I've never liked it that much. There is something about the overall sound that grates. I'm not a massive fan of a lot of the covers. My favourite is Ain't it Fun.

I don't think it matters that much whilst he is in the band. If he ever falls out with Axl I don't imagine it will be allowed to stay there very long. As things stand it probably suits Axl to have him promote the old stuff as DJ seems to have the youngest, therefore newest fanbase.

Some very polarised opinions here. I think they primarily did it for the charity but they will have been aware how it would look hence the 'haters will hate' twitter comment.

I think it might hinge on what was said when they met at that hotel in London.

Seeing as all the other members have been in the studio, talked about new material/album do you think that Axl might be punishing Ron for the past years indiscretions by keeping him out of the loop, therefore denying him the thing he wants most, to create music as GnR? Is that a bit far fetched? I can't see Axl letting some of the stuff Ron has said in recent times just slide but I could imagine him getting payback in this way.

You obviously don't know Axl. Slash is already dead to him.People need to understand- Axl could give a shit about Slash. If Slash was hit by bus tomorrow or whatever and the "rock n roll world" had a big benefit/respect concert Axl would not show....rather he & Brazil would have an epic party.
Really? I think he might have a nervous breakdown.
Of course I don't know Axl, none of us do. I struggle to believe that the passing of someone who has consumed your emotions for many years wouldn't cause a huge emotional upheaval.

I sort of agree, on the surface it seems like a really twatty thing to do but to piss off all the members of your two former bands to the point where they are comfortable with doing this must make Scott a pretty twatty person too.

Just got back from the concert and it really was amazing. To those of you who sit at home and read the set list then watch YouTube videos this isn't for you. The concert was similar to many in the past, but the energy of actually being there and hearing the songs live is incredible. You can hear when he hits higher notes and know they won't translate well, but in concert those notes come off with great power and energy. By no means weak. The rest of the band is great in how they interact with the crowd, but when Axl's on stage all eyes are on him. There's no doubt he is Guns n Roses and deserves the title more than anyone. His energy was amazing. I can't get over how much he's moving around for a nearly 3 hour concert. The seeker caught the crowd off guard but they loved it! There was a funny moment when Axl picked up a quarter and said "ohh a quarter" bumble foot held out his hand and Axl said "fu*k you it's my quarter".
I can't tell anyone enough how great he was tonight. I know most of you have experienced it before, but from the moment the crowd first lays eyes on him you know your watching a legend. He apologized for being late during KOHD, he said it was electrical problems and he was there at 3:30 this afternoon but the opening band didn't start till 9:30. Axl came on about 20 min after their set ended.
It was awesome seeing him play live and easily one of the best shows I've ever seen. He truly is an incredible entertainer. We take his brilliance for granted often. The crowd loved him. Everyone was shocked how fun the show was from start to finish and how great Axl was. He made jokes throughout and put on a great show! Couldn't ask for much more from a frontman when he's on stage.
Great review. Glad you enjoyed it.

If we believe what is in Duff's book and I have no reason not to, he always had a better relationship with Axl from the outset. Whilst Slash and Axl had chemistry onstage I really don't think they ever really gelled from the outset. I believe at one stage they had a lot of professional respect for each other and it was this respect that was eroded over time rather than a close friendship.
I expect though there is stuff that has never been made public.

Why would he want to reveal though? Surely it will potentially cause him a load of shit.

Great review Val22. He looks really on form in the videos. The HOB seems like a great venue.

Slash does sell hand wrapped, leather bound candles.
Candles>Swag
Or maybe it's the other way round....anyhow I await some swagcandles™

I can only imagine Scott sees Axl's acquiring of the GNR name in a whole different light now.

It was probably us. We are a mean bunch. :-(

Rusty your sig is beginning to look like a fairground attraction. You just need a few flashing lights now. :-P

No just no. Those birds....
He would look okay with just the sleeve and the stomach. I can only assume the ravens mean something to him.

I've never quite got the appeal of Trent but I do think Axl is being deliberately cagey this time round.

Some great answers guys. I will continue waiting patiently for a new album and the enactment of all the above scenarios. I think it's going to be good. We could have a virtual street party when it happens. I will bring sausage rolls and wine. :-)

It will be like when Chinese Democracy was released, everyone will go bat shit and there will be dozens of topics with hundreds of pages untill the board eventually crash.
Precisely. I think we should make a strike until there's new music. The forum will explode.
When the album came out there were hundred-page threads. Same with the antiquiet leaks. CD.com created a sub-forum just to discuss the tracks individually. The second we get new material, we're happy.
So we do all have something to look forward to then. I love the drama of something big happening. I'm rather anticipatory about it. They had better not let me down. ;-)

If everyone is bored because they want new music what will this forum be like when that happens?
Will there be 200 page threads intellectually discussing the nuance of every lyric or will people be like 'Meh, it's alright I suppose' and go back to creating topics about Axl's boat and moustache?
I wasn't here when CD was released so genuinely interested as to what will happen to the forum at the next release.
*for the sake of this thread I am assuming there will be a release.

I wonder why he felt the need to do a trilogy. Was it to go one better than UYIs? If so it's dangerous logic because where does it end, quadruple or quintuplet albums? Seems like a lot of unnecessary pressure to load onto yourself when most fans would have been happy with just the one but released much earlier than it was.

I wouldn't go as far as saying they been spinning their wheels for the last for years. I think that something was due in 2011 but for whatever reason it didn't happen. UCAP or Vegas should have been the end of the touring cycle (opinion not fact).
What do you think was due in 2011?
CD re-issue with additional cd-era tracks (unreleased and remixes).
Yes, heard that mentioned before. Shame they didn't, it might have paved the way for other stuff a bit sooner.

I wouldn't be surprised if he does work out with a trainer or machines but I think late nights and alcohol are currently winning out. He seems to have phases in his life (as many people do) it's entirely possible that he could resurface in a year with a whole new look and be buffed up. With his resources it wouldn't take much if he is inclined.
