im in australia and cant seem to find it on itunes, spotify or youtube music. Are we sure its out here? Haha

It now appears to have been removed. I was streaming it via Apple Music, and it’s no longer available to stream. My guess is it was accidentally unlocked for streaming in Australia (though I don’t know why), but it’s since been removed.

It'll probably be out on Friday for everyone I guess.

@metallex78 and @monkeychow both have heard it and @Gibbo all say the Mix Blows away anything by GNR. so yeah, Australia has it and we do not.

Yeah, it’s odd that us here in Australia can listen to it (I’m listening via Apple Music), and the rest of the world can’t.

My thoughts are mixed on it, because I’m comparing it to the awesome live version that Blues Ball played back in the late 90’s, and by comparison it falls short. But that doesn’t mean it’s bad. I was just expecting something more like that.

Slash’s guitars on this feel like they need more gain, and more weight. But like Killing Floor, he does have some tasty lead guitar playing, though it’s much more rooted in the blues sound than the big fuck off heavy rock sound. Which I guess is what Slash is going for.

Chris Stapleton delivers an understated laidback vocal, which again, is different to the way Teddy Zigzag Big Bag sang with Blues Ball (which I prefer), but I otherwise can’t fault him.

Overall, it’s good, when I was hoping for great. But maybe others will feel differently when they hear it.

  3. Slash said at the end of 2022, that they'll do one more US Summer 2023 tour, then focus on writing/recording a new GN’R album. Well, that’s come and gone, with nothing further said or confirmed, and now both Slash and Duff are busy doing their solo stuff well into 2024, with talk of another SMKC album late this year or for 2025.

They can keep stringing us along, but we’re probably never getting a new GN’R album.

Even though it’s a covers album, seeing how easy and professionally Slash is able to promote and actually release an album, just proves how stupid it makes GN’R look, all things considered… :D

  4. Since seeing Slash live in Sydney recently, I’ve revisited the 4 album, and I’m liking (even loving) it way more than when it first came out. Something about hearing the songs played live, has given me a much greater appreciation of them.

I’d even go as far as saying that 4 is a really great album, when I mostly thought it was a bit meh, outside of the opening track and Fill My World.

not that I fault Slash for this, but it would have been better imo if he presented this project from the start as a cover album.

I wonder what Slash can bring to old blues tunes. it's one thing when The Stones do it for example, it's another when a rock guy like Slash does it.

even guys like Clapton and his Robert Johnson cover project kinda make more sense cause he's also a blues player or when Ace did the Origins Volume 1 and 2 covering mostly old rock tunes, again in his genre.

this is kinda like Slash's blues ball in studio with guest singers.

would have been much more exciting to have Slash just do a second Slash and friends album imho or just a solo record with one good singer other than Myles. I think it makes it more cohesive and flows better when a guitar player that doesn't sing only picks 1 or 2 singers and lets the material do most of the heavy lifting.

Slash should do whatever he chooses to do and it's still going to be probably better than nothing. I was just hoping he finally did something a little bit more ambitious.

It’s pretty hard to judge since we haven’t heard any of it yet. And really, Slash has said next to nothing about it, so as not to overhype it. So I don’t know what you were expecting?

  6. My wife got me a ticket for Saturday’s show in Sydney after I’d been unsure about going, and now I’m pretty psyched about it. SMKC are a solid band and always put on a good show. I’m just hoping Slash gets the Don’t Damn Me solo right instead of just noodling it

  7. Can I just say how awesome it is that Don’t Damn Me has finally been played?!

Don't Damn Me is one of the holy grails of GN’R songs I’ve wanted to hear live, and Slash is doing it smart playing it with SMKC, a tight professional band that won’t fuck it up like you know GN’R would…

Great to see Perfect Crime and Bad Apples as alternates in that space too.

It's hilarious how some of the fans can take social media posts so serious.

It’s hilarious how the band can continue to lead fans on by saying they’re doing something “special”, then don’t.

Other bands don’t do this to their fans, but when GN’R do, it’s always the fans fault not the band.

Should they just say that it's going to be an abbreviated festival set and everyone not there are going to hate it? The post right above yours was from a person at the show who called it an 'amazing experience' and got tears from a song they really wanted to hear. That sounds like a pretty special experience for that person.

That’s all good and fine. And I’m glad they had their own personal “special” experience. But to put it out there to social media that they’re doing something “special” and then the show is the same as every other show, that’s misleading is it not?

My headcanon is that it’s a homage to the muddy production of the first album, but I’m probably wrong.

The first album might be raw, but it’s not distorted to fuck like this shit is.

Well we know that the UYI lineup recorded the song at some point in the early 90s and I recall Finck saying that he tailored his solo “to a version.”

I never heard that. I only ever read in interviews that it was an Axl solo piece dating back to when he was quoted about in magazines in 1994.
