92.
I think that makes it harder to listen to him now than if we had gotten into them in the last 20 years.
I accept Axl’s vocals are shitty for lots of reasons, I get it, but what’s keeping me away is Frank. I can’t even enjoy the music the way it was and could be played. The mix of Axl’s vocals and Franks Drumming is why I’m not bothered.

I've never really liked their BHS cover. I Feel Good, Wichita Lineman and The Seeker were way better at the last Vancouver show.
Yeah I was a bit vague, the I Feel Good cover is the tune I should have said meant. I too never liked the BHS cover… The Seeker, meh, it was a who tune I tolerated more than liked.

Not sure if you know them but Paul Heaten and Jacqui Abbott of The Beautiful South did an Arena tour in the UK where every ticket was £30.
I saw them talking about it on a TV show and he said that really, with those prices, they were making more than enough money and that he was opposed to greed and hoped more artists would do the same.
Not my cup of tea musically, but if he's saying he's making more than enough money out of £30 Arena tickets.....imagine the levels of greed that must be going on, even when you factor in more expansive stage sets etc.
Despite being a committed rocker back then, The Beautiful South were always acceptable to me, very clever songs…. I saw them live somewhere in the early 90s and they were killer.

I wish I could also forget their cover of Black Hole Sun...
I forgot that one….
I think we bought caught a pretty cool cover in Vancouver last time round. I would love to hear a studio cut of that tune. -

That’s your opinion. I had more than 20 likes these last two days on my posts, so I don’t think I’m the only one who is getting tired of the endless repetition from the same few posters nor am I the only who has spoken out against it. But I guess since the moderators here are fine with it, I guess I will go back to posting only at the non-GnR subforums like I’ve done for the most part this last year because this place is no fun anymore. Kudos to you on the moderating.

Ain’t It Fun & Human Being are probably my favourites.
Regardless of the songs they covered, I can’t think of one that was completely shit. They’ve all been pretty decent.

Things wouldn’t seem as stale if they rotated some songs in and out, with 52 tunes played over the last 6 years there’s enough there to do that, for most acts out there that’s 3 nights sets.
