Val22
Wasn't born yet, but I know Elvis was huge back then.Probably Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr.Little Richard too. I know rock and roll started before the 60's and people were shocked! lol What a joke!Anyway, most of those artists who began in the 1950's and before helped influence bands like The Beatles and the Rolling Stones, so I thank them for that. dontdamnmeuyi2015
I remember watching shows about rock and roll and the 50's.Whenever Elvis was filmed he was filmed from the waist up. He moved his hips and legs and some straight laced people were shocked by it.Elvis was also filmed from the waist up on the Ed Sullivan show and that was in the 60's.Let's face it, rock and roll has been from the start sexually and raw and back then some people didn't want to see that.I find it funny that it's been like what over 70's years and rock is still around and for some people it's still shocking. I find that awesome.
uncivil war
As far as 50's music goes, Buddy Holly pretty much sums it up for me. The man was a genius as far as I'm concerned, and he was way ahead of his time. I recently listened to his complete collected works (including demo's and alt. takes), some 200 odd tracks. Awesome stuff.
username
Robert Johnson, John Lee Hooker, Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters, BB King, Miles Davis, Leadbelly, Woody Guthrie, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong... Really, there's SO much great pre-1960 music out there!
