Why is male circumcision so common in USA?

He also had to pee out of this little hole, sort of like a vagina, except nothing at all like one.

You do realise women don't pee out of their vaginas, right?

Haha, yes, I'm well aware of that. Hence the "nothing at all like one" part. Prolly should have worded that sentence better, but ah well.

& the females wanted it done as they said it empowered them.

how?

Fuambai Ahmadu

Despite growing up and studying in the United States, Fuambai Ahmadu chose to return to her native Sierra Leone as an adult to be circumcised. At the age of 21, she underwent a traditional initiation ceremony in which her clitoris and labia were cut. Fuambai says circumcision is an essential part of her culture and the experience filled her with pride. She says she doesn’t feel mutilated.

FUAMBAI AHMADU: Ritual, it's a transition from girlhood to womanhood and it's parallel with the male initiation as well where boys are also, you know, they're initiated and they become men. So it's a very big deal, it's an important aspect of ethnic identity as well and because it's associated with women's power and especially so in Sierra Leone.

JENNY BROCKIE: Why power, because in the west it's not associated with power at all, it's quite the opposite?

FUAMBAI AHMADU: Right, and you know I've struggled with that over the years as well to understand sort of western perceptions of the practice. Misunderstandings of the practice because in Sierra Leone I think in many other parts of Africa where these operations take place, it is very much associated with women's power and women's spheres of influence. In Sierra Leone no men are allowed to even ask questions about this operation, just like women would not interfere in men's initiation and men's rituals. They have share secret knowledge and experiences and so do women.

I don't understand how this empowers women same as I don't understand their wearing of the burqua is empowering to some women. I guess it's a cultural thing we don't understand as it's not normal practice here in western countries.

im not surprised she can't explain how it "empowers" her. kind of reminds me "a bird born in a cage thinks flying is an illness"

When her clit is removed she can't become sexually aroused therefore she doesn't like having sex. So, she isn't interested in sex which means she has no use for men. This is where she finds empowerment. Pretty sick huh?

It is made to avoid that sexual pleasure and therefore women don't feel tempted to have sex with other men. it's a way of controlling their will. But the worst thing of it is that it doesn't even work. I mean, women stil have their brains and they still can fall in love and like a person and feel attracted to a person. Hormones are still working too. So they can feel sexually attracted to men. She isn't interested in sex? Nah, she went under a procedure to not enjoy sexual intercouse, which is different.

I am not sure I understand where you say she finds the empowerment. She is not interested in sex so she has no use for men? I don't get that. Either it means she is no longer desirable for men or, even more senseless, that the rest of the women are unable of controlling their sexual desire and they are some kind of slaves of it. They see the average Johnny Depp in front of them and they no longer have a will. Like monkeys in heat. Nonsense. In case, I see men more prone to think with their dicks than women with their clits. And still, I don't see anyone chopping their dicks off to get rid of their kryptonite.

She herself can't explain where that empowerment comes from. It only comes from believing so. From believing that's the right thing to do because the tradition says so. Other find empowerment in porno or in making cupcakes. Trying to find an objective logical explanation is illogical.

Edit: As I said, he was an adult, she can do whatever she wants. Imposing it to kids? NO.

They showed us a comparison of cut and uncut penises in health class when I was in ninth grade. The uncut one just looked really strange to me, just a bunch of useless extra skin. Kinda like the penis version of a really fat person. Cut looks more normal to me, but then again, I might be a bit biased cause I grew up pissing out of one that was circumcised.

I'm not really sure what my stance on it is though. On one hand, I think men should be given the option to do it when they're older. On the other hand, it seems like it'd be a painful process, so why not get it out of the way, while they're young enough to not remember the pain later on? Of course, you don't know what they'll want later on in their life. And, I don't know if it means much, but I think foreskin restoration is an actual thing these days. How it compares to an original foreskin, I don't know, but still. It's there for ones who want to get it back, I guess.

But then again, I also read about this guy who had his penis burned off when he was being circumcised, cause the doctor used the wrong tool, and his parents let him be used for an experiment or something. Basically they raised him as a girl most of his life to see if nature vs. nurture affected how he would act. He also had to pee out of this little hole, sort of like a vagina, except nothing at all like one. The fact that that happened kinda scares me off of the idea, but I don't know. All I know is, women apparently like cut better, and I don't have to worry about it because it's already been done for me.

Also, on the topic of vaginal mutilation, wouldn't that be more akin to castration than circumcision? I don't know much about the subject, but I thought that if a woman was mutilated down there, she wouldn't have a sex drive or would be in pain whenever she had sex. Like I said though, I don't know much about it, so I'm probably wrong there. My entire post might be wrong, but I was bored and this was the result of that boredom, so there ya go.

Well said. The procedure against women is actually a castration rather than circumcision. They have no sexual feeling at all, sex when it is probably forced on them because they cannot willingly want it of their own accord, is often painful. That's not circumcision, given the fact that the male version takes away none of those sensations, yet male castration does exactly that. I would never refer to the procedure as 'female circumcision' anyway, I think 'female genital mutilation' is far more appropriate.

Wrong.

http://www.womenonwaves.org/en/page/4715/sexual-pleasure-after-female-genital-mutilation

Don't they still produce hormones? Aren't they still human beings with a brain of themselves? Some people find sexual pleasure in being spanking, others get horny licking feet, etc. My point is that sexual arouse and pleasure is not only penetration and "traditional" sex. Yeah, it's a mutilation. Yeah, it's a horrible practice that has its roots in the consideration of women like inferior beings. Yeah, a very important part of their sexuality is damaged forever. But they still can experience love, attraction, desire... and look for ways of fullfilling it. Sadly, in the vast majority of cases, the environment where women have to endure this, nothing of this matters. Women feelings and opinions don't matter.

This is a thread about penises. Get the 'ginas outta here.

So show me yours I'll show you mine. Tool Time! You'll lovett just like Lyle

They don't?

Please tell me you guys are kidding1

We have a urethra, which is connected to the bladder, above the vagina, which is not, except in rare cases called a vesicovaginal fistula.

It is totally new to me that women would prefer the cut version. I have only heard it

here from a couple of persons. That piece of skin is there for a reason.

Hygiene related to it is no issue. When you are dating someone both parties are

usually clean and nice smelling, and hopefully also when one is not dating anyone…

There are some big cultures where it is always cut. In those cultures what gets

promoted heavily of course is the supposed benefits of cutting it and the supposed

disadvantages of not cutting it. There is no culture which would actively promote not

cutting it. We do not cut it, but there is no indoctrination behind it, we just keep it

the way nature intended.

In the same way women now in US and Europe are socialized to shave their legs and

arm pits, women in some cultures are socialized to have their genitals mutilated.

What is now fashionable in US for men is to shave their chest. I kind of understand

shaving if one has a rug from head to toe, but having some chest hair is masculine.

I guess it is the same thing with circumcision; it is now fashionable in US in some

circles and a custom promoted there by some cultures.

maybe the tradition used to have sense when most Muslim men took multiple wives. so they just thought it was a good idea to mutilate them to avoid that awkward moment, when all 4 of your wives want to have sex at the same time.

now when it's quite rare to have more than one wife the tradition is insensate cruelty.

In the same way women now in US and Europe are socialized to shave their legs and

arm pits, women in some cultures are socialized to have their genitals mutilated.
