Sonisphere UK Cancelled Due To Poor Ticket Sales

Seriously? Wow. You'd think that'd be enough bands for it to sell well. How much were tickets going for?

Standard prices for a weekend festival. Around £170 I think.

Anyway, I have always felt that since Sonisphere came along that the festival scene has been saturated. Student/indie types hit Reading/Leeds. Download has always been for the real metal types. Glastonbury is Glastonbury. Then you have IoW, V festival etc. It's hard to see what Sonisphere brought apart from being a lesser Download. And especially with Download having such a strong lineup this year it was always gonna be difficult.

Anyway, Mr. Rose would've changed it all I'm sure ;)

The fact that they had them all over Europe, on the same scale as Download. That being said, they had one great year of lineups (2010), and other than a couple one-off good ones last year (UK and Italy namely), they've been pretty shit.

Download's been a tradition in the UK for far longer though, it's pretty much an institution... Sonisphere wasn't bringing competition of the calibre it took to topple Download (and that's with Download line-ups being significantly poorer in recent years than they once were, excepting this year.)

I don't disagree. In fact, I never really saw the point in having a UK Sonisphere, because it really does seem like a second-rate Download.
