Wolfmother split up

Following rumours that the band had fallen out, Australian three-piece Wolfmother have issued a statement confirming that they have split up.

In the statement the band's record label, Universal Music Australia, said that their split was down to "longstanding frictions".

As previously reported on NME.COM, Wolfmother played a fraught headline set at the Splendour In The Grass festival on Sunday (August 3) in Byron Bay Australia, after which their manager said a statement about the band's status would be released soon.

Since then a press release from Universal Music Australia explained that bassist/keyboardist Chris Ross decided to leave the band "due to irreconcilable personal and musical differences" immediately following the performance.

The statement went on to explain that after Ross left the band drummer Myles Heskett decided he would rather leave Wolfmother than continue as part of a new line-up.

The duo have been writing songs together and, according to the statement, "plan to focus their energies on that new project in the future".

Frontman Andrew Stockdale, however, will continue under the Wolfmother moniker, and will be looking for new musicians to complete the band's line-up and begin work on a new album before the end of the year.

The statement finished asking fans to understand the reasons behind the split.

It read: "Andrew Stockdale, Myles Heskett and Chris Ross will make no public statements at this time except to say that they are each really looking forward to making their new music over the years ahead.

"In the meantime they simply ask all Wolfmother fans to please understand that in spite of their best efforts over a long period of time, they just could not find a harmonious way to work together and that has lead to the decisions announced today."

Mike Patton sums up Wolfmother

He said he was doing a 60's Italian music record, and then went "What year are we in"?

:rofl-lol:

I just listened to a song of theirs on YouTube (first time I hear them) and wasn't bad. Still, it wasn't really good either....

Taken a bit out of context, though. Patton experiments with retro sounds but combines them with new, fresh styles. He was working with an Italian orchestra because he was scoring a retro film noir movie with foreign influences and wanted to recreate a certain sound. A Perfect Place has a lot of orchestra stuff going on, but there's also vocal-only tracks and other bizarre shit on that album. His point was that Wolfmother, for all practical purposes, is recycling older styles while providing nothing new to the mix. They're not doing anything very creative beyond copying another era's sound. Patton utilized Italian orchestras on his record but that's not quite the same thing.

I'm not a huge Patton fanboy (some music geeks think he's God because of his wide range of influences and vocal abilities and the people he's worked with, like John Zorn), but the worst of Patton's output is far better than anything Wolfmother's done.

I lold, but then read ER's comment...Ive not heard Pattons stuff (PM anyone? :D), so I can't say yay or nay, but I do like Wolfmother. Maybe its because I dont have any Sabbath albums, only 1 AC/DC and 1 LZ album, I could go on. Maybe its because I wasnt around int he 70s.

Their next record was supposed to be epic though.

Shame.

The frontman of Wolfmother is pulling an Axl Rose and continuing on with the band name and finding a new drummer and bassist. It's more understandable when you have a big, long-standing, established band, but to do this after only one album? Just do a solo album.

My exact words to my mother!

She didn't have a clue what I was on about.

you 80's metal head.

Dude, Patton is anything but an '80s metal head.

Like I said before, I'm not as avid a Patton fan as some are, but if you were to call Patton a "metal head" to some of his fans they'd probably castrate you. Faith No More certainly had their heavy moments, but nothing on Mr. Bungle, Fantomas, Peeping Tom or Tomahawk can be so easily classified; nor can his work with artists like John Zorn. Naked City is a far cry from heavy metal in any way, shape or form.
