I remember reading on the Herald recently that in like a worldwide internet speed test NZ beat Australia by quite a bit, and ofcourse the Herald loved making a huge deal about that haha.

I'm going to try periscope a bit from Western Springs, if I figure out how to use it!

LOL, I bet they did. They are slowly rolling out the NBN here (National broadband network) with better speeds.

Internet is actually pretty good in all the main cities and towns, so internet speed shouldn't be a problem, won't be as good as Japan or US I imagine though.

I'd never heard of periscope before this forum though, so it might just not really be a 'thing' here

I thought my internet was good in Aus until I went to Korea, I haven't lived in NZ for 10 years but assume they are on par with Aus.

I hope there are some periscopes, I am keen to get on the WS link as ALK is home.

Timely book.  A lot of families out there dealing with their children's drug addictions.  It's just as a horrific experience for them as the addict.  I'm sure it wasn't easy for her to relive these experiences to tell her story but kudos to her for having the strength.  Hopefully people approach it from something to learn and not as some disclosure to dirty business that the family should have kept a secret.

I agree with this. It has the potential to be a great read from a interesting POV. Millions of family's are affected by drug addiction & alcoholism, it will be relatable to a lot of people. I don't get all the hate, it seems extremely small minded & childish. Is his mom a proven money grub with a history of cashing in on her son?

It's just straight forward verse chorus verse stuff, with solos...saturated with guitars and in some instances some kind of fuckin' out of the way motif that sounds lazily slapped across it to make you go 'ooh, this sounds a little trip hop'.  It's uninspired at best and phoney at worst.  It's dilettante shit of the worst kind.

That is a great description & very much how I feel about the album / music.

Honestly, it bucket put a solo over this & Pitman added some sub base it would fit on CD.

IMO, they were sounding amazing at that point but they weren't half as good as the original band.

Matt is way better than Frank but he didn't do that much better when it came to playing some of Steven's stuff. Mr. Brownstone's intro is fn' painful to see.

Slash + Izzy + Axl + Duff + Steven = GNR. Matt & Gilby were aliens as much as the new ones, even though I liked them more (mostly Matt over Frank, 'cause I do like Richard).

No other incarnation will reach this level of magic. Love you AFD5

    100% this. This is GnR.

The 'Slash makes the shitty Chinese songs so much better' is a myth. There's a few changes with Better (intro-bridge) and I don't think I like it more that it originally was, nor that it sounds more GnR to a certain degree.

But overall Chinese Democracy, This I Love, Sorry, Catcher In The Rye or There Was A Time remain quite the same. Some I like a bit more, some not. Of course, the show is louder and visually very appealing.

I don't have an opinion on the matter as I don't listen to them with, our without Slash playing.

I do believe had the music been created by even the current line up it would have been a better end product. I find CD unlistenable & I have tried several times.

All I'm saying is I think SOD is the bones of a good Guns song, though it needs work.

tommy Stinson sucks. i used to be a fan of tommy in guns n roses. but not anymore. tommy is a big reason axl still doesn't pull the trigger on chinese democracy 2 and chinese democracy 3 and the Chinese democracy remix cds. and tommy is the bassist player on all these albums. not duff. what a disappointment. tommy doesn't even talk about when Going Down is coming out and what chinese album Going Down is coming out on. tommy sucks. Going Down is GREAT but tommy SUCKS. it sucks neither tommy or axl will release Going Down as a proper mp3 and on the next chinese guns n roses CD. and it sucks tommy never plays Going Down live at a gig too.

I didn't understand any of that

Fair play to your opinion but what can be agreed IS - from what I've seen (and luckily was there) - Those 2010 double O2 shows in London were some of the best from the Nu-GNR era, along with Duff making his first appearance, the band sounding pretty awesome , Axl was just on fire !!

Fair play to your opinion but if you titled the thread "ONE OF THE GREATEST EVER Nu-GNR "Don't Cry" Performances ?" Your thread may have been better received.

Axl's outro was good, but the first few cords completely ruin the song for me, I instantly know i'm not listening to GNR. Axl's best vocals ever couldn't save that.

I hate the word triggers too because you have every emo turd on Instagram using it but really what else can you call it? lol I wasn't trying to say that it's a quick moment that sets them off and then boom they are relapsed. I meant whatever their issues are if they start having similar problems they can relapse. A lot of the people in this thread were acting like if you had a few years of sobriety under your belt it's no longer possible and that's just not the case for most people with addiction issues.

I wasn't trying to have a go at you personally, probably a bit of "lost in translation" there. Way I see it is...When you are new to sobriety you certainly need to be mindful of people, places or situations that could be considered risky, but this is because you are still very much unwell & new to sobriety. As you learn to live your life in a totally different way, doing the things required to maintain your sobriety on a daily basis, the same risky situations are no longer an issue. But if you chose to stop doing the things that keep you well, (regardless of length of sobriety as you said), you will slowly relapse back into the state of mind that will tell you its ok to drink or use again. Something may well happen that could be said eventually "triggered" the user & it would look like that is what made them pick up to someone who doesn't understand alcoholism or addiction, but the relapse started long before picking up,  using again was only a matter of time, not if. I have spoken to plenty of people who have used after long term sobriety, the stories are always the same in essence.

Both Slash & Duff mention falling off the wagon during the VR days in their books. Matt also had a rehab stint during VR. The only one in the band that remained sober in VR was Dave Kushner.

It's always a possibility that they can relapse again. Addicts are addicts for life. It doesn't matter if they're sober for 5, 10, or 20+ years there is always a chance of relapse. It all just depends on what their triggers are. Philip Seymour Hoffman is a perfect example of that. He was sober for 23 years before relapsing and ultimately losing his battle with his addictions.

I really hope that they can maintain their sobriety but who knows. :shrugs:

"Triggers" is a rubbish rehab word. Recovery is not about "every day is a struggle" "I need to watch my triggers". Relapse is always a possibility, but it is exactly that, a relapse back into active addiction. someone with long term sobriety doesn't just get triggered one day & use again, I watch it happen from time to time & it is more often than not a gradual move away from doing the things they need to do to stay well.

I just noticed that people are now, that Guns n' Roses are touring with almost the original lineup again, finally giving credit to the Chinese Democracy album. You now can read many appreciative comments on youtube while all the time before there was mostly hate. Makes me a bit sad.
    I always liked that album.
All the years nothing than how bad that album is and now...almost completely changed. It's good that album gets the credit it deserves, however, Axl clearly had a vision years ago when his band members probably weren't ready for it.
What I wonder is, why is that?
Is that because people regardeded Axl as the one who didn't want to continue old Gn'R stuff and now that they're together again it's easier to appreciate his work? Any ideas?

If it makes you feel any better... I still hate it.
