It seems it was this same documentary. She said her story hasn't been included eventually "for legal reasons" (I suppose they couldn't find anything/anyone to back it up).

    Ah.

Curious though, why would her story be any more unverifiable than the one with the Penthouse girl that did get included in the documentary, the scenario of which indicated there being no other witnesses to the event (whereas there were apparently other witnesses to the Michelle incident, even if they couldn't be verified / unable to give evidence) ?

That was about an already known story, too: the rape charge that was filed during the Gardner rehearsal space days, before the band got signed with Geffen, which was later dropped. A woman named Michelle said she was the person involved in that. She made allegations on social media and posted on the forum, too (there was a long thread in the Jungle section).

Since all that she has also said she's partaken in a documentary, giving an interview about her experience. It hasn't been aired yet though as far as I know. If/when it does and gets a lot of publicity then I think Axl's public image could take a dive.

  3. There is at least one unreleased AFD era show close to pro-shot quality, I found a small segment of it buried in a fairly obscure interview video a while ago. I posted about it on here, to my surprise no one had ever seen it or knew what it is, but the conclusion was a TV company probably has the rights. It looks great though, decent audio/video and Axl even has the teased hair, lol

Yes. That is exactly what should be done when it is that bad. Especially on the most famous song of the night.

I remember the Golden Gods very well, it was hilarious on here. Joan Jett fucked up "I Hate Myself For Loving You" so they played that twice. It wasn't aired live and even if it was, they should have definitely stopped the song.

I saw The Who in person once and the guitar was fucked up on Pinball Wizard. Pete stopped, laughed it off, got another guitar, and they redid it

Yeah, I guess they could have edited the fuck up out of the video recording maybe.. so apart from those at the show, no one would be any the wiser..

  5. I used to really hold that butchering of SCOM at the Golden Gods against Ashba. But admittedly it probably was the guitar tech's fault, not his. Question is, what should he have done in that situ? Stopped playing? All he could do was hope no one noticed really..

I don't think he's a terrible player. Clearly anyone playing in GnR has to be a certain standard. Sure, there are probably amateur players on this forum that are arguably better than him. I don't think the gripe is really about his playing as much as the whole image thing, which I suppose is superficial really. And as for people slating him personally, I'm sure anyone who actually sat down and talked to him would find him just fine. People develop hatred so easily for what they think famous people are about, even though they don't know them at all.

Still though, SCOM butchery, wearing a top hat, Ashba water and Hogan ears are all heavy indictments. Unforgivable.

Oh well, Back Off Bitch is my most disliked song on UYI's - all the classic era, actually

The guitar work is ok, interesting as it features Izzy doing lead stuff too. But overall the song is just weak filler, a throwaway song from 1981 with crappy angry teenager lyrics, total dogshit really

  7. I think this "Axl was the sober one" that often gets repeated needs some qualification.

I think what "sober" meant in GnR world was, not having a full on heroin addiction or alcoholism to the point of getting the shakes without a drink, and not doing coke every day.

He wasn't totally sober, there are various reports of him smoking weed a lot, also doing opium, mushrooms, some heroin in the old days, and he would have done coke sometimes. I've often thought that his extremely energetic UYI performances might have been aided by meth or something but I've no proof of that. It might have been some less intense stimulant. He certainly used to look very skinny and a bit tough sometimes. Slash often said Axl would characteristically be full of energy and plans for short bursts, then be reclusive and sleeping for days. It doesn't sound like the behaviour of a totally sober guy.

  8. I have watched a few of the vids in the past and thought, the mixes are weird, the lead guitar is abnormally loud and the whole thing doesn't gel properly.

Saying that, I just listened to the Brasilia selects and was surprised how good they were. Axl is really good on Jungle, barely any Mickey. Almost like UYI quality, or at least the overall sound of those hybrid mixes on Live Era.

Slash has a history of not being completely honest when recounting events that may or may not have happened, doesn't really mean anything anyway at the end of the day.

I think that's partly just him naturally misremembering things. For example the way he recounts the St.Louis incident in his book, it doesn't exactly match what anyone including he would see in the video. And he has no motive for describing the sequence of events slightly differently, there's nothing to be gained, it's just him speaking from memory rather than checking and cross referencing every detail.

  10. I really like Steve Jones (Jonesy's Jukebox), he may not come across as a professional interviewer but that's kind of the appeal, it's more like just watching him and another musician having a casual conversation, more natural in a way. He's not out to dig for a scandal. Maybe it's easier to vibe off him as as viewer if you're British too, sort of get what his personality and manner is about.

  11. I reckon the 'book' he mentioned at the China Exchange is basically a sort of extended legal deposition detailing his side of events surrounding disputes, something that could in theory be expanded into an autobiography if it was made less to sound like a list of incidents of him being in the right. That's possibly how the Slash book began as well. But I don't think Axl has the appetite for an autobiography. I think he regards his (limited) lyrical output as his 'story' for the world. Slash is not a lyricist but was expressive in interviews so easy to see how a book suited him. Also to attempt to put all the questions to rest too, as he said.

Stern or Rogan hmm. Either might try to tease stuff out of him. Rogan more gently. Stern is quite full on but Axl already knows him. I don't think he'd do either though, he feels no obligation and it's not fun for him.

  12. I honestly couldn't care less if this gets released or not.. an old album with slightly different audio, wow

There's only really a few genuinely stand out songs on it anyway, imo

Locomotive, Coma, Civil War, Estranged, The Garden

A few other half decent ones

    And a load of filler

The original mastering is a bit shit as well tbh. Somehow it's too shiny, yet at the same time muddy, weird midrange on the guitars and Axls vocals buried, sounds like he has a peg over his nose for some tracks, like Breakdown, verses are just "shner n ner n n der der"

So yeah I guess it could do with a remaster tbf

    Great, when's it coming out
