Here's a list of people who've said in interviews that an album is coming when they get back to touring. This list dates back to 2002,at the very least:

    Axl

    Fortus

    Stinson

    Dizzy

    Bumblefoot

    Duff

    Slash

    You forgot Beta and Fernando!

I just love how this thread keeps being timeless!

If we come back here in 2050 maybe someone will be discussing a source revealing that "The Blues" was changed to "Street of Dreams" because now "The Blues" will be a new song to be featured on their 11th EP. A kind of a bluesy AFD vibe "November Rain" type of opus!

I couldn't agree more. Imagine a solo project with Bucket and Brain with Axl on a CD or 2. That is how CD 1-3 should have been, largely.

Am I the only one that just figure it out that in the beginning of Shackler's Reevenge the guitar emulates chicken noises?

Where was I all this time that I didn't even notice this?

It's hopeless because he doesn't release music.

If he released an album, then fair enough, there is something to discuss.

I don't think he will, because he didn't do enough songs.

SoulMonster/Sweersea etc think he did do the songs, and presumably think he will release them.

I think we all are hard to admit that. That we are expecting something great, huge, amazing, but there's nothing.

I think what we have is what it is inside those 2019 leaks! And that's it, the rest is instrumental experimentation.

If I'm wrong I guess I'll never understand why not released, it feels like you won the lottery, but never went to the bank to cash the money, you just keep looking at the numbers!

If there's music, it does not make sense at all.

  4. Guys, it is hopless, we can keep debating for years to come (as we are since 2008 and before that) and it will never be enough, the songs will never be "that good" or anything.

The band waited too much, people started to expect too much, it is hopless.

We will always be complaining here, and that's why I think Metallica was smarter and kind to their fans.

Even with Load, Reload, Lulu, St. Anger not being good records, they were consistent, their fans are full!

If only those snakepit songs were made into a GNR record...

If only they had released those remixed ChiDem songs...

    If only...

Yeah, I am not one of those who rave about a song I haven't heard yet. I suppose it could be as bad as the worst from Chinese Democracy or as great as the best, which is a pretty wide fucking range

I don't get it! And I don't understand how a super band like the GNR formations from 97 to 99 and then the GNR from 2001 to 2006 was not able to come up with at least 30+ cool songs and that we all have heard all that was left, but THE GENERAL.

    It does not make sense!

And to me, the best GNR leak was AS IT BEGAN, it is a shame this for sure will never be reworked or released.

But I still have faith on a CRASH DIET reworked version for the UYI Boxset.

It is absolutely not implausible that DJ was hired in 2009 for his song-writing capacity. Many fans would likely agree that is the most appealing explanation. And DJ himself, at some point, suggested that to be the case. Still, right after the release of Chinese Democracy, Axl's focus was on the planned "double" album, so it seems unlikely that just a few months later, Axl had discarded that idea and decided to go for writing a new album from the bottoms-up. A more likely explanation, in my opinion, is that Axl thought about the future and considered DJ as an asset for song-writing later on. Additionally, it was always important to Axl that all players were represented on an album, and he possibly thought it would be easier to include DJ somehow based on DJ's proven track-record of writing music.

Interestingly, by 2010-2011 it is harder to assess what Axl's plans were. His radio silence means we don't know much what his plans were. DJ would frequently talk about the music Axl had that wasn't recorded, and how he looked forward to writing with Axl. DJ started writing (presumably on his own), resulting in Ballad Of Death and Mi Amor, but it doesn't seem like Axl wanted to work with this. Does this mean he still wanted the next record to just be material from the CD sessions? Who knows?

As for how much material existed after the release of CD: likely at least one complete record of material (confirmed by multiple sources), but not entirely finished. Tommy would say that at least some songs missed vocals and final mixing. But Tommy hadn't heard the songs since the recording sessions prior to the release of CD and himself concluded that Axl might have finished these. So the material seems to have been there. At least it would be less work to finish them than to write new songs.

Another thing that can be gleaned from contemporary interviews, is that there was significant push to write new songs from within the band. New guys without writing credits, Bumblefoot and DJ, obviously wanted the band to focus on new music rather than old material where at best they could hope to have some parts tacked on. Especially Bumblefoot was really vocal about this in interviews. Whether this influenced Axl or not, is impossible to say, but in late 2011 it seems like the decision had been made to convene after touring to write. Whether that implies entirely new songs, re-write existing material, or just write a couple new songs so DJ and Bumbles got writing credit, is unknown to me.

I just wonder "if" or "when" THE GENERAL gets released if it will be all that.

Nobody did listen to the song, we only have Baz's ultra-hyped description of the song and we all know that Sebastian is like a kid in a candy store when talking rock or metal, the dude still headbangs to the "Smoke On The Water" riff like if it was the 70s.

What if the song is not that good and we're just hyped about a cool "name" and "kid on a candy store"?

That's fair. The only music related places I went on the internet prior to checking GN'R forums was Elvis and Pink Floyd sites. Elvis had obviously passed away by that point and Floyd was pretty much done as a band. So there wasn't anyone really acting like an insider. So the first time I encountered it was GN'R forums.

