  1. Couple of things:

-DJ did a good thing by taking time to get some hungry people some food

-DJ comes off like a douche for filming and editing that video to come off as it did

-The ALS ice bucket challenge raised over $100M, anyone that bitches about it deserves a pop in the sneeze bump

-SoulMonster (who I usually enjoy) comes off as douchier than DJ in this thread

  2. Because losing to Douglas actually refocased Tyson, until he went to Prison that is. Go watch Tyson vs Ruddock 1 and 2. Evander Holyfield at his very best would have gotten steam rolled by either Tyson or Ruddock at that time.

Um, no. Firstly, Mike was not refocused. There's nothing that supports that POV. Secondly, I'm from Toronto. I know Ruddock. He was wholly overrated. You may as well be trying to sell me on the fact that Tyson was "back" after prison because he crushed a couple of cans.

Speaking of Holmes, Holyfield fought him 4 years after Mike, yet he took Holyfiled to decision. So by your logic, either Holmes magically got a lot better 4 years after Mike knocked him out or perhaps what I said is true. Holyfield wasn't that good during his initial reign. He was at his best in 1996~7.

That's not how boxing works, but I suspect you know that.

  3. Why wouldn't he beat Holy in 91?

I think a better question is why *would* he? He had already entered the unfocused "i don't give a shit" stage and that would have been the fight of Holyfield's life to that point. I don't know that I see it going much differently than in '96, although one could argue Evander was a step quicker in '91.

  4. Went with Top 20. I can't in good conscience go with top 10 when he's no higher than 3rd in his generation, which wasn't exactly the pinnacle of the heavyweight division. Might even fall out of my top 20, but I'd have to put some serious thought into it.

  5. Slash talking about The Spaghetti Incident?: I love recording like this. During Appetite..., Lies and Use Your... I had to put up with Izzy the whole time. I never liked playing with him. It was wonderful to escape him on this record. It sounds tighter and so much cooler than anything we've done before. I always got irritated over Izzy's way of playing. It didn't sound right. Before "Spaghetti", we erased his guitar and Gilby put on a new one. It sounded perfect! [Okej, November? 1993]

I'm thinking this quote is fake unless proven otherwise. It doesn't sound like Slash's voice and doesn't even really match up with the other interviews where he was critical of Izzy.

I found this interview originally in HTGTH's archive. You can read the complete interview here: http://www.a-4-d.com/t574-1993-11-dd-interview-with-slash

Okej is a Swedish magazine. I don't have original copies and rely on the translation done by "Andreas". I agree Slash is much hardsher than in any other interviews I have seen. On the other hand, maybe he thought it was more "safe" to speak frankly to an obscure magazine in Sweden? This was also done at a time where Slash was bitter about Izzy's behaviour during the 5 stand-in shows (when Gilby was injured), and possibly also bitter about ending the UYI touring and the band losing its focus.

All this being said, it is not unknown for interviewers to spruce up interviews, especially if they go into a language the subject won't understand, or for translators to have an agenda...

    100% true.

I have listened to/read about 600 interviews from Slash and I could imagine him saying this.

Oh. Well, that settles that then. I've read 600 books on unicorns and I can imagine them, so they must be real.

  7. I thought it was interesting how each character that died basically fell on their sword and sacrificed themselves. Pretty much every major character has given up on a happy ending in life and is ready to move on to the next, Jax included.

Agreed that the bylaw Jax wants changed is the biracial one, given that it was the cause of Juice starting the entire downward spiral for the club.

And apparently "I just killed my mom" sex is the best sex.

  8. Slash is aware that my book has been optioned for a movie and wormed me about all the challenges that come along with it. His thoughts were it could turn into a big mess

    Sounds like sage advice.

I hope this works out for the best. Knowing the band's history with litigious matters though, I could see this getting bogged down in "negotiations" until the option expires.

  9. They can call Beijing and their investors can tell the US to fuck off and our economy goes down the drain. You think 2008 was bad? They can do much worse than that.

First, China is not at Putin's beck and call.

Second, China wouldn't do that. If they submarine the US economy, who's going to buy their goods? The economies are too inter-connected. The US is "too big to fail".

  10. I actually do not believe Slash here, about the bad mouthing VR thing. Firstly, he got caught lying when he stated the meeting never took place in the first place (regardless of what was said), before doing an u-turn and groveling to his irate VR bandmates. So he has already lied about the event, which would lead to one wondering whether he was lying about topics discussed also. Secondly, Slash does bad mouth his band mates. He bad mouthed Izzy in 1992 in a brutal manner, saying 'he never liked to play with Izzy'' and ''Gilby is much better'. He bad mouthed Snakepit #2 in his autobiography, calling them a bunch of ''drug addict leeches''. He has a history of this.

    Ahem:

As I've said before, I don't buy Beta's account of the visit. Have you ever noticed that whenever Beta tells a story, the other party is an emotional wreck and begging Axl for forgiveness, using flowery language that no one actually uses in real life? Look at her account of the conversation with the Activision exec and her story of how Slash behaved. There are some interesting similarities.

Explain why when put through the Beta filter, everyone seems to tell Axl EXACTLY what he wishes they'd say?

  11. Sofia has made better films than her father in the last in the last decade. When was the last time Francis made a good film? Bram Stoker's Dracula was decent. Jack was dumb but Robin Williams made the most of it.

Then again not many directors can say they've made The Godfather I and II and equally impressive The Conversation.

I like Sofia as a director, and she should have never been put in the position where she had to carry that role in 3. But, she sucked.

As you say in a later post, I think Apocalypse Now not only pushed Francis over the edge but just about everyone that was involved with that film. Have you seen the Hearts of Darkness documentary?

    I haven't seen it.

Brando was already far gone before Apocalypse Now. Bertolucci broke him during Last Tango in Paris. He was not the same after that.

    It's worth a watch. Here's the trailer:

  13. Loved the Sierra games. I was a big fan of the first two Police Quest games and I think the first PC game I ever bought with my own money was Leisure Suit Larry 2 (looking back, what kind of store sells that game to a 10 year old?).

I'm pretty sure that Al Lowe is responsible for my love of dorky jokes to this day.

  14. Marc, Axl withdrew from Reckless Road The Book once you decided to release the thing, and now is personally estranged from you. What makes you believe Axl will green light Reckless Road The Movie, a much bigger commercial undertaking? I am not have a go here and being unduly negative; I simply cannot see any other reaction from W. Axl Rose than a strongly worded, veto.

    It's a fair question.

Marc if you need someone to play Izzy just shoot me a PM, I know a guy

Wasn't funny the first time you made the joke.
