Some media outlets are reporting that there are huge holes in their story and that they may have done it for publicity/a laugh, which seems ridiculous. In rugby the highest salary ever is 1.6m€ and it's pretty much downfall from there. They would never get that money if it wasn't popular. If the former, I don't see how they could be laughing at Great Britain since Britain's performance has escalated unprecedentedly since 1996; it has indeed been one of the most dramatic turn around in sporting history and an impressive achievement given Britain's population ratio. (If there was a year America, or any country, would have laughed at Great Britain it would be 1996 when they achieved a pathetic single gold!.)
