  1. well they dont seem to get much publicity' perhaps they dont want it

I think that is due largely to the fact that they totally hate Ticketmaster and Clearchannel, and do everything they can to avoid using their services. Ticketmaster and Clearchannel are the two biggest names in music and concert promotion, so the lack of publicity is probably stemming from that.

Oh I better pick a song...ummm..errr...why do I have to choooooose :).....I'll go with Jeremy > Black > Alive.

  2. Well, I think a lot of people hate them because they became over-exposed in and around 2000, and got clumped up with Limp Bizkit and company; people sort of backlashed. They became popular for a reason though, and their self-titled debut album from 1994 is pretty cool and was definitely innovative, along with some of the tracks off their late 90's albums (Freak on a Leash for example). Nowadays people are ashamed to admit they were into Korn back in the day :).

Their newer couple albums are total trash though, I guess they just ran dry creatively.

  3. Would? > Them Bones > Angry Chair.

I like some of their other songs just as much if not more than Them Bones and Angry Chair: Dirt, Down in a Hole, and Junkhead for instance. Would is my favorite though.

I gotta say AIC with only Jerry on vocals is going to sound pretty crumby come summertime.

  4. Man AIC is amazing. Just amazing; better than Nirvana and Pearl Jam by miles, and Soundgarden too in my opinion.

You should see Love, Hate, Love preformed live. Where he goes from soft to loud as fuck to soft again. Its crazy. They sounded so amazing live, I don't know how some bands could even attempt a live preformance after seeing a AIC concert (a good one, where Layne isn't fucked up :) ); they'd look pathetic.

Reading his last interview where he's dieing is some pretty depressing stuff.

Facelift is 50/50 in terms of good vs filler, but Dirt is a masterpiece.

Edit: Er, sorry for saying amazing so much, but damn they're frickin' amazing! :rofl-lol:

  5. Hey guys.

I just bought this album Definitely Maybe by Oasis. I love this CD so much I figured I'd make a post. It came out around 1994, and I'd say 85% of the album is solid, solid stuff. It rocks really hard, a lot harder than the later pop hits like Wonderwall. Columbia, Live Forever, Supersonic, Bring It On Down, Slide Away, Rock N' Roll Star, these are some wicked tunes!!!!!

Anyone else here a fan of this thing? If you don't have it and you like rock music, go buy it, or get a couple songs off Itunes!

  6. IRS is garbage plain and simple.

    TWAT is ok I guess.

Better shows the most potential, slice out that Buckethead middle part and you'd have a great song.

I realize more and more everyday that Slash's guitar work is what I love the most about GNR, and that if Axl had less input into the UYI albums I'd probably like them even more than I already do. GNR songs that I hate off the UYI albums; lately I've been searching for versions of them without the vocals, like demos and shit. I just listen to the instrumental portion and basically every song sounds fucking awesome. So basically, at this point, I'd take Libertad over CD.

You're the TWAT you are choosing an album that hasn't even a single note recorded over a great song like I.R.S. get your ears syringed.

 No need for personal attacks, I'm just sayin' I'd rather have Libertad in my hands than CD right now, if it was somehow possible. And again, IRS being garbage is a personal preference, but look around man, a lot of people agree with me. You should read some of the stuff people said about it after it was played on the radio.

Also, I agree with the post above, the best solo to come out of these leaks is the one at the end of Better. I actually like that one a lot. Doesn't have to be super technical to kick ass.

  7. This incident should delay the album until 2007 at least

    Mr. Peanut why is that?

He has to go see Yoda the fortuneteller in the Arizona mountains to cleanse his chi and make sure it wasn't a sign about the future fortunes of CD. And of course re-record the entire album for no particular reason :P.

  8. IRS is garbage plain and simple.

Yes... you keep telling yourself that.

I've never heard a song of that kind of quality played that fast in my life. It's brilliant.

What are you views on "Madagascar" and "The Blues"?

I'm just stating my opinion, I don't see anything worth mentioning about that song. Its so generic and boring, and of all the demos his voice is the worst on that track. Mainly its just the nu-metal sounding guitar riff that I dislike though, and the lyrics to the chorus.

I don't even remember what I think of those other two songs to be honest, if that tells you anything. Haven't listened to them since last year. The Blues was pretty cool in some parts, others like when he sings "So now I wonder through my days, trying to find my way" or whatever he says, ugh :vomit: .

  9. IRS is garbage plain and simple.

    TWAT is ok I guess.

Better shows the most potential, slice out that Buckethead middle part and you'd have a great song.

