Do you believe in ghosts?

Before it was re-founded as a Viking settlement, York was called Eburacum and was probably the most important Roman military base in Britain - the Legio VI were stationed there. The Minster stands on top of where the Roman fort was. Constantine the Great, a very important figure in Christianity, found out he was Roman Emperor while stationed in York - there is a (modern) statue of him outside the Minster. The Yorkshire Museum has an invaluable display of gravestones, trinkets and military accoutrements. There is also the remains of a Roman bath house which are attached to a pub, appropriately called, 'The Roman Bath'. Both are worth seeing.
