  1. Be Here Now was endearingly excessive, SOTSOG was admittedly crap, and I didn't bother with Heathen Chemistry past the single which rocked, but Don't Believe The Truth was great!

The DBTT songs come across especially well in a live setting. That said, with Definitely Maybe, Morning Glory, and The Masterplan, they have my money for concerts for as long as they tour :).

  2. A lot of people rag on Oasis, but man, compared to the other bands out there nowadays, they're the real deal.

'The Shock Of The Lightning', Gallagher added: "If 'The Shock Of The Lightning' sounds instant and compelling to you, it's because it was written dead fast. And recorded dead fast.

"'The Shock of The Lightning' basically is the demo. And it has retained its energy. And there’s a lot to be said for that, I think. The first time you record something is always the best."

I was glad to read this. I feel like a lot of bands and production teams nowadays are so dead set on pro-tooling, click tracking, pitch correcting, and 100 take digital cutting and pasting, that they take all the soul right out of the music.

  3. Hmm, it's alright. Not sure I dig that weird effect going on...

I love Urban Hymns and their debut. The best part of that band, for me, is Nick McCabe and all his awesome guitar work.

  4. I'm curious to see if Dr. Dre's final album will be as big as The Chronic and 2001 -- both of those were huuuuuge. I don't really like rap anymore, but it'd be cool if he came in and wiped the floor with the stuff coming out nowadays.

the man did mix the Illusions - I don't know if that's good though.

    ^_^

  5. I'm not what I'd consider a Coldplay fan, but this album is great. I just decided to grab it and listen to it from start to finish, and I like it a lot.

These days, to say you could do worse than them would be an appalling understatement :).

  6. I wish I saw them with their old bassist. That guy was pretty awesome... musically speaking, anyway. Him and Dave Grohl, actually -- what a brief but killer lineup.

Millionaire will never be the same!

  7. Liam and Axl are the last real rock n' roll singers who aren't in their 50's or 60's.

AUGUST IS COMING! OASIS LIVE AT GM PLACE, RANDY BABY!

    RAAAH!

They were great in '04 or whenever it was. The crowd sucked, though. Fuck us boring ass Vancouverites... fuck us... I wish I could see them in mahn-chestah.

  8. I wish Dizzy would fuck off though.

    x1000

It'd be sweet if GNR reunited as a 5-piece, just so they could make a music video where Slash takes his Les Paul, lights it on fire, and fucking crashes it through a keyboard fronted by a Dizzy look-a-like -- battle axe style.

I hate all that random noise over the outro solo, too. Damn ILLUSIONS ALBUMS!@ RAAH!

  9. Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by the Smashing Pumpkins is a classic as much as Oasis stuff is.

Does Urban Hymns by the Verve qualify as rock? That album is a classic through and through as well.

    So that's 1995 and 1997?

And I agree with those who put Definitely Maybe ahead of WTS:MG. It's close, but DM just eeks it out. Plus, the production of Morning Glory sucks! It's totally muddy and distorted, and is one of the first examples of the "loudness war." I think Contraband was a really good moment for rock, and Songs for the Deaf was pretty sweet too, but I think the fact that rock has been dead at the time they were released makes them look somewhat better than they may actually be.

The White Stripes might have a classic album, but I wouldn't know. Californication is also kind of close -- decent amount of filler, though.

Edit: Oh LEARNING PROCESS beat me on Urban Hymns -- now I have an e-crush on him; love that album!

Edit2: Oh and I thought Morning Glory came out in '94, but it was '95, so pretty much at the same time as Mellon Collie. Damn...

That whole post-grunge mid-late 90's alternative scene has to have a few classic albums, doesn't it?

  10. YES!!! This is gonna be the first good bond theme since Golden Eye

Yeah, the Golden Eye theme was kickass.

Which one did Madonna rape my ears with?

Haha, it was from Die Another Day! I remember that one pretty good....

I'm gonna close my body now

    I guess -- die, another day!@

Sigmund Freud -- Analyze this. Analyze this. Analyze this.

She took Bond to strange news places.
