  1. Called it, just another show. I also called the bitching too but this is on another level, why the hell did anyone expect more? You only have yourselves to blame, anyone disappointed is just a mug at this point.

Looking forward to hearing the soundboard though!

But i understood that he records it with external mic, not as good as directly from the source

No he'll rip the audio from the source and upload it once it's finished. Sorry I didn't realise you meant live, yeah you're right about that, he can't stream directly from the feed.

yep. smoking guns is right. this is just axl being himself. showing angus his love for ac/dc as cleraly he would like to continue ac/dc thing.

angus should retire ac/dc. they truly are way past their prime, just recycling.

No fucking way. Axl/DC is the greatest.

I'm not so sure. I thought even Angus failed to bring out his A game this time.

When I say taking it easy, I mean in general, as in not warming up and making sure his rasp is on point consistently for every show like he did for AC/DC. When you sing the way Axl does, In order to get that sharp sound, you have to warm up correctly for at least 45 minutes in order to get a consistent glottal compression. He's obviously not doing that anymore. But it's understandable, I mean the tour already has rave reviews and he's already blown away expectations through his AC/DC performances last year. Plus, any live release they're planning on putting out has probably already been recorded so he's most likely just enjoying the rest of the tour without the pressure of having to maintain an intense work ethic between shows.

That was the one new song which sounded great in my opinion at Rio 3, 'Madagascar'. It sounds terrible on the record.

Can't believe I'm even saying this but I actually preferred the way the Ashba/Bumble line-up played it. Especially the last times it was played on the '11-'12 tour. They had a cool intro that sounded really Zeppelin and Axl was always great.

    This is a good example.

The mix is pretty uneven but the performance has a lot of soul.

(Don't mean to derail the thread but just thought I'd share this particular performance in case you hadn't seen it).

So, let's do as asked and avoid clogging the show threads with discussion, and discuss Axl's voice freely.

Here's what I have to say: Axl has sounded consistently bad on this leg, and increasingly worse since 2016. He always got better this many shows into it, it's not happening this time. On every show now I can see him fail to get that bit of rasp and right tone at parts where he used to, even when not on his best nights, such as bits of Jungle, "while your breaking down my neck" on YCBM, "Tongue like a razor" in RQ, "To break the charms" on Better, most of My Michelle etc etc. The tone on his clean voice has got a lot worse, and mickey is fully back. I've been watching and listening to stuff from 2011-2013 lately and he is better on those than he is currently.

Now, there might be a measure of preservation in there, but it would make zero sense for him to take the level of performances down a notch, after what he consistently did last year, which was already a contained effort when compared with Axl/DC. Also, choice wouldn't explain the lack of rasp on parts where it had been present even after 2011.

I think Axl's voice might be on it's last legs. Maybe we are seeing the last of his banshee, high note hitting sing voice, with or without rasp. What we call rasp is being used less and less, and, imo, this leg has many clear moments when it seems Axl wants to use it but it's just not there. I wouldn't be surprised if him not releasing material that is already recorded has to do with the voice on that material being gone. Maybe we should just cherish whatever is left.

Lack of warming up before shows due to not caring as much this far into the tour. Nothing to do with his voice being on its last legs at all, if it was it would be a gradual decline but it's sudden between legs. Choice doesn't mean choosing to sing that way, it means choosing to not prepare correctly and maintain a level of excellence that he did last year and for AC/DC due to complacency. What is it with people on this forum and their dramatic conclusions and failure to even begin to comprehend the psychology of actually being on tour for nearly two years and playing the same show over and over? It's just a job. Do you work as hard as you did now compared to the first 6 months or so of your employment?

Axl is lazy and concert goers love his performance even when he's not 100% so why should he bother preparing properly for every show if he can get away with it? (I wish he would btw) but none of this means he's "on his last legs."

  7. Terrible show. One of the worst performances of Axl's career and the band was sloppy as fuck. Weird, cringey rants by Axl blaming everyone but himself for what happened to GN'R and he just comes across as a tool. The only thing slightly impressive about that show is the drumming.

