  1. For years, I thought his nickname was "Huge", as in "very large" and I couldn't really work out why because he seemed to be of a pretty average height and build. It was only recently that I realised that it's pronounced "HyooGee" and now I'm not sure if I'm more or less confused because I've no idea what that even means.

    Agreed.

I don’t think there has ever been a funnier moment in US Presidential politics than that press conference.  It was a calamity of unforced errors. There were moments I literally had tears when thinking about the moment they realized they couldn’t book the four seasons hotel and instead went with, what they thought, the next best thing: a run down landscaping business situated between a dildo shop and a crematorium.

    It was glorious.

It so elegantly epitomised the Trump presidency in a single event - make an absolutely howling error, and then rather than admit it and try to put it right, double down and claim that "Of course we wanted to hold a press conference in a hitherto unheard-of garden centre rather than a four star hotel".

As @Coma16 says, the best political satirists couldn't have written it. I also remember being in tears laughing.

    Poor Rudy.

Suspended from practicing law, on the brink of bankruptcy, a laughing stock, the biggest target in Borat 2, and now hung out to dry by the man he worked so hard for.

    His kids must be proud.

I will be forever grateful to him for the sublime moment of comedy that was Four Seasons Total Landscaping.

  4. Originally, we had five actors playing the same character in one timeline before the Craig reboot, do you think with any new actor coming in, they'll carry on the Craig timeline or reboot that too? It might get a bit tiresome after the third continuity, like, how many times do you want to retell the story of this guy's life?

These are very fair points. Chinese Democracy is pretty underrated in some ways. Your comment about the 2010 live performances is pretty spot on too. If you closed your eyes, he sounded like 1991-1992 raspy voice Axl...even on the most demanding songs. If Slash was by his side, there would have been rave reviews from a lot of people.

Yeah. Favorable reviews are guaranteed now, especially by certain outlets like Classic Rock and Kerrang (both of which used to trash Axl in the past). Classic Rock had a positive review of the Hershey show a few days ago.

Yeah, it's absolute horseshit and throws any notion that GN'R were judged objectively on the quality of their shows and releases when Slash and Duff weren't in the band out of the window.

They sounded significantly better in 2010 than they do nowadays in a live environment, and Chinese Democracy has many songs that are much better than Silkworms (my subjective opinion, obviously, but I don't think it's baseless). The positive PR based just on who is standing up there, rather than what they're doing, is pretty blatant.

I think that's a big part of why I wanted the CD-era line-up to succeed so much, I felt like everyone from the reviewers, to the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame with their bullshit decision not to induct Tommy, Richard, Robin, Ron, Brain, Frank, Chris, despite inducting Rob Trujillo with Metallica and Josh Klinghoffer with the Chilis, to their own manager in Irving Azoff were willing them to fail.

That's why I was so pissed off when the reunion happened. It felt like those bastards had won.

Remember how cynical everyone was around here after the first shows in 2009?! Then 2010 turned out to be one of the best yet.

Umm, no... the 2009 Japan shows were probably the most expansive, unpredictable and exciting of this century, and the performances were unreal (apart from maybe Prostitute, which Axl hadn't really worked out how to sing live yet). Everyone was HYPED as far as I can remember.

  7. I'd just like to clarify, it's not the whole UK that's opened up fully today - it's England. I'm quite grateful that in Scotland we're taking a more cautious approach.

In your case I would agree with that but we have a much higher rate of vaccination here than most countries so I think it's about time from the perspective of the UK.

I'm no expert, but I think the biggest concern being expressed by senior medics about opening up fully without being further along the road with regard to vaccination is the development of vaccine-resistant strains that could effectively render all the progress made to date completely moot:

"The UK government’s decision to end all covid-19 restrictions in England on 19 July has been branded “dangerous and premature” by a group of 122 scientists and doctors.

Their letter to the Lancet urges the government to delay complete reopening until everyone, including adolescents, has been offered vaccination and until mitigation measures such as adequate ventilation and spacing are in place in schools.1

The letter was a follow-up to the “John Snow memo,” written in October 2020 in response to the Great Barrington declaration that advocated a herd immunity approach.234

The signatories to the latest letter, which include the former chief scientific adviser and chair of independent Scientific and Advisory Group for Emergencies, David King, and the BMA’s chair of council, Chaand Nagpaul, said the government was embarking on a dangerous and unethical experiment."

My heart is broken after pulling back and than extra time. Brekalo is not right back. Some classical sub mistakes. But nevertheless great comeback.

I was gutted when you put us out, but I was definitely cheering on Croatia tonight.

Sad to see Barišić get so little game time over the course of the tournament. If he's injured then I hope it's not too serious. He's currently my favourite player at Rangers - if you can get him to contribute to the national team what he offers us in domestic and European competition, you'll have an absolute superstar on your hands, he provides so many quality crosses, (many of which become assists) and great free kicks (many of which become goals).

I didn’t. I’ve got them all but just never had chance to play it. My Metroid career is limited to Super Metroid and the first Prime thus far. I’m not sure whether I like the look of Dread or not. Something about the visual style kinda looks off without the old style pixel art.

You're an emulator man, right? Get yourself a copy of Fusion, I don't think you'll regret it! It's still in the pixel art style of Super too!

I loved the visual style of Super and Fusion, but I also really dug the previous Metroid game (a remake of Metroid II) made by the developers of Dread, Mercury Steam. It was on the 3DS and the world was absolutely bursting with life and depth, so I'm looking forward to seeing what they can do with the Switch's hardware.