  10. Plus if CD bombed then it wouldn't make a dent in the immaculate record of GNR, and a reunion would have probably been a lot more feasible. Like Scott Weilands crappy solo album 12 bar blues or whatever its called.

  11. CHINESE DEMOCRACY DELAYED

The hotly antipicated Guns N' Roses album "Chinese Democracy", succesor to the Use You Illusion albums, has been delayed. Axl rose has decided to devote all his creative energy into making the ultimate comeback insult to direct towards Scott Weiland, in response to recent derogatory comments made by the former Stone Temple Pilots singer. Axl is excited about the project, and expects it will demonstrate to the world that it was he, and he alone, who was the driving force behind the Guns N' Roses badass image. Many famous guests have been approached to collaborate on the project, including comedian Chris Rock. "I worked specifically on the 'yo mama' portion" said Mr. Rock, "It was a blast doing the sessions. I had flown out to L.A. specially to help Axl out as much as I could." Critics have claimed that by the time the comeback insult is released, the jokes will have become stale and will lack the punch that is required to make an impact, as popular culture will have moved on. Guns N' Roses manager Merck Mercuriadis disagrees. "Axl Rose will have the last laugh" said Mr. Mercuriadis, "2006 is the year of the Guns N' Roses comeback insult."

  12. Axl rules man, but there's a difference between dressing down, like the first airport pic a few weeks back, and dressing retardedly, aka this pic.

Axl needs to ditch the braids, cut his hair shorter (like the '99 mugshot), wear some nice jeans, a decent shirt and some boots. It would look fine. He doesn't need to "prove" anything.

There ya go. I agree with that. Doesn't take a freakin' rocket surgeon. The big thing is he should wear shirts that actually fit him, so he doesn't look like a fuckin' moo moo wearing fatass when he has no reason to.

To be honest I want his voice to go back to its roots a lot more than his clothes; if he sounds better than in 2002 than I probably won't even care about anything else.

  13. Please - please - somebody take him shopping and teach him how to dress again.

I don't usually care what he wears -- but my God, there's a limit if he's going to start wandering around in public again and wants to maintain some credibility - not to mention dignity - as a rocker. Sorry - but the oversized sweatsuits and sweatshirts have to go.

Axl - if you need help, give me a call.

Its not about the clothes, its about the music. ;)

When you're re-emerging into the rock world after a 10-year hiatus - and you have people like Scott already railing on your age and looks - you really need to dress the part if you want to attract new fans and remind old fans of why you rule the rock world. Sorry, but you just do. Rockers hire stylists for a reason.

It's wierd though, that Axl's personal style seemed to work so well in the 80's/early 90's (for the most part). I wonder what happened . Maybe it was just a fluke that the 80's had the craziest darn clothes around, and it just happened to work :). Or maybe it was because half the time all he had was underpants and a hat on, oh well...

  14. Bit of trivia, apparently Bon Jovi were doing a show in Vancouver in the 80's (Washington or Canada, not sure) and Jon was reading the paper and saw mention of Guns N' Roses doing a local show or some shit before they were big, and he was seriously considering using the name Guns N' Roses for Bon Jovi's upcoming album, which was eventually named Slippery When Wet. So yeah...

    :fuckyou: Bon Jovi :)

  15. Anyone know who plays the solo in Better, at about 3:35? Was it Buckethead?

No way....it was fortus or finck

Yeah, if it isnt shredding it isnt Buckethead.

it sounded pretty emotional as well :D

Oh awesome, because that was actually my favorite part of the song. It really DID sound emotional, simple and effective, so that's cool then since they're still in the band...

  16. i remember mtv making a list of the best bands of the last 25 yrs. and Gnr ranked #3 behind U2 and Metallica. They are always in the top 100 lists . I don't think they are underrated I just think people have pity for them because they had a chance to be as big as the rolling stones but they fucked it up. The reason that the press isn't so favorable towards this new gnr is because of the respect they have for the old band, they don't want GNR to become a joke. I hope Axl proves them wrong.

I think you hit the nail on the head.

Mike also makes a good point, here's hoping! :).

  17. Actually....Bush was a carbon copy rip off of Nirvana. I think the reason guns weren't emulated was because their lifestyle was considered uncool after grunge and the music scene shifted....Grunge may be dead but bands today are still playing in that shitty drop d tone....

    Exactly.

Like I said, Nirvana's influence has not always been positive, but it cannot be denied.

What the heck is that proving though? The fact that a bunch of mediocore bands are copying Nirvana's easy way of writing music to compensate for their lack of songwriting abilities, is somehow a measure of how great Nirvana was? OK...

