dobadog
So far most of the drumming on the new GnR tracks has sounded like a drum machine.I really hope the drumming situation improves with the final released album....and before you say 'they're only demos, not the real thing...' - I listend to 'The Blues' and 'Madagascar' lastnight, and both those songs, while featuring drumming by a drummer, the drum patterns seem basic and slow. The drumming seems to have taken a back seat when compared to older GnR material. Double Talkin Jive, You Could be Mine both contain really good drumming. Even It's so Easy and Paradise City have good drumming on them.Hearing 'The Blues' again lastnight, the song sounds no where near as complex as i had thought it to be. There Was a Time and Better sound so much better, i'm really liking these 2 new songs.
Odysseus2889
it sounds like a drum machine because it is a drum machine...wes said that when he first told us about the demos. dont worry im sure were in good hands with Brain, hes really good. I remember seeing Matt Sorum do a mad mad solo that was very entertaining to watch live at The National Bowl/UK back in 1993
Son Of A Gun
Look at some Asian and European bootlegs of what drumming brain did like on It 's So Easy, You Could Be Mine, Rhiad And The Bedouins & maybe even Rocket Queen, this guy is really awesome and happens to be my favourite person on Gn'R crew (well after considering Axl first before any other)
Leigh-Rok!
I think Axl may have used a drum machine to simulate the beat so he can work on the songs without needed people there to play. Once he's happy with it, Brain comes in, does his shit and the song's complete. Axl's a consummate perfectionist... I bet he even has a guitar machine!Look at some Asian and European bootlegs of what drumming brain did like on It 's So Easy, You Could Be Mine, Rhiad And The Bedouins & maybe even Rocket Queen, this guy is really awesome and happens to be my favourite person on Gn'R crew (well after considering Axl first before any other)Agreed, Brain does good things with the older stuff. Rick
Brain is a lot more advanced player than Sorum or Adler can dream of.Agreed. He still manages to have a really raw sound aswell. As i said in the VR section, using real drums on early demos has virtually no advantages. Using a drum machine makes much more sense.R. Longpig
I agree with the majority here - I think he's a great drummer and the best GnR have ever had.Drums don't have to be in your face all the time in every song to be important or great, they have to fit the song and I think he acheives this well.I can't wait to hear his drumming on the last 3 minutes of There Was A Time!LP
byeaxlhiaxl
im sorry but the guy is shit!! i only have rock in rio 2001 to judge from and that video and ive got to say i could do better, the video is pretty standard stuff and in rock rio it was pretty standard but he still managed to fuck up every song especially you could be mine , he played the old songs really bad, the new ones though he played betterwhether it wa down to not enough practice with the old one or not i thought he really let the new GNR down heavilyedit: i have yet to hear the leaked tracks as i would rather hear the album properly for the first time when its released so i dont know what his drumming is like on those songs Edited February 27, 2006 by byeaxlhiaxl

evil_l
The drumming situation is what I am least worried about with new guns. I loved everything he's played before and I really think he will do more than justice to songs. Compared to Adler and Sorum he are miles ahead of them skillwise atleast. That's not a diss to Steven's drumming, it's just a fact.. Brain is on a higer level. He also adds his own feel a few times... do you think to be a good drummer he should match note for note what Steven did on record? tommybones
you have to remember that Steven is a really really really poor drummer. the sound he gets is kinda cool but thats just the way its miked and mixed. everything he plays is basic and easy. Slash has said he had to be tapping his foot the whole time just to get the guy to stay in time

Bucketslash
i hate sorum's drummingi can't stand iti'd rather listen to 3 million robin finck improisations, 3,000 paul huge rythm guitar songs, 300 different versions of silkworms and my world then listen to sorum for longer than i have to on uyi....(even the drum machine on my world is better)lemme give you whysorum has the amazing abilitybecause he wasn't so fucked on drugs like addler,he could keep timebut too bad his drumming is as inspiring as male gay pornsure he can change times decentlybut he played the same stupid shit pattern the whole timelive concerts it's no differentinfact if you could karaoke sorum's drumming on uyi, other than time differences, there wuld be no differenceand because of this inept ability to have the most boring drumming in the world,he can play it live too, which kills live stuffhell civil war's drumming is the best drumming on uyialso down on the farm with addler kicks sorum down to nothingand addler didn't even know the songin my opinion,2 things are true1.buckethead has more feeling than matt2.brain's bettersure, brain has some faults*cough*drumming way too heavy on hob 2001 nr*cough*but he's only human and actually makes mistakes... W. Axl Kev
I also noticed as soon as ''Better'' started that it was a drum machine. I remembered them being on ''Madagascar'' and ''The Blues''. But to be honest I was more interested in hearing how Axl sounded. I actually like the drum machine on the new songs. It sounds pretty good. I think the drumming will be faster on ''IRS'' when it is studio recorded.