I do remember when they had like a MIDI section here, Demon Bell was still though to be GNR, and they had RealPlayer video snippets that took forever to load! This forum was full of memorabilia back in the day. I also liked GNR On Tour a lot!

Back in the day I thought the coolest thing ever was the Rocket Queen Remix made by Sigue Sigue Sputinik with John Corabi (That was when Napster ruled the world kids):

    Time flies!

My lovely girlfriend surprised me today with this very cool photo book by British photographer Justin Thomas.

I didn't know this had been released so I literally flipped out in happiness when I saw it. Thomas happened to take pictures of GNR 4 times between 87 and 92 and this is a black and white collection of the best pics from then.

Specifically, the shows are Marquee 1987 (one of the first two shows, it's not specified which one), Hammersmith 1987, the Freddie Mercury Tribute, and Wembley 1992.

Some of the pics, especially the ones from 1992, are quite famous, while some others are definitely less seen around. Personally, I had never seen many of the Marquee ones before.

There's no text in it except for one page with Justin Thomas sharing memories about the four shows he took pics at.

The size is more or less A5 and it's 36 pages printed on thick glossy paper.

I need to marry this girl.

Like I've wrote in 2007 when I've post the "Sorry" lyrics: believe me when you see it.

I can hear some bits of info.

    Tidbits:

    - HardSkool more likely intended to close the new album.

    - Slash is giving an interview for Rolling Stone Maganize (FR ed).

    - 2022 tour gets a new name.

    You read it here first!

Here is a short review of each song:

ROLL ON 2 U: Nice rnr track, think of "Outta Get Me" but without all that energy and magic. Nice.

FEELIN' IT: Seems like a good rnr single. Finally, a riff. Superb. Gem of the album. Powerful sound (finally!!). Possible brand new single; first brand new unheared song since 2008.

CASINO NIGHT ZONE: First piano driven song of the album. Rapping Axl returns for a few seconds. Maybe, the first GNR song ever to have a "techno" echo. Very short song but my personal fav.

ELVIS: Think of a "Sorry" lil brother. Nice, angry vocals. Darkest song of the album and that cellos are LOUD for a little moment. 7/10 if you ask me.

OMG: Heaviest song of the album. Almost like screamo Rose on steroids. Buckethead guitar in the background???? Powerful.

ATLAS: Filler. Not as happy as "Casino Night Zone" and not even in the league of "Catcher In The Rye". Interesting intro. 5/10 if you ask me. The Sean Beaven mix was much better.

7: Yes. Yes. YES. This is the quality I was waiting for! EPIC SONG. 10/10. Think of a mix between "Circus Maximus", "D Tune", "Curly Shuffle" and "Poison Heart". I MEAN, FREAKIN' REALLY. AXL, WHAT WAS YOU THINKING WHILE YOU DISCARDED THIS SONG FOR "CHINESE DEMOCRACY"?! WHY YOU PUT "SCRAPED" INSTEAD?! Oh, you need serious help, Axl Rose. Tears on my eyes. Really.

ABSURD!: Second filler. Released as a single. I prefer the 1999 vers.

EL HERMANO: If "Absurd!" is the "Scraped" of this album... This is the "Riad N' The Bedouins". Really nice guitars; little vocals. Maybe, it works very fine as an opener (And put "Roll On 2 U" as track 9; switch places). 3:39 of heavy rock. Hm. After all... It's a new song. Who cares?!

GENERAL: Another "Sorry" little brother. I really see "Elvis" / "Sorry" / "General" like the same batch of melodies, I don't know. Interesting track. Rose vocals not powerful as in "Absurd!" or "Feelin' It". Where is that "grinding riff"?! Sebastiannnnn. Last heavy/dark song of the album.

PERHAPS: Third piano driven song of the album after "Casino Night Zone" and "7". A certainly great upgrade over the 1999 vers. It's dark but with a bit of hope. I like it, I love it!

HERE TODAY: Duff vocals. If "Perhaps" is night; "Here Today" is the dawn or the sunrise. Lovely track; maybe even epic song. Think of a mix between "Misunderstood" and "Crazy" by Aerosmith. I don't know. Just freakin' magic. It's a song of love, sure but it hurts... Still hurts. Beach, sunrise/sunset. I don't know how to describe it. I really love it. 10/10.

RIDERS OUT OF SIGHT: EPIC. YES. YES, LAST EVER ROSE MASTERPIECE OF ALL TIMES. Start like a dark song, like an uninspired "Patience", slow, but later on... I REALLY LOVE YOU AXL. MAN. YOU'RE THE GREATEST FRONTMAN OF ALL TIME. AFTER ALL THIS TIME, THE THING IS THAT WE LOVE YOU, MAN. "NOVEMBER RAIN" / "ESTRANGED" / "RIDERS OUT OF SIGHT". LOVE YOU, MAN. LOVE YOU AS A STARFUCKER. Tears in my eyes again. We are so fortunate to live in this world. Really.

Axl, how beautiful life is while you're in the world.

