Anyway, sorry for rambling..... Look for some used JBL L100's in great shape and you can't go wrong man.  My wife uncle spent thousands on new speakers and these blew this away.

I'll research the new decks, but the Sony STR is good.

But when you bring things up in volume by using compression, it give one the illusion (pun intended) that things are better / cleaner.  Things jump out.  For instance Slash is more in the mix on this one (which is a good thing). Izzy, even came up in areas I thought he was tucked in the original master. Yet, you then lose dynamics.  Form the quiet parts of the song to the loudest parts. Now, Appetite is not a super dynamic album.  Meaning, it's not a whisper quiet to full on.  Most of the songs are in your face.  So, the compression isn't that apparent.  What you will notice is an increase in ear fatigue.  It's always better to be able to crank a recording that has a lower volume.  It will be interesting to see what they did with the USB 24/192 files. IF anything, that may be a revelation for things we have never heard on the source recording.

 

Would love to help you man... You looking to play LP's or mostly CD's....  What budget are you looking at?  Going to play your tv through the system?  Xbox, etc....

no budget. if it's expensive but worth it then I'll buy it.

shocked! what is all of this? what is going on? everything is happening all at once and I can't keep up. guitars everywhere! and, hahahaha yeeaaaaah Axl sounds fucking BADASS.

oh, nice, they play visuals with each song. Seem like those leaflets they put in the L&L box depicting each song. But now, it's animated. things are moving. cool. a great mood setter. 

ok what do we have. Axl sounds neatly in the middle, right we have slash. Alright. it's fucking happening. I wonder though, what was that true HD shit, which my player can't decode. I wonder if this impacts the performance? Well, I wouldn't know. it sounds great as it is!

the vocals are spectacular. everything sounds like it's played "live", not studio.

3. nightrain

great slash sound. bass & drums awesome. this sounds nothing like the 1987 master, what the hell is this?? So much new discoveries! man, these pictures are nice. and all those guitars! guitar heaven! this is like... you know that picture of pluto we had for decades? and you couldnt make shit up? and recently they released that ultra HD picture of pluto and you saw all these canyones and dunes and colours that were always there, but you didnt notice? this is the same! fascinating!

smooth harmony singing. this sounds like a remix? I'm smiling at the bad - assness. everything is more "audible" but I guess with a 1000 watt speaker set, it better lol.

what a masterpiece is appetite. everything sounds new and exciting.

it sounds moody as fuck. Again, is this song being played slower? this sounds so damn good.... wait , are those new backing vocals?

unwanted illusions can be found on youtube.  some cool stuff on there.

hey guys i have a question:

the remastered cd doesn't sound any different to me.  I'm listening in either my car stereo (base model) or a pair of beats wireless headphones. 

I need to get a new stereo system for my home, what would you guys recommend?  would the AFD remaster sound better on the system you recommend?  would love some advise from any of your guys who are into this stuff.  

In all honesty I find an illusions box set more intriguing than the one that just came out.  been listening to it since Friday and it's cool and all, but I have heard most of this stuff online already. 

and maybe I'm in the minority, but the remaster appetite album sounds pretty much the same as the one I have owned for 30 yrs.  I'm not a musician, so perhaps im just ignorant to how this is any different than what I already own.  or perhaps I should upgrade my speakers.  

the reason the thought of an illusions box set is more interesting to me is to hear Adler on most of the songs and to hear them less produced as some of what has leaked online from that era has been very cool. 

hope they do it.  hope they don't charge what they did for Friday's release.  I'm not sorry I bought it, but for stuff the real GNR fans have already heard, it should have cost less.  And the diehard GNR fans are mostlikely the only ones who bought this box set.

Am I the only one surprised that Slash only makes $4.1 mill per year?   I mean I certainly don't make that and I'd take it in a heartbeat, but considering the tour has grossed several hundred million dollars....  Seems low, right?  

as others have said, isn't Axl sick more than anyone you know?  and isn't duff a vitamin c specialist (paraphrasing, I'm referring most recent interview with Chris Jehrico)?  

isn't Melissa also a vocal coach?   can't they play backing tracks for the parts axl cant sing????  HOW IS HE GETTING THIS MUCH WORSE???  what does Axl Think when he goes back and watches video of the show?

I have to wonder what Slash and Duff think...... do they see a reputable future staying in GNR?  or will the more time that goes by make this band a joke?

nonetheless I'm hoping it gets better and looking forward to some new songs.  you think Slash would change it up and play Anastasia for his solo?  

I'm going to say it's Dizzy. he has a new album out. while he wasn't in the band for AFD he was "in the studio next door" for a lot of the demo sessions in 1986 that are being released as part of this box set, and so he knows pretty much everything anyway. And maybe he was "more sober" than the GNR guys in 1986 so maybe that's a good excuse to have him speak for the box set bc the gnr guys dont remember much. 

(I cringed the whole time I typed this and just threw up a little.)

here's my question:  if Steven was supposed to play at the troubadour and then got hurt but then got better, why would Duff (and the guys) kick him out of the show and future show for getting hurt?  perhaps because he didn't rehearse enough?  he probably plays afd every day in his basement.  surely he could catch up to speed quick.

that story has never added up to me. drummer gets injured so he is kicked off the tour..... idk.

I have this cd.  it is axl and slash.  I'm looking at the booklet right now. 

duff plays bass on "purchase my freedom" and Izzy co wrote "wound up in a vega" and also plays guitar on it
