Call me crazy, but I rank it as the best album to this day, post 2000. It sold a million copies in the US without any promotion or support from Axl Rose, and releasing one of the weakest songs on the album as the first single. Let's say, Axl does proper promotion of the album, interviews, shows, releases There Was a Time as the first single along with epic UYI style music video, followed by Better, Street of Dreams, Prostitute, Catcher in the Rye....all with epic videos, this monster sells 10 million plus, easy. If Axl did this, Finck stays and hell, even Bucket might have come back.

    LOL

Has it been confirmed that the graffiti is real? I always assumed that part was photoshopped into it.

It's not just the fact that it's real that's important, it was taken in the Kowlokn Walled City which is wild. The odds of finding that are incredibly slim. Next to zero. What a cool photo

The best comment anyone has ever made about drummers on this forum.

As I've said before, counting Josh just makes no sense. We know he's a good drummer, but a good Guns N' Roses drummer? We never heard him play the back catalogue, he never played a single show.

And with the others, they all played their own material greatly, but weren't a perfect fit for anything else. Frank is, for me, the best middle ground of the ones that came before him. In a show you want a cohesive thing from start to finish. He blends all eras nicely into a decent sounding set. He doesn't deserve the shit he gets here – if he does, Brain deserves the same, but he's on a pedestal here.

Brain is definitely the better drummer, dude is fantastic behind the kit but Frank does a great job too and probably fits in with Slash and Duff better.

I mean anyone questioning Franks talent only needs to know that Danny fucking Carey, one of the greatest drummers of all time has invited Frank up on stage to play with him multiple times.

Agree. The CD cover is flat out ugly

I actually love it. The fact that the photo was taken in Kowloon Walled City is so cool. The fact that anybody there was even listening to Guns n' Roses is just amazing.  And I love the colors. The only thing I don't really care for is how it says Guns N' Roses on the side.  With it being painted on the wall I think they could have just gotten away with putting Chinese Democracy on the bottom or the side with the GNR three star logo with it.

Truly a great photo too.  Iconic imo

Been a GN'R fan for 36 years, and I think "The General" is easily one of the ten worst songs the band has ever officially released. Seems like everyone's trying to polish a turd here, but that's what the song is: a turd.

Wasn't everyone kind of expecting something epic? Based on the urban legends of the song, it should have been something on a grand scale like Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir". Instead, we get a song that sounds distorted, with repetitive lyrics ( "don't know what to tell you now", over and over). We waited 25 years for THIS?

Just ditch the whole industrial rock/nu metal garbage, and go back to making rock and roll music.

Eh I like distorted vocals and I never minded repeated verses.  Always was weird to me that someone would complain when a verse repeats but not a chorus.  Also I enjoy industrial rock and nu metal so to each their own.

I do agree that the general isn't some epic track on the level of Estranged or November Rain but I think it's a good song regardless

The obvious answer is to call Izzy but that's not gonna happen. I think he's too stubborn to hire writers who aren't 'part of the crew' like Arkeen, Huge, etc.

But I agree, hiring songwriters wouldn't be a bad thing.

I don't think the issue is getting Axl to write the songs. If Slash, Duff, Richard and Axl sat down to write an album I'm sure they could churn something out with at least a couple bangers

I think Axl just has little to no desire to enter a studio, deal with a producer and a record label anymore.  I think everything he went thru during Chinese Democracy just turned him off to the whole idea of it.  Axl seems like a man at peace enjoying his life right now, why would he want to do something that he doesn't enjoy if he doesn't have to?

In my view it's as I said before - they tried to stuff too much on to a 7" vinyl, it was abysmal quality as a result, and now it's just The General.

Who's have thought it hey?! If only there was some information out there about how much music you can stuff on a vinyl without it sounding garbage....like, say, on the website of the company printing your vinyl? In my opinion this is possibly the most amateur hour yet, if that is what happened.

Glad we got Monsters though anyway. I can't see it getting a release any time soon, unless it's bunged on the Japanese CD version.

I have the 7 inch of November Rain and it sounds fine. And that album is 30 years old. This is such a weak excuse to an issue that isn't totally uncommon.

My vinyl of the new Spiritbox EP was just delayed because of the same reason. The quality was not what they wanted and it was a 6 song EP on a 10 inch vinyl. It happens. Be glad they are getting the product correct instead of releasing a bad quality product.

  8. It's funny how much of my life this album took up.  I got into GNR in like 1997/98 when I was 14/15 and they became one of my biggest interests in life.  I had to know everything about them, everything about the new band. All the rumors. Hanging out in chats during the first shows with the new band. Posting on the guns n roses official message boards.  Just waiting for this album to come out.  I am 40 now and that went on for like 25% of my life lol

I do enjoy the album though for better or worse.  I think it has incredible highs and some really mid mids.  A few songs on there though are probably some of my favorite songs of all time (TWAT, Madagascar and Sorry for sure).  I still listen to it as much as any other GNR album honestly.

It definitely probably partially came with Richard, which I think is cool. It is really neat that Slash and Duff formed such a bond with one of "Axl's guys". I trust Slash with his tone. They are nice amps. He will probably still have his Marshalls on tour, too

It's so funny how people around here try to build the narrative that Slash hates Richard or Frank and is only doing this for the money when the band all seem to love one another and get along great.  Richard has even gone to SMKC shows.

I'm sure Richard is a lot happier playing with Slash than Ashba 🤣

Aerosmith has been using an off stage singer to hit the high notes for Steven for years now. I don't know why Melissa hasn't been used much more significantly on vocals in a similar manner the past 7 years.

I think Axl just wants to give as live a performance as he can, and sing the songs to the best of his ability.  For better or worse he isn't going to rely on people off stage and backing tracks and all the stuff other singers rely on. I appreciate that too.  I mean say what you will about Axl's voice today but when I buy my ticket I'm there to see Axl sing. Not someone off stage or a recording.  Dude busts his ass up there
