The production of 4 is the biggest issue with that record
Agreed. The other big issue is that there's plenty of cool song ideas but they needed a good producer to develop them into something better (take them from good to great). I think Clink would've done a better job than Dave Cobb.

I'm hoping that this leads to Mike Clink doing the next SMKC record. Such an improvement in production compared to 4.

I might go for one of the VIP packages but I'm not sure yet. Will probably wait a little while and see if the prices go down.

Ah back when he was playing with more gain instead of the weak tone that he had on the last couple tours.

I just saw an article that went "Meet the guitar player who played with Ryan Gosling at the Oscars" and the subtitle read "The Guns N' Roses guitarist collects awards and praise since the beginning of his career".
What a smart move for Slash. This is how it's done. He just got exposure to a whole generation that barely knew him, right before the release of his new album.
This is what happens when you get real management and a competent team behind you, instead of your ex-housekeeper and her family.
Can you share the link here?
I also really enjoyed the performance and it's been the most talked about part of the Oscars so far.

I think so as well, VR has such a negative vibe all around, I guess it's not inspiring to the guys in any way anymore.
I mean that now that they've been doing GnR successfully for 8 years I don't think they're interested in rebooting VR.
11 hours ago, Ant000 said:There's no nostalgia for VR, and they'll never top Contraband as a cultural and musical achievement (not saying it's that great, but in terms of popularity, crossover success, winning a grammy, showing they could "do it again," securing a really lucrative record contract etc.). Libertad was a flop, the whole thing became poisonous between the guys (and their wives?), Scott is dead... Hell VR almost didn't get off the ground until Scott walked in the door. They'd probably never find "the singer" again at this point. And if they did, they'd probably be better off with a new name and clean slate.
10 hours ago, Ericstacey said:Same. I think Slash has zero interest in doing VR-it seems like he's the one who pulled the plug on it, seems to enjoy working with Myles, and I'm not sure they would play much bigger venues than he's playing in now, if at all.
Yeah once SMKC got going he probably decided that he preferred that to trying to redo VR, especially since he was playing some VR songs too back then.

No, I want more SMKC.

Would free them up to make music together and I'd certainly like to hear what they did.
I don't think that's ever going to happen.

Wasn't this album announced before then? I suspect it was mostly done before the GNR June '23 tour...
The RS article says that it was recorded last spring.

Kind of disappointing that it's just covers.

I have wondered about that, but we still see him without the hat, even pulling it back in a ponytail. And there never seemed to be a point where it was thinning and then suddenly recovered. He's definitely dying it at least, his facial hair comes in grey.
Yeah he's dying it for sure.
15 hours ago, Rindmelon said:I cant find it now but there was a picture of him with a guitar shop owner on tour last year without his hat, and it's thin as fuck up there. Yet when he has his hat on stage sometime's you can almost see difference between his hair and to the other strands of hair I suspect are stapled to the inside of his hat. If he is loosing it he should just shave it off and embrace it, nothing wrong with it at all, for other people I mean not me, if it happens to me i will book a one way flight to dignitas
I don't think he's got hair attached to his hat but it's definitely starting to become thinner. I know what photo you're talking about though.

Would love to hear them try Locomotive, I think they would do it better than GnR.

It's strange he's playing it with a Les Paul if he does remember. He always changes to the type of guitar he recorded the songs with, like on YCBM for example, where he changes also.
2 hours ago, 22frets said:He probably didn't plan that far ahead to bring his Strat with him on tour. Might have been too late by the time he remembered that he used it in the song.
Or he doesn't care. When SMKC was doing YCBM on the WOF tour he used Les Paul for that also.

That or the UYI boxset reminded him that those songs exist.
I think it's the UYI boxset that reminded him of them. My guess is he had probably not heard or thought of DDM and BA in years then heard them again when going through the stuff for the boxset and thought maybe I'll try them with SMKC if we're not doing them in GnR.

Emmitt Till was just a plain tragic thing. He apparently said something like,"You're pretty!" And the Woman said he raped her or something. This also happened in 1955 when Whites had a LOT of power and Blacks didn't really have any real power yet. Especially not a young 14 year old boy. Poor Emmitt didn't deserve to be abducted, tortured, and lynched. 😫 Sad thing is, he could have still been alive today, at 82. 😫
Before she died, that woman admitted that she made the accusations up. He never did any of that.

Just missing that harmony vocal in the chorus but it sounds great otherwise.

Going off of this, in all seriousness it could be nice to see this song end up as a GNR song. It's the other song with Slash from Duff's unreleased album, written around the same time as the CD leftovers were too.
Yeah that's a great one

Yes.
He did audition (or at least asked to try out) before the got Scott:

Oh so he was one of the many who were invited to submit an audition tape. I don't think he actually jammed with them though right? Wonder why it didn't go anywhere but I'm glad we got him in SMKC because he's a great bass player too.

Me neither. Didn't Fitzy introduced him to Slash?
Yes. They were playing with a different bass player who wasn't a good fit then Fitzy mentioned TK.

Toque seem like a fun band.
Some more Toque ones that I like:
And some GnR:
