I remember waiting for the album for years, listening to the leaks over and over. When the release day came, I went to a local supermarket and picked up a copy of the shelf. I felt deflated. I loved the songs, but the album should’ve come out in 2006. I put the album back on the shelf and left the store. Then I got home and the copy I’d pre-ordered online was waiting for me on my doorstep I love the record.

11/02/23 - Los Angeles, CA - The Hollywood Bowl NIGHT 2

Is the show on Sunday the last of the tour? -
Ok so I’ve listened to both tracks probably around 50 times since Friday. I’m now of the firm belief that Monsters is in fact the much fabled Soul Monster. Axl isn’t singing ‘oh, but it’s over now’ during the choruses; it’s actually ‘oh, but its soul burns out.’ This coupled with the monsters in the song lyrics and, well…you get the picture. I also think that the band decided to release Soul Monster because of the cellphone clip from the Vienna aftershow party. We all thought that was The General. Can you imagine if only The General was released? Don’t get me wrong - I love the track. But, fans would have been like…WTF, this isn’t what we were expecting/hoping for. Of course, the natural conclusion is that the cellphone clip was actually Soul Monster and not The General. Kudos to GnR for doing this.

Absolutely love both songs. After taking an initial preference to Monsters, The General is also now really growing on me (can’t believe I’m actually typing that I’ve heard these songs after nearly 20 years of waiting!). Ive just re-listened to what we thought was The General at the Vienna aftershow party. I have to say that version sounds much heavier/meaner. The guitar parts before Axl’s screaming section are sublime. Don’t get me wrong, I’m very happy that we got these songs - kind of like an end of an era/closure. With that said, I would give ANYTHING to hear Monsters with Bucket and Finck.
