ohlovelyrita Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 (edited) "CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The 295 artists, bands and music industry luminaries in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will get some new neighbors in April. The Rock Hall on Wednesday released the names of the 16 artist and performer nominees for the Class of 2014. About 600 people – current inductees, historians, critics and music industry pros – will decide which five to seven of the 16 will make it. On top of that, the Rock Hall will induct at least one and possibly two nonperformer Ahmet Ertegun Lifetime Achievement Award winners, as well. Here are the bands and performers the pros – and fans – will be voting on, courtesy of biographical information provided by the Rock Hall:Those 600 will get some help from fans, too. The Rock Hall once again will conduct online fan polls via rockhall.com/vote,rollingstone.com and usatoday.com to determine which five artists will earn spots on a “fan ballot.’’ That ballot will be submitted as a single ballot alongside the rest. And while it may be a "one fan, one vote'' sort of thing, it's key to note that some of the bigger winners on the 2013 poll are back on the ballot this year. The Paul Butterfield Blues Band. Prior nomination: 2013. The band, which made its name on Butterfield’s harp and guitarist Mike Bloomfield’s leads, fused Chicago blues and rock ‘n’ roll in a way that can’t – and shouldn’t be -- undone. At the 1965 Newport Folk Festival, Bob Dylan tapped the band’s rhythm section – bassist Jerome Arnold and drummer Sam Lay – to make his electric debut." http://www.cleveland.com/popmusic/index.ssf/2013/10/rock_and_roll_hall_of_fame_cla.html Edited December 17, 2013 by ohlovelyrita Quote

Facekicker Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 NWA, Nirvana, Deep Purple, Chic and Linda Ronstadt should get in. Linda Ronstadt in particular as she is quite ill at the moment and it would be a nice gesture. Quote

Probably before any hip hop act aside from maybe Run DMC.Nirvana, Kiss, Deep Purple. Quote
wfuckinga Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 It should be The Mats, Deep Purple, Yes, KISS and Mötley Crüe imo Quote

Probably before any hip hop act aside from maybe Run DMC.Nirvana, Kiss, Deep Purple.Exactly. What Run DMC did rap as a whole and for its mainstream popularity (along with the Beasties) NWA did for gangsta/hardcore rap. And that ain't even going into the flow on effect of Dre himself with Death Row, Aftermath, Snoop, Eminem, The Chronic, producing, Beats etc. Quote
volcano62 Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 I hope Courtney does something about the remaining Nirvana guys milking Kurt's legacy.Lol NWA Quote
volcano62 Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 Lol NWA? More like lolcano.Look I understand rap and actually don't mind the old acts from the 80's and early 90s but putting NWA in an "organization" that includes Led Zeppelin, Metallica etc...that's laughable. Quote
Johnny Drama Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 Straight Outta Compton (yes they are a one album group but that album is responsible for a lot) stands quite easily next to Lightning, Puppets, Justice, LZ I, II, IV and Physical Graffiti and is probably only second to.Led Zep IV out of that lot for critical acclaim. 2 Quote
Guest Len B'stard Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 The RnR HOF should be destroyed. 2 Quote

Johnny Drama Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 Well I'm a big Led Zeppelin fan and a proper hardcore as fuck Metallica fan so the above is my answer. Quote
The Linguini Occurrence Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 1) Why not make this a fun competition to guess who gets in? How about everybody picks 5 of the nominees they think will get in, and the one who gets the most right wins. 2) NWA will eventually get in, but not this year. You guys are waaaaay underestimating James Todd Smith's groundbreaking contributions to Rap and Hip Hop, I say he gets in first.3) Linda Ronstadt will get in.4) I'll go with Deep Purple, Kiss and Paul Butterfield too.
