Their first album..
....Thrown at a wall repeatedly.
Oh snap...
I gotta take what I can get as far as passable new rock music is concerned .

Hey dudes...
I'm just trying to write a paper and am looking for some new music to chill to. After reading that thread about British albums I decided to check out the Arctic Monkeys... does anyone have any song recommendations?
Just got:
Who the fuck are the Arctic Monkeys
Fake Tales from San Francisco
Brainstorm
... off Itunes so far, and they're great. I'm not sure if they're considered lame in Britain or whatever for being so popular there, but I like 'em so far . They're not a huge deal around here as far as I can tell.

I like Foo Fighters decently, but everytime I see them I can't help but daydream about Grohl on drums. I'd rather he join QOTSA full time or something than listen to the Foos!
That's just me though . He just absolutely punishes his drum kit -- I can't get enough of it. Nirvana, QOTSA, NIN -- wherever!
Nicotine, Valium, Vicodin, Marijuana, Ecstasy and Alcohoooool!!@ /smash smash smash

Definitely Maybe really is awesome. Critics just wanted to hate them because they were arrogant, brash, cocky, and exceedingly popular. The Stone Roses debut should have come before Morning Glory, though.
I don't really care about the other stuff to be honest... and while I recognize it's historical significance, personally I think Sgt. Peppers sucks .

Yeah that didn't seem to be the best purchase MS ever made (buying Rare)...
Bungie didn't really work out well either.
I read a rumor they're considering buying Epic -- that'll be interesting to follow.

Just how big are the Arctic Monkeys in the UK? They seem pretty cool from iTunes previews and the singles that I've heard, but from what I've read they've been labeled the saviors of rock and all sorts of stuff over there by NME etc.

For a good example of this, listen to an album like Californication by RHCP. Fucking awful... I can't even listen to Get On Top.
-
I'll see him at Pinkpop festival in Holland, where he is now confirmed too. With Metallica, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Floggin Molly, The Verve and many more they really have a great line-up this year.
Wow that sounds like an amazing show!

This is equivalent to making a poll asking: "Hitler's Greatest Achievement?"
No contest...
How about stabilizing Germany's economy?
Nothing trumps zee people's car!

I love SG and Audioslave, but man I really don't dig his solo albums.
No Such Thing is such an awkward rock song -- it's really disheartening.
Can't forget Temple of the Dog.
Solo album 1 = Awesome.
Solo album 2 = Not very good.
Yeah Temple of the Dog was great .
I'll be honest I haven't listened to Euphoria Morning in forever... I was probably somewhat bias with Soundgarden breakup induced anger . The latest one though I can clearly say I hate!

Pretty crumby genre looking back at it... used to be a Korn and Limp Bizkit fan back in like Grade 7 .
I still think Korn had some good ideas, but don't think they really expanded their sound or built on it properly.
-
As far as being better than Oasis, I guess I'll have to give them some more time before I can make that judgment call... there's something about Definitely Maybe and The Masterplan... plus the whole dynamic of the brothers... I just really dig that band .
Cool to see some fans though. I see two at least two of you are European... nobody around hear seems to know of them till I mention Bittersweet Symphony .

Hey dudes.
After really getting into Oasis and The Stone Roses last year, steepin' myself in the whole 90's Brit-pop scene, I sort of ran out of material to explore after not really liking Blur all that much. Recently though I've started digging into the Verve, after initially being somewhat hesitant due to the criminal over-saturation of Bittersweet Symphony across radio airwaves nationwide in the late 90's .
I'm happy to say I've been really impressed so far. For a band labeled in North America as a one hit wonder, Urban Hymns is a really great pop-rock record.... Sonnet, Space and Time, Lucky Man, The Drugs Don't Work, The Rolling People, Weeping Willow-- some of these songs have a really classic vibe to them. Their earlier albums are pretty cool too, although they are of a somewhat different style. Storm in Heaven is a "shoe gazing" album, where it's all about the wall of sound... Blue and Make It 'Till Monday are my personal favs off that one. And I haven't touched A Northern Soul yet save for This Is Music, which rocks.
Sooooo, any fans? If not, I recommend you give 'em a glance if you like Oasis or Brit rock or whatever!

Happiness in Slavery is a sweet song.
It's way up tempo compared to Capital-G though...

Anyone playing Mass Effect?
Pretty impressive game...
Yeah man that was a good ride... I had to be benevolent because I'm a pussy. I started a second run through, as a butch and bald lesbian .
They're releasing some downloadable content soon, where you have to save some planet from an impending asteroid impact...

I saw Silverchair in concert in like 1995.... and man did they wish they were Nirvana... that was during the Frogstomp era though... I guess they changed their sound a lot on later albums.
That said, despite their somewhat derivative nature, they're way better than bands like Bush that came out around the same time with a similar sound.

Where's QOSTA?

Wow I just don't get the appeal. It's not Nickleback level bad, but... man it's cheesy. '15' that is, I'm not overly familiar with the other stuff besides 'Lit Up.'
I guess their sound, at least on the singles, is a lot more accessible and poppy than a band like VR. Or maybe Libertad blows, I dunno anymore . At least I can rock myself to sleep with the Contraband sales numbers... ah yes...
.

I can't believe people pay to go to Motley shows post 1989... at their best they were the top of the heap in a proverbial garbage can of a musical genre. I'd hate to see Vince Neil at 55 after seeing him at 45.
And Mick Mars has been a walking corpse for like 5 years... wtf?
PS. Long live Razzle!

Contraband is too muddy, yet Libertad is too cleeeeeeeean. We need to strike a balance on three.
That said I don't think Libertad is suffering from production woes, it just doesn't have any crazy breakthrough singles.

I just saw Downfall the other day, the German movie about Hitler's last days in his bunker. It was really surreal to see all the high rollers and personalities from the Nazis together in a tiny bunker interacting with each other as the country is being ripped to shreds around them. The performances are all top-notch and it's definitely worth seeing.
