If AC/DC reforms with Brian and Axl's second-job goes away, I wonder if he'll be tempted to reform NewGNR while Slash goes off to do his solo thing

    Absolutely no way.

The reunion tour was as big as it was because Slash and Duff (but especially Slash) were back in the band. A Guns N' Roses lineup without those two guys (but especially Slash) will go nowhere fast.

With Slash touring behind his new album and Brian going back to AC/DC, I wonder what's the meantime/next project for Axl? Perhaps he's just taking some rest now, but maybe all the touring and playing with old band members also inspired him? Do you think he's working on some new music? I just hope he doesn't fall into an aftermath abyss of sorts with more downtime and fewer public performances to do now. Hey Axl if you read this I hope all is well! I would love to hear some new music from you!

Well, Guns N' Roses are going back on the road for some shows in November.

I say, let the man have a few weeks to recharge. He knows Slash has a commitment with the Conspirators, so let's just imagine Axl is tinkering with song lyrics, and working on some melodies on the piano. And, who knows if there's already been some new stuff recorded? Maybe we'll get a surprise in the fall. I don't believe Axl is going to allow this momentum the band's built up over the last two years to just fade away. He's fully aware of the demand for new Guns music.

Can't believe anyone would pay 1000 bucks, or even 100 for that dumb box set. Don't support the GNR brand until they release new music.

As I said in another thread, I think Axl/GN'R would be much more open to releasing new music if he felt it wouldn't be stolen off a torrent site before the physical copy hits store shelves.

Appetite For Destruction is the greatest rock album ever made. This remastered edition in all of it's formats (Locked N' Loaded, Super Deluxe, 2 CD, vinyl) should have already sold three million copies at least, but it's nowhere near that because people just steal it online.

Locked and loaded would be cool for 200. For 1000 it's a junk box

It's worth more than $200. An empty box would be worth at least $100-150.

Worth $999? No. I'd put the top value at around $600, but as I said in another thread, this box set and the Super Deluxe Edition likely would have been far less expensive if people stopped stealing their music off torrent sites. They could have produced 50,000 Locked N' Loaded sets and charged $300 for them; that would have made them more profit than 10,000 sets at $999.

I guess they're doin' this "witchfinding" with leaks n' demos because of AFD box set.

Give 3 more months or so and things will be back to normal.

Sales of the Locked N' Loaded set and Super Deluxe Edition are likely not what the band, management, and the label, expected.

I'm nearly 48, and I've always paid for my music. I don't even know how bit torrent sites work, never mind stealing anything off them. There are people I work with that steal music and movies all the time. Millenials are always wanting their stuff for free, which is why concert ticket prices are insane, and movies are out on blu-ray three months after premiering in the theater. It's killing both industries.

If music wasn't out there to be stolen, I'll bet these box sets would have been a whole lot cheaper. I'll also speculate the band would be more willing to release new music if they believed it wasn't going to be stolen off a torrent site before the physical copy can be released. I can't fault whoever's responsible for the You Tube clips disappearing. Some things are worth opening up your wallet for, which is why I own both the Locked N' Loaded set, and the Super Deluxe Edition. Call me Mr. Morals or whatever, but my love for this band and the joy they have brought to my life is why I'll always pay for what they're selling.

    It is incredibly baffling why:

    1. No new music appears to be forthcoming when we *know* that an album was ready years ago

    2. No explanation is forthcoming to the fans who adore this band as to why no new music appears to be forthcoming

Why does it have to be such an issue?

Maybe it was mandated by the label for Axl to repay them the money spent to produce and market Chinese Democracy.  I'd say it's very possible that some revenues from the reunion tour went directly back to the label to repay the debt from CD's failure.

If the label has recouped their losses, I'm sure they'll be happy to fund a new record, but again, they're going to ignore anything that doesn't have Slash and Duff's work on it. As an old school fan (hence the user name), I don't want material that was finished before Slash and Duff returned. A Guns album with Axl, Slash, and Duff is a lock for multi-platinum status, because it's what the majority of fans want. If they didn't, they wouldn't have packed stadiums and arenas for the reunion tour.

i think universal is a big company, very big. a lot of people in charge. hand an album in one day and a long haired manager will rock out to it and want it released. hand an album in the following day and it will fall in the hands of an old grey haired demis roussos fan that thinks "we cant subject the kids to this".

i hope after seeing a half billion dollar tour the record label want that old CD2 released. thats if the rumour is true.

The record label will insist any new Guns N' Roses material has to have Slash and Duff on it. They won't allow Axl to release an album that was recorded before Slash and Duff returned to the band. It's not what the public wants. If it's re-recorded with them, fine. No record company will ever give Axl millions upon millions of dollars again to spend on making a Guns album without them.

Another thing is everyone seems to forget how fragile Axl and Slash’s relationship is. So far everything Axl has said about Slash has been said with caution. He’s said everyone is getting along currently, but he’s said he still finds Slash’s book to have lies and has called him out on it.

Axl hasn’t been overly optimistic on Slash yet, he was touched that he “came to the CD songs” but even on prospects of a new album said “if they want to be part of it” so all these years of hate and anger towards Slash has left him wary of accepting this new relationship whole heartedly.

Again I think the studio is a dangerous place for these two to spend time. What Axl thinks gnr should be and what Slash thinks gnr should be are completely different things.

I don't think there's any animosity between Axl and Slash anymore. How could there be, when it was Axl who called Slash to extend the olive branch so the reunion tour could take place? I'd go so far as to say Axl was willing to divide ownership of the GN'R name to get Slash and Duff back, though who knows if that was in any negotiations.

