But the first year that this iteration of guns reunited--(2016,) should have given him and everyone enough money to retire (x 10)  for ten lifetimes

Why does he feel the need to milk every last penny out of the memory of this band?

Axl was a recluse for a decade (refusing every single offer of a tour full stop)

He was a rich man. No matter what

What is his motive now? What  is the purpose of The relentless touring now ?

Axl was not a person who craves money or the limelight, so why?

Well, unlike his peers and contemporaries, Axl never had the opportunity to make large sums of cash off his band. U2, Metallica, The Stones are all examples of bands who were making hundred of millions off touring. Prior to the reunion Axl never got the big paydays if others bands for his life’s work. It’s funny looking at the reunion now because I never thought it would happen, but it was inevitable.

I think the first tour after the release of CD he genuinely tried to build some momentum. He introduced DJ and honestly, the 09’ amd 10’ shows were great! I think when album sales didn’t really pick up l, as well as the possible rejection of CD2, I think he said hell with it. The 2011-2014 tours I believe were to get what he could because it seems like it would be over soon. The ability to do arenas in the US was quickly fading, so I think he did what he could to earn as much as possible as he could.

I still like to think the reunion didn’t happen just the money, obviously a big part of it, but I think he realized the public wasn’t, and weren’t ever going to get behind the new GNR. Since the reunion, it’s been massive! They’ve made more money on this tour than probably the sum of their entire career. So I think it’s been going strong because it doesn’t make good business sense not to. He also is going on early, seems to be having a good time, and hasn’t missed any shows. He even played a show while having the flu. Axl from any other era, would use any reason under the sun to skip a show or come on late.

I agree with your whole post. The reunion was about more than cash grab. Axl is the worlds biggest GNR fan. It’s his baby. His life. I believe Axl wanted GNR to be a global force again.m and to be respected. As he aged he could see GNR were going to be viewed poorly and that perception would largely be viewed as his fault. Axl didn’t want GNR to die as NuGuns, a band that can’t even sale out 3k seat theaters in the US. There may be no new music coming down the pipe, but at least GNR will end on a respectful note for most fans.

Even if I did get the vaccine, I wouldn't buy tickets to GNR

My title thread is worded incorrectly. I wasn’t asking if anybody here will get vaccine just to see GNR. I mean for those who are against or anxious about a vaccine, would attending a concert be enough to sway you to get one is what I intended to ask.

I’ll only go see GnR live again (and get vaccinated for it, of course) if there’s a guarantee of new music, which there won’t be, so it doesn’t matter.

that being said, there are plenty of other bands that I do still want to see live once covid is over, and I will definitely get vaccinated to go see them, the top of my list being the Red Hot Chili Peppers, now that John Frusciante is back in the band.

I can’t wait for a RHCP tour with Frusciante, and there will be new music too. I agree it would be a much better tour than GNR.

Man, just checking for the first time since the pandemic began to read this shit news.  I was planning on flying over to Chicago for a little blues at Kingston Mines and a Guns N' Roses show at Wrigley.

This pandemic is taking away valuable shelf-life of our aging rock stars.  I only like "legacy acts" and they're all starting to sound like shit with age.  Fast-forward two years and I'm sure that James Hetfield, Huey Lewis, Joe Elliott, and our beloved Axl will not sound any better than they did in 2019.

I hope you are all well and also hope that each of you American forum members don't end up hating yourself too much as you atone for your "white privilege" in the Joe Biden era.

How can we ever atone for our white privilege?

It's too late for that now. What are they gonna do - same old songs, Axl still sounding like shit, no new music. Plus everone knows what the motivation for that would be. It would be even more depressing than what we have now, 100%.

No new music has finally become an issue this many years later. Whatever chemistry remains within the big 3 it must be only be In performing live. We don’t know if Axl still wants to make music and develop the ideas to an actual release. If there isn’t going to be new music, and I mean, if Axl internally has accepted that reality, then there should be one final tour around the globe. Even with new music, Axl at 60 performing music live just isn’t an appealing idea.

