I wonder why they are only seemingly doing a Japanese CD release this time. Hard Skool and Absurd got the works, trifecta. CD, vinyl, and audio cassette!
My guess would simply be that the Hard Skool CD didn't sell well in the US. Also I believe Japan still buys CDs at the highest rate in the world today (CD sales are still really good there!).

Richard is awesome. A great player and a humble guy. Been with the band over 20 years now. Such an underrated player

Just a thought, Is it at all possible that the vocals are muffled and pretty low quality from the recordings of the vocals likely laying around for years unused? I know they arent analogue so they dont degrade so much but surely the amount of different computers and USBs the files were passed around on would create some type of degradation in the file itself?
Lol no

The best I was ever to was Philly 2016. Axl acted as if he had something to prove and was on fire that night. It was also the first time Sorry was performed with Slash and Duff. And I have no doubt that Axl played that song to apologize for 2002. It was just a really great time. One I'll never forget

I haven’t spun the record yet. The speaker I have connected to my record player is awful

My vinyl set arrives Wednesday and I already have buyer’s remorse . I don’t need all the extra stuff (although the big display box looks nice), but I really want the records.
I got hardcore into vinyl this year with an emphasis on live shows, so I do really want these. @RussTCB was kind enough to give me the AfD box since he only wanted the records. I never bothered to track those down since I have the super deluxe CD set in the big AfD box and there weren’t any live shows included.
The UYI box I’m way more interested in the actual records since I want the Ritz 91 and Vegas 92. I already have a few UYI shows on vinyl, so these are nice to add to the collection. I wish you could just buy them separately with the new artwork, but the band definitely wants you to fork out the $$$.
Oh well, at least it was discounted
The coffee table book is pretty nice and the Blu ray is great

I love the long shows. I think it shows that they really care. In the last couple of years I saw RHCP and Arctic Monkeys do less than 2 hours and not even play half of their big songs.
Yeah j saw RHCP twice in 2022.
The second time they headlined a festival and were scheduled to play til 10:50 and they cut the set at 1030 and didn't play Under the Bridge, Otherside, Scar Tissue or some others. Everyone in the pit seemed super confused when the lights came on

Even the mid tier epics on UYI, like a locomotive or Breakdown have more soul than these songs....they are musical journeys.
The General is just a repetitive idea...nothing more.
The ironic thing is that thru could have fused it wirh monsters with the same orchestra and THAT would have been an epic musical journey.
Axl has had MORE THAN 20 years to tinker wirh these songs and all he has left in him is repetitive lazy lyrics and bad mixing.
I hope I'm wrong and they release something great that GNR is capable of but....the passion might not be there anymore.
The problem with these songs is the same problem Chinese Democracy had. There just weren't very talented song writers in the band. Guys like bucket and Brian are insanely talented but as song writers go, what have they ever written that had a chance to make an impact in any way a GNR song has made.
I like Chinese Democracy, I like the songs on it, I like a lot of the solo work these guys ha e done but there isn't much I can sit down and say wow that song is really well written.
Even my favorite songs on it like There Was A Time the chorus isn't very good, or Sorry the outro is not very good. And these are some of my favorites songs of all time lol. But the song writing in a song like Locomotive is just so much better.

It's funny to think that The General can cause damage when they released One in A Million back in the day. If anything One In A Million had the potential to cause much more damage to GNR, but it didn't. Additionally, the article that came out in 1994 regarding Axl 's relationship with Stephanie and Erin would have caused a ton more damage than song in 2023.
This post is an overreaction to The General. The song is average that will not cause damage. If anything, it may even eventually enhance the reputation of GNR (Axl specifically) considering it's about child abuse. The only other song that I know of that deals with child abuse is Janine's Got a Gun. Other than that no other songs that I know of tackle this subject matter. It may help victims of child abuse tackle their feelings on this and may be used in therapy or something. At worst the general becomes a piss break during their next tour for most people while a few dorks like me look forward to hearing it lol

Man Buckethead's solo sounds so great on this officially released version!
Clearly Marc Haggard is the one playing the solo. Isn't it obvious?

I’m really happy with the song. It rocks, it pushes their catalog/style further, nice guitar work, & Axl dug deep into some old pain to write the lyrics…I mean isn’t that what Guns N Roses is?
Song is great. Especially when it gets to the middle and the orchestrated part takes over. And then Axl comes in with the bridge. Slash's playing is so good.
I understand why a lot of old heads probably don't but I love the distorted vocals.
Just a real great track

Might seem like an odd question for some, but it really annoys me that the whole Perhaps/The General thing was presented as vinyl-exclusive. But then when everyone has ordered the vinyl they still announce a CD version (Japen only, but still) and now all signs are pointing towards it turning up on Spotify soon. Which means that GnR is blatently lying to their fanbase about "exclusives" just to sell more crap. That doesn't sit right with me. Anybody feel similar?
It was never presented as vinyl exclusive. They never once said it would be vinyl exclusive, they never hinted at it. Nothing. This was just some insane theory people here came up with. The only person to blame for believing it is yourself

Yeah, I see your point and agree - kids have always worn t-shirts of bands they've probably never even listened to. But I'm not sure those same kids would go to the GNR website. They're more likely to pick it up in a commercial chain store.
I would think the same. But who knows. Online shopping is dominating the stores now.
I saw Bad Omens and Spiritbox last year (two of the hottest young bands in the rock world) and both their merch booths had a lot of similar looking items. Tie dye hoodies, shirts, joggers etc.

Which is pretty much the majority of the GNR target audience...
For music yes, for fashion not as much. You see GnR shirts pop up in a lot of stores you or me probably wouldn't shop at. But there are a lot of people out there wearing GNR shirts because they like the logo, or the name or the style or it's a cool fit.

All of it tho.
Probably the most exciting year of GNR since 2016