At 56 and 53, respectively, Axl and Slash know each other well enough to determine what will have to happen so a new Guns N' Roses record can come to fruition. Slash works fast; Axl not so much. They'll have to meet each other in the middle. At one time, before the implosion in the mid 90's, the band was releasing material at a somewhat rapid pace. They had the 'Live Like A Suicide' EP in 1986, 'Appetite' in 1987, 'GN'R Lies' in 1988, and were working on a new album for 1989, which then became two albums and didn't appear until '91. However, they still released the studio versions of "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" and "Civil War" (with Adler on drums for both) in 1990. If everyone's on the same page , I think the band can write, record, and have a new album out within 9-12 months.

  10. I really don't want the next official Guns N' Roses release to be 'Use Your Illusion: Locked N' Loaded Edition' in 2021.

I like the lineup of this band, and I think guys like Fortus and Ferrer, who probably didn't make much money from Chinese Democracy, deserve an opportunity to earn substantially more with a new record. Having Slash and Duff back playing on a new Guns record almost guarantees triple the sales of Chinese Democracy.

  11. I'm a little more optimistic, I do believe there will be new Guns N' Roses music. Can't really imagine Slash and Duff being back in GN'R without wanting to record new material. When that might be is the bigger question.

I also tend to think that when a new Guns N' Roses record does arrive with a supporting tour, it will probably mark the end of the band when it's over.

My oldest son, who turns 27 on July 14th, is in Russia this week. He and his fiancee like to travel, and they were at the World Cup semifinal today. He wants to see the show, and probably will. I told him to be on the lookout for a pop-up shop that may have merchandise exclusive to the show (in other words, I hope he picks up something for his old man :) )

  13. I apologize if this already has a thread, or has been covered.

A tweet sent by GN'R manager Fernando Lebeis around the time of the Appetite remaster announcement seems to indicate that one of the Locked N' Loaded box sets may have a "golden ticket", or as he phrased it, a "golden opportunity". Something right out of Willy Wonka. There's a woman/superfan who I've chatted with on both Facebook and You Tube who says it is absolutely true, though aside from Fernando's somewhat unspecific tweet, there's been no confirmation from the band, or Universal music, that I know of.

I went through my Locked N' Loaded set pretty thoroughly (found the hidden cassette), but I didn't find any golden ticket. Obviously, the odds would be 1 in 10,000 that it was in my box, if it actually exists at all. But I didn't want to take the shrink wrap off any of my vinyls, nor open up the case with the book, as I have a Super Deluxe Edition that I did open, and it's the same thing. So, I don't know if it could possibly be something stashed in one of the vinyls that would require opening, or within the envelope packaged with the book...if not in my Locked N' Loaded box, then someone else's?

Has anyone heard about this "golden ticket", whether it really exists, and if it's already been discovered?

That note Axl hits at 3:43 is incredible!

But otherwise this version was meh. Haha the quality didn’t seem as good as the other ones although I’m a fan of the shorter version.

Just wanted a thread for Axl’s note here

It's always been my favorite version. First heard it 30 years ago on a Japanese import cassette (upgraded to the CD a few years ago). The cassette had that plus the versions of It's So Easy and Whole Lotta Rosie from the same Marquee show that are also on the new AFD remaster. It also had the "live, but not really" versions of Move To The City (the version also on GN'R Lies) and Shadow Of Your Love. They threw in the studio version of Sweet Child O' Mine as well.

This is the Japanese import I speak of. Paid around $38 for a used copy on Ebay four or five years ago.

  15. I think so much of it has to do with Slash being clean, but he was simply awesome when I saw the band in July 2016. My favorite parts of the show were the riffs he was laying down prior to "Double Talkin' Jive", and the outro of "Layla" that leads into "November Rain".

I also think that Axl has a way of bringing out the best in Slash. I'm not sure what it is, but I am a fan of very little of Slash's work outside GN'R. I withheld from labeling him as a guitar "god" until the show two years ago. He was out there looking like he had something to prove, and he delivered.

Yes, he's better now than he was in the 90's.

  16. Pros:

Seeing Axl and Slash sharing a stage again. I never would have believed it, but then I saw the You Tube clip in 2015 where Slash said he and Axl were talking to each other again, and I got the feeling a reunion was possible.

Slash has become a fucking monster of a guitarist. Axl has always seemed to bring out the best in him, and it's probably extra motivation that he's part of a messy divorce, but Slash has, in my eyes, finally become the guitar god he always had the talent for.

Not the original GN'R, but a talented lineup that hopefully get the chance to record new music together. I can call this current lineup Guns N' Roses, and not have any reservations about it.

    Cons:

The tour's gone on for a little too long. Axl's voice needs rest. I understand there's still demand for the band to hit countries they haven't been to yet, but Axl is sounding really rough at times, and it puts the future of new music at risk if his voice goes completely.

Merchandise prices. Not just at the shows, but on the website as well. Though, in some ways, the fact that the band finally has a reputable website that ships your merchandise in a timely fashion is a big PRO. Got my Locked N' Loaded set on June 29th, when I was supposed to.

The performance people are calling "brilliant" from today.

How he sounded 2 years ago:

    But nah, everything is fine.

It's coming up on two years when I saw them in Foxboro, MA. I actually saw the 2nd show on 7/20, it was the first time the band had done back to back nights since the tour began. Axl sounded really good, considering he'd done a show the night before.

Maybe Axl saw the writing on the wall, and realized Father Time was not going to be kind to his voice. Get a couple of the original guys back, add a female keyboardist who can sing backup vocals, go out and try to make amends for years of bad behavior. Some nights he has a little bit of old mojo, other nights he struggles. Obviously, you can't expect a 56 year old man to be 25 again. You just hope he's taking care of his vocal chords as best he can, and hope he can give you 60-70% of what he used to be.

In the meantime, get some new music out with the 56 year old vocals of Axl Rose, so those songs can replace some of the older material that puts such a strain on his voice.