Even the new songs they played were awful back then. Oh My God was a mess, Madagascar sounded terrible and Silkworms? What the fuck even is that? It just sounds like someone dropping a toaster in the bath. Chinese Democracy sounded cool with Finck's intro tone but that's about it.

    3/10.

  8. Probably just all the alt. songs that they rotate regularly all played. So; Out ta Get Me and My Michelle, Used to Love Her and Yesterdays, BHS and WLR and possibly Sorry and TWAT. Maybe Catcher and or Prostitue too but I wouldn't get my hopes up too much for anything "new" being played other than Prostitute. Even that is slightly less than 50:50.

I agree it's the next logical step... but GnR and Logic, in the same sentence...

I also worry when people say "the next few years". Axl struggles now, he's in his mid fifties and whether he likes it or not, that range of his is gonna decline. Once the tour ends, it's time to get in and knock out a record in no less than a year. A new record in late 2018 is very doable and logical (it would also be 10 years since CD was released).

Fingers crossed, we all want it to happen... but it's hard to be optimistic about new music when it comes to GNR. I will say that, the next GNR that features Slash, Duff and Axl will have a much stronger backing from the label, done right they could easily have a new album as successful as Hardwired, and given that GnR have even more fare-weather fans (And are generally more accessible) it's easy to imagine them topping those sales figures.

Age is not a factor at all when it comes to Axl Rose's ability. It's a matter of him being inspired enough to apply himself.

The problem with any extended break is that Axl ain't getting any younger.  I mean even a 1-2 year break then they return and Axl is what- pushing 60 in 2-3 years right.   Sucks but it's true.  Although 69 year old Hagar still kicking ass.

No. Axl is 55, even in 2-3 years he's still not 60, and judging by his unbelievable performance with AC/DC he still has a hell of a lot left and is nowhere near close to being done as a singer.

  11. Lol, the Trump piñata thing is popular in Mexico, Guns were just joining in. Who even cares? Mexicans have a right to be pissed off and Guns have the right to agree with them, it's only a bit of fun, Jesus.

Also, I think the criticism is resurfacing on their Facebook page because they're celebrating the 4th of July and Trump supporters probably see that as hypocritical given the band's outspoken views on the President. That's my guess anyway.

  12. Better was one of my favourite performances of the entire show when I went to see them, it's great live. It's got everything a good rock song should have. Also, it's incredible when Axl belts out the bridge, he's consistently nailing it during this tour. Great song and great performances, including Slash, the second solo that he plays is one of the best changes that he's made to the Chinese Democracy material (not that it needed changing) imo.

  13. Angus could get Axl to knockout vocal recording in a couple of weeks no problem. I also think he'd be more than willing to contribute lyrics in a timely fashion.

With how smoothly Guns is going I doubt there'd be any creative disputes so drastic that they would derail the band in any way whatsoever. Even if Axl was 100% in charge of the direction Slash and Duff would probably be fine with that at this point.

After this tour is over a new album is the next logical step. Even with the disappointing history taken into account I still think a new GN'R album with this line-up is inevitable within the next couple of years. It feels like it's gonna happen.

This is based on nothing other than me wanting it to be the case obviously, but with how much Guns N' Roses have changed over the past 18 months I see no reason to doubt it.

i mean, what is considered true metal from the 80s? what i mean is that a casual fan would consider a band metal, whereas a big fan wouldnt say theyre metal.

By the '80s the difference was pretty obvious actually now I think about it. I mean, you had Ozzy, Dio, Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax. Bands like Venom, Death and even Meshuggah I think were formed in the '80s. So if you compare these bands sound (although different to each other) it's pretty distinct from the hard rock of the time of bands like Van Halen and Mötley Crüe. Mainstream music outlets just automatically assume that distorted guitars and shouty vocals = metal. When it's more to do with the song structure and subject matter if anything.
