jaypayton Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 What is the real story behind the Days of Thunder version of "Knockin On heaven's Door'........Is it different than the Illusion version or the same track with a couple of different samples, etc?
Tyler Drama Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 I'm sorry but you lost me there. So you're saying there might be similarities between the Days of Thunder cover of a Guns N' Roses cover of a Bob Dylan original? Days of Thunder is a movie.
jaypayton Posted December 12, 2006 Author Posted December 12, 2006 No, GNR recorded 'Heaven's Door' for the tom cruise movie days of thunder in 1990.........I have heard that it is a different version than the one that made the Illusion albums.....Just looking for clarification to make sure its two different versions or the same as the illusion albums
Estranged Reality Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 There are some extra verses and extra telephone babblings from Axl ("It wasn't their fault"...etc.). It was the first song Matt Sorum played drums on with the band - it was recorded in late 1990 while Steven was still in the band but he was on the verge of being fired and they were testing out new drummers. It sounds very much the same as the UYI II version, I think. Some people try to claim it's different but if the extra "Axl talk" in the middle of the song wasn't there, I probably wouldn't notice any differences. Vocals and instruments are almost identical.

That's really the only difference. Maybe a few less backing vocals. Its nothing special if you never hear it.
jaypayton Posted December 12, 2006 Author Posted December 12, 2006 so basically it was recorded two different times? or is it the same vocal track

Songbird Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 I don't think I've ever heard it. I don't remember hearing it in the movie.

artfromtex Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 there's also a third studio version on the budget "Use Your Illusion" single disc, right? isn't that version void of all the phone banter?