Well bands like Buck Cherry and Silvertide sure sound like they're GNR influenced (just off the top of my head), and I mean if you look on

Itunes celebrity playlists, a bunch of them had guns songs as their favorites. I think you're selling GNR short a bit...but whatever.

Like I said I think GNR's lack of emulation by follow up bands has more to do with the uniqueness of GNR and it's members, rather than their popularity and influence, or lack of as you seem to think.

  18. Actually....Bush was a carbon copy rip off of Nirvana. I think the reason guns weren't emulated was because their lifestyle was considered uncool after grunge and the music scene shifted....Grunge may be dead but bands today are still playing in that shitty drop d tone....

Probably because anyone trying to emulate GNR would have come off as posers, the lifestyle they had was insane and subversive in the 80's and crazy excessive in all respecsts in the 90's, and they were the only people who could even think of pulling it off :).

  19. Reading those threads about the brazilian and swedish journalist ripping Axl and Guns got me thinking about something.

I always felt that the impact of Guns N Roses and Axl Rose as a frontman/artist were severely underrated by the media outlets like Rolling Stone. Guns N Roses gave one of the all time greatest rock albums in AFD, a near perfect album, a seminal debut for a grimy rock band. They weren't posers, they weren't intentionally being subversive, they were just real and raw.

But they get written off as some flash in the pan band with a couple good songs who were sort of popular in their day but are a relic of the past with outdated music.

Lord knows I'm no Axl-lite, but Axl Rose's talents and his abilities as a songwriter and artist are completely ignored and mired under his lesser traits (homophobia, purported racism, being an asshole, etc). Axl has ofcourse made it worse by continuing to use the GnR name without the other members to the ire of the music industry and media. But aside from all his controversial aspects and areas where obviously he deserves some of the shit he gets, the guy was an immensely talented frontman. You don't write songs like Estranged and November Rain and lyrics to songs like Coma and be considered "that red haired asshole from guns n roses you know that 80's hair metal band, yeah they had a few good songs, Appetite was their only good album everything else afterwards was shit"...bet everyone has heard that line before in everything you read about Guns N Roses....

Now Guns in their day were a phenomenally talented band with worldwide popularity, they were the biggest band in the world. Their original material (AFD, Lies, UYI) are exceptionally strong albums with material that is holding up well over time. This isn't dated shit like stuff you find in the later Van Halen albums, Skid Row,etc....people are still listening to Paradise City and November Rain....Guns N Roses took risks whether they were successfull or not is subjective but they were not a one-dimensional band. Yet many say they were corporate rock, even with 10 minute art rock epics with f-bombs littered throughout....

So what do you guys think is the reason this band and Axl are so underrated? They were the last big band to make waves in America, not a single band has taken the mantle and become huge in America. Not one. For all the shit Axl gets, is there a single frontman who comes close to what he did in the 80's and 90's? Nope. In an era of posers (Eminem), you have a truly controversial band with a great frontman who really has not delivered a subpar record of original material. As the VH1 biography of Guns says, Axl's image has been frozen in time because he left the industry on such a strong note. Yet his legacy is still a big question mark, he still has not cemented it like Slash....will he do it with Chinese Democracy? Get the rightful praise he deserves?

FYI: This is not a thread to fawn over Axl Rose (sorry Axllites)

While I may agree with large parts of this, at the end of the day, GNR is overrated if anything.

This is a band with 2 proper albums.

This is why I have to chuckle when some of you talk about them for the Hall Of Fame. No shot. Not a long enough career. If this was a nother band with such a short time at the top and such a shortage of material, you would not give them a second thought.

Objectivity has never been the GNR fanbase's strong suit.

I'm bet Nirvana is going to get in <_< . Appetite was just as influential as Nevermind in my opinion, both bands have a general lack of material relatively speaking. I think they should both get in: quality and influence over quantity. I'd hate to see what the music scene of the day would have been like without GNR, until grunge came up.

Nirvana is absolutely getting in and deservedly so.

Their influence for a decade after bursting on the scene (though not always positive for the industry IMO) cannot be denied.

Quick, which bands have emulated GNR??

Emulated or were influenced by? I'm sure many many bands were influenced by guns, I've heard lots of bands, even grunge bands like STP and AIC mention guns. Can't think of anyone who emulated guns, but then again who emulated Nirvana? I'm sure alot of people were influenced by them, but I don't think the other grunge bands of the day emulated Nirvana, they all came out around the same time.
