  1. Ken Tamplin is brilliant, probably the best vocal coach (for rock anyways) But he thinks he's a bit of a knowitall. I disagreed with an anti vaccine comment he made and he tried to argue the whole "Governement is pumping us all full of chemicals" nonsense and when I replied he deleted my comments and me haha.

He's also a devout Christian and only eats "natural" food etc. Lots of weird quirks that raise little red flags when attempting to take him seriously.

So other than just wanting to inform people of this it may or may not good reason to question the accuracy of his take on Axl's vocals.

I personally think it's because Axl is one of the only singers you can't replicate using his method.

That's the one that made me cringe when I was watching. I agree- never heard Axl get that far off...

God that was horrendous. He must have just had an off night. I take back all the different options, it seems he just couldn't get it going. It happens, we all have off nights. I'm sure he more than anyone knows it was a bad performance and I'm sure he'll make sure it doesn't happen again. Hopefully he doesn't act like UYI Axl on the Guns tour and have a multitude of vocal problems and start not showing up/cancelling etc.

The problem is that when you have a delay that is so long, with so many rumours swirling around, no matter what music the band puts out it is almost guaranteed to fail to live up to the hype. Add in the fact that Axl alienated a lot of people by effectively pretending that Slash, Izzy and Steve/Matt didn't exist and that the new line up wasn't just Guns N' Roses in name but actually Guns N' Roses, and virtually nothing that the band did, said or released was going to be a smash.

Ha! Your profile pic is purple Acki, are you from Merseyside as well?

I know he does. But people here make it sound like he does too much (touch too much? lol), like he goes drunk onstage or something and that he actually has alcohol inside those red vases on his stage table. There's no proof there's alcohol in them, maybe yes, maybe not. IMHO, I think that'd be insane but I really dont know.

    Why would that be insane?

  5. I think replacing an icon like Slash with a dude wearing a KFC bucket for a hat completely underwhelmed even the lowest of expectations. Plus everyone blamed Axl for the split so he automatically had an uphill battle trying to get any support from fans. He changed his look dramatically, changed the sound dramatically, he basically removed any shred of what once was and what people loved about GN'R. I personally loved Chinese Democracy and thought Axl delivered some fantastic performances over those years and I actually went to see them in 2012. But none of that even slightly compares to what they were before and what they are again now.

Dude, stop saying Axl is an alcoholic! :anger:

And this is NOT his first show out of the throne. He did Vienna standing up most of the concert. Check your facts before saying BS.

I think Axl is sick. Here you can see him blowing his nose (around 1.15 min)

I know there's another recent video with the same situation but cant find it now..

And here, with scarf on, he looks purple at times. He's clearly feeling very cold here. Remember Axl lives in California and he's not used to this shit European weather:

I did acknowledge that my "analysis" was most likely wrong. Chill. I also never said he was an alcoholic. And this was the first show he's done were he's deliberately not used the throne at all through the entire show. Yes, someone said he sat down during one of Angus's solos. Probably Let There Be Rock. But yeah, I am up to date on what's going on, I'm not just posting any old shit and claiming it as fact, quite the opposite if you actually read my post and not cherry pick the parts that piss you off.

But yeah, he could be a bit sick. That's also a possibility.

I just listened to Thunderstruck. I don't think tonight's performance was anything to worry about long-term. He was still hitting that one with rasp pretty hard about 95% of the time. Those squeaks though on the second verse, are not typical of him, even when Mickey is out in full force. A cracking voice like that is more typical of some sort of temporary issue with the vocal cords. Remember it was apparently pretty cold in Vienna - he was wearing a scarf for a majority of the show. This could be something as simple as him still feeling the strain after singing on a chilly night.

Yeah that Thunderstruck was awesome. It's so cool to see Axl standing there screaming next to Angus while he does his thing. I never thought we'd see something like that. What a great year this is to be a rock fan! (Catastrophic death toll aside of course.)

  8. This is my fanatical analysis (albeit mostly guesswork off of mobile recordings): Axl didn't have enough time to warm up due to the early start. Got over excited for his first show without the throne and thought he was the shit and absolutely went for it harder than usual (you can hear him going sick on BiB, sicker than usual anyway) so he tired his voice out a bit too early in the show. Plus I think he was a little bit more drunk than usual judging by him swaggering around thinking he's the shit. Also he had a couple of lyrical mistakes (forgot the first "yeah, it's alright" on Thunderstruck. All these factors (which are probably wrong :p) resulted in a less than stellar performance. Axl's greatness is a double edged sword in my opinion. He overperforms to such an unbelievable degree sometimes, that when he doesn't quite reach that level he gets criticized for it.

I've seen that but I don't think they are alcohol cups at all. They must be juices, energetic drinks or probably tea with lemon and honey.

Wouldn't it be too crazy for him to be drinking alcohol during the whole show? Hmmm

Not at all, it's only 2 hours and he's singing for the most part. Only enough time for 4 or 5 beers. Plus what's he supposed to do during Angus's Let There Be Rock solo? :P

Ok, but I haven't seen that in other shows so for one time we can't say that he's always drinking alcohol.... On stage? I don't know... If it's just a sip I guess it's not too bad.

He always had a table at the back of the stage full of red cups during NuGN'R and has a guy to refill his red cup on the chair. It's not water as he has a water bottle there as well. He's a rockstar. He likes to drink. Probably loosens him up for the show and helps with nerves etc. He probably just went a bit overboard tonight haha.

I've gotta be honest, I don't think Touch Too Much sounds that good. First off, the riff sounds too twangy to me - Angus needs to do that palm-muting with the heavy accents from the studio version, that's what makes the song groove IMO. And I don't think it's the most suitable song for Axl's voice. When he goes for the high notes at the end the rasp is there, but most of the song sits in that range between his middle range and his falsetto. Very hard to deliver the rasp in that range, plus I don't think the rasp would song especially good on that one.

Still awesome they played it though. I'm curious to hear Dog Eat Dog now.

Pretty sure they've played Dog Eat Dog already on this tour. I could be mistaken. I watched Riverplate again the other day so I could be getting confused with that.

they should really just drop a Brian Johnson song instead.  Axl seems to have an easier time and sounds better on the Bon songs anyway IMO :shrugs:

I disagree, he sounds super powerful and like vintage Axl on the Brian stuff. He goes too clean too often on the Bon material in my opinion.

Where can I hear Touch too much?

You'll probably have to wait a few hours until someone puts it on YouTube. Rolling Stone will probably do an article on it, they did when Rock N' Roll Damnation was played and when Axl stood up for the first time during the last show in Vienna.