HARD SKOOL: The great finale. 90's rock and roll style, let's go!! End of the journey. It was a nice ride, right? Like "Roll On 2 U", this is a great direct rock and roll. And life is this.

I can't wait to get my hands on this new album!

Slash playing OMG DOES NOT MAKE SENSE AT ALL!

    A Duff song for Jarmo?

Also, if there's a UYI Boxset there's no way in hell they would release a "NEW CD" to compete with it.

This does not make sense at all!

I'm confused. I want my mommy.

Mommy, is that you? Is that you riding that dolphin?

    WTF?

  11. It's Vegas 92 not 89.

If I'm not mistaken Rocket Queen and Paradise City from Liver Era are from this concert.

Also Ritz '91? There are plenty of footage from the warm-up concerts.

Give us something more interisting like THE FORUM concert that lasted for almost 4 hours when they released the UYI records.

Can wait for a Locomotive (Demo Version), Crash Diet reworked (w/ a lyric video like SOL), Just Another Sunday, Too Much Too Soon, Beer and a Cigarette and Bring it Back Home.

But this is GNR so we will have Ain't Going Down (again) and 17 different versions of KOHD.

  12. 3 hours ago, RichardNixon said:

Count me in as excited if those two songs represent the sound/direction of a new album.

I have mixed feelings about this! First (and I know this is unpopular to say), but I love ABSURD and I think the work they've done revamping Silkworms was amazing, but I really think the demo version of Hardskool, with the long intro, was more classic rock, it was just better. I don't know if you notice, but Slash skips some notes (on purpose of course) during the verse if compared to the original version, the song was more fluid and then if feels more punkish and raw.

I don't know it's the same feeling I had comparing Lars Ulrich's drum tone on the Black Album to the open snare of Saint Anger. Something just doesn't feel right.

What I doubt is if after this "new record" (IF it happens) we will see any other GNR record at all.

I think this will be the last one.

  13. To me, there will never be a "new" GNR record!

There's Paul Stanley from Kiss and Roger Daltrey of The Who saying, today, there's no point of a new record for both bands, because no one cares anda fans just wanna hear classics, for emotional reasons or whatever.

And the we see how everybody reacted to "Absurd" (I really like this version of the song), but the majority of the fans hated it, which I think Axl shot himself in the foot by releasing something "so different" first.

Then "Hard Skool" was great, but the new version feels dilluted, generic, I don't know, it's not a WOW song anymore.

I really think the band lost its momentum and then Fernando says there's a new record, Beta says there's a new record, Fortus says there's tons of material, Slash says nothing was recorded. Feels like they don't know what else to say to keep fans interested, but I tend to believe in Slash, which is sad.

Last but not least, if they didn't record anything in 5 years why record anything now?

    I miss that Chinese-Democracy-anytime-now feeling.

  14. I read somewhere that the riff of Dr. Feelgood was kind of stolen from GNR.

I need to find that article again, but some "insider" or maybe a member of the band/doug goldstein said that Nikki was around during that period when they were reharsing and creating UYI in 1989, and suddenly MC the released DF.

    *UPDATED*

At the end of the day it really seems like you want to take a simple April Fools Day joke thread and turn it into something it just isn't. You can throw out all the wildly inaccurate accusations you want about the board, but that doesn't make them true.

If you feel personally attacked by a simple joke thread then there's nothing me, the other users here or the actual people who run the site can do to help you.

The way Fernando had handled (or NOT handled) GN'Rs business is offensive as hell to most fans, so I guess we're even on that front.

Also, remember that this thread was created as a fun April Fools joke. So there was absolutely no need to come in and attempt to suck all the fun out of it by defending a guy who A) doesn't need you to defend him and B) there's no defense for anyway.

@RussTCB, you're absollutely right and maybe here is not my place anymore, but here's the deal:

    A) I'm not defending Fernando, I'm defending myself and this is something you guys will never understand, because I get it that it is hard to put yourself in someone’s shoes that’s so far away. But by the way some people here are interpreting my post you can see that some of them, which where born in the US, having English as their native tongue, can’t even read or interpret a simple text in English and can’t even tell the difference about racism and xenophobia. I wasn’t talking about racism anyway.

    B) But when you make fun of a Latino or a Brazilian or a Chinese or a third country country (I'm talking that in general), yep, you are being Xenophobic.

    C) About sucking all the fun! Where's the fun, Russ? Where’s the fun in bullying, Russ? That’s the best April fools joke this forum ever had? Come on? Where is the fun? There's negative and a negative macho vibe everywhere in this forum!

You are a great guy, Russ, the admins are great guys, there's lots of great people over here, I've been here since 2008, met a lot of great people, had fun, had my time!

But this is not my place anymore, Russ! I don’t fit in anymore as you can see! And I think I’m glad to, but hey, keep up the good work man!

Since I can’t delete my profile, I ask you to ban me from the forum! No hard feelings!

THANK YOU, FOR REAL and to all the admins on this forum!

WHAT??? You have just twisted my words in the most evil kind of way, like you didn't pay attention to a word that wrote and I know that I made myself very clear andI wasn't attacking you! My man, I'm done. This wasn's the purpose of this post.