Dude he was playing in the Psychedelic Furs when they picked him up, and he played with them 2 more years after that. Not exactly a bar band.

Well, it’s whatever, I love the guy. He’s the only GNR drummer I’ve seen live. And he’s not a goofball like Steve or a douche bag like Matt. I’d love to interview Frank and hear what’s it been like for him. He keeps his head down.

It's fine, they made it work in the end

Lol. Perfect answer. Fortus did state in an interview that the timing with those 3 took time. I mean Frank is a good drummer, but he was plucked from a bar band. He must pinch himself daily for his fortune. There was no way Axl was bringing in anybody new or old.

I didnt even try to get tickets for any of the US shows bc I dont believe they are going to happen.  it took forever to get Ticketmaster to refund me last year, all the while I had to pay interest to my credit card company bc I had a balance on my credit card.  things haven't got any better for me financially so I'm not going to waste any more money on credit card interest.  perhaps there are others in the boat as well which may contribute to the poor sales

the reality is the US wont acive herd immunity until about 75 percent of the population had been vaccinated.   so that's over 200 million people.  the 2 vaccines have been out for less than a month and they have immunized 5.9 million people.  More vaccines are on their way which will get things moving even faster, but how many people can realistically get a vaccine in a month?  even if its 40 million per month, we are talking about nearly 5 months.  and the 2 vaccines that are out will take 2 months from the date of the first shot to be fully effective.

so IMO I dont believe there can be a tour until October at best.

if they dont release a new album by then, I would think the only way the tour will generate any demand is bring back the AFD5 and announce they are playing the full AFD album during the show.  that might be enough to get the casual fan to go to a show.

There is never going to be an AFD5 tour. For one there will always be Dizzy and another keyboardist. And Steven is just too damn goofy to deal with for those other guys.

I don’t know why people say this. GNR has like 6 hit songs. Songs that actually charted well. People come to hear great music and see Axl/Slash, probably more Slash at this point. I don’t care what anybody says Axl is looking stranger every tour, which maybe wouldn’t be too bad if Duff and Fortus both weren’t standing right next to him in excellent health.

    More on this:

Besides Vicky Hamilton and Doug Goldstein, other people interviewed include Tom Zutaut, John Reese and Monica Gregory. And Mick Wall who was also in the "Breaking the band" episode (as an "expert" because of his shitty biography, I suppose)

If I want to know something about GNR/Axl I’ll reference your excellent site.

Plenty of people "like" Guns N Roses. They have millions of casual fans. However, the casual fans only wanted to see Axl & Slash on the same stage. They've already seen that, sometimes several times in big markets.

GN'R have exhausted the casual market for ticket sales. Massive amounts of people aren't going to pay to see the same show again, which was proven by embarrassingly low pre pandemic ticket sales.

It really is the same show, too. It didn’t used to other me until I was watching U2 DVD the other night night. U2 pretty much play to casuals at this point, but they produce new music and have a new tech savy stage set up for every tour. GNR have been essentially using the same stage since UYI.

It's funny how this logic only applies to GNR, when Bucket's been involved in multiple bands (both live and studio), and Bumble's had great success with Sons of Apollo, and working with Asia.  :jerkoff:  It seems like he and Tommy will always take shots at Bumble when given the opportunity, I feel bad for the guy.  No doubt in my mind the bullying environment in GNR was real.

Being in GNR is a different animal. Even Izzy didn’t want to be in a major touring rock band and all thy goes with it.

Did anyone seriously think the US shows would happen this year?

People have already seen the Axl/Slash stadium tour reunion show. Interest was already low before the pandemic, and every band is gonna be competing for the same ticket money once touring is back to normal. Since ticket-buyers will have options, they'll probably look online at some of the most recent performances before dropping a couple hundred on a ticket. Anyone who watches the Selects is likely to pick another option... those videos are honestly the worst promotion they could've done for future shows.

Couldn’t agree more about the selects. This is where Fernando shows he is an amateur. However, I was hopeful about summer shows.
