It's great to hear him branch out and work with different musicians. I really like his usual gang, but these two sound great. His voice blends really well with Lauren's.

I agree the tweet is no longer relevant, I think he feels his made his position clear so I am no longer holding out hope for Izzy with GnR and to some extent I don't want him to do it. Theres an element of a dog being thrown a bone that come across with Steven joining them (IMO) and it makes me uncomfortable, I would hate to see a similar situation with Izzy.
Until an agreement with all members past and present is made where all involved feel fairly represented ?? (not going to hold me breath) i am quiet happy watching Izzy do his own thing.
This is true. It doesn't bother me much with Steven but the thought of Izzy backstage waiting for his two songs to start while his former band of brothers play the music that he helped produce feels really unnatural. I wonder if Fortus would take a break Frank style. I doubt it and that would be even weirder.

Izzy's Guns N' Roses tatoo is of Guns N' Swords. He won't be dictated to under any circumstances.

I'll say this- Izzy has been the only exiting thing about this whole 'regroupening.' The Avocado Incident, the song covers, new music, The Nashville Mystery, the Bullshit Tweet Heard 'Round the World, all of it. You can watch every show waiting for Slash to glance at Axl or Axl to touch Slash's arm, but Izzy's where it's at.

It wasn't even really a GNR clip- just him and Axl. I'm sure it had more to do with Izzy being a giant Stones fan than anything. But it's exciting to see him acknowledge that time period in any capacity. I do feel for him if he's reading the comments on any of his tweets though. They are embarassing. Then again if I knew he was reading this board I would die.

He tweeted the video of him and Axl with The Stones in 1989. That one made my breath catch a little.

I tweeted ArtTavana about the interview. It sounds like Izzy changed his mind or is holding off. Oh well, at least we have new music from him to tide us over.
Thanks for that! Predictably unpredictable, that Izzy.

Even if he was joining for some shows I doubt they would announce which ones. I would travel to a show if I knew he was gonna show up for one. However my guess is that he is looking ahead to 2017 and a 2016 GNR tweet is now irrelevant to him and everyone else. Is ArtTavana still around here? He's the one that announced that Izzy would be doing an interview, I wonder if he knows what happened.
That cover sounds amazing! I like "soft" Izzy. And it sounds like warm weather- nice to hear since it's literally -10 degrees outside right now.
Izzy making a super shitty year a little better!

Izzy was in GnR from the beginning, he helped to form the band, that was obviously what I was trying to say, not that he formed the band by himself. His role in AFD is out of discussion, his rhythm playing is as unique as Axl's voice or Slash's solos, his songwriting skills are outstanding... all of that forms the band, it's not only about joining the band. Duff McKagan has said that without Izzy GnR would have never existed and I think he knows about it a little bit more than us.
Exactly. I have no doubt that Fortus is a technically better guitar player than Izzy- but it doesn't matter one bit. Izzy's sexy, crunchy, dirty sounding guitar playing helped make AFD what is was. His early style and fashion sense clearly influenced the other members and helped define the band. And his quiet charisma helped balance the others onstage too. He was just a perfect part of the puzzle. A puzzle he helped create. Irreplaceable.

The other thing that makes this all so bewildering is just looking at it from the plebian side of things. How much money does one possibly need? They were all rich before this, they will be wildly rich after this, no matter how the money was split. Rich. Never have to work again rich. Kids wont have to work rich. Rich Rich Rich. I realize thats why we aren't hearing about it- it doesn't make any of them look good and they know it- but it's just frustrating as fuck.

I love love love Come On Now Inside!
Izzy said in that interview that he didn't have a problem with touring and I think that's the truth. Even during the Illusions tour, in horrible circumstances, he seemed to find a way to make touring palatable to him by isolating himself on his bus and in his own hotel and practising his hobbies during free time. I remember Izzy saying a few times way back in the Chopaway days that he was looking for ways to tour with his solo material. I don't think he minds touring but I don't think he wants to pay for it, understandably. Jimmy Ashhurst said once in an interview that Izzy was paying for part of the Ju Ju Hounds tour out of his own pocket. But if you don't want to deal with management then your resources are limited.
I get the feeling that it's not so much the act of touring (although the regimentation of a big tour might be kind of hard for him after all these years) but dealing with the business aspects of it all. You never hear people around Izzy say that he hates to tour but you do hear them say that he hates the business side of music. I wonder what kind of management Izzy even has? The easiest way to get your Twitter verified as a famous person is to have your management do it. They have contacts that can get shit done quickly. Slash, Duff and Axl have managers, publicists, and lawyers both indidvidually and together that they deal with constantly. I wonder what negotiations were like? Did Izzy go in and represent hmself during negotiations? Because that would have been uncomfortable as fuck and would have led to some bad feelings. Management acts as a buffer in those situations. Did Izzy sit down and have to hear GNR management say to his face that he wasn't reliable and didn't mean anything financially to the band? That they already had Cheap Fortus? That he wasn't worth as much as even Duff? Because that would have been one hell of a punch in the gut and the kind of thing that would lead to the Avocado Incident and covers of Stuck in the Middle and Sunshine and Twitter posting about GNR imposters.
Anyway, more Izzy! Izzy on everything! Izzy anyway we can get him!

Too bad we probably won't get to hear Duff play with him. I wonder if they are even speaking? Rmember last year when Duff said that he wanted to play with Izzy "for the rest of my life?" What the hell? Come on guys.

Keep the annoyed Axl-gifs coming, girls!
But here: Tell me this is not Axl. Please.
That guy really does look like Axl. Like Axl cut his hair and took some time off in 1988 from Rockstarring to go to prom with a suburban rando.

I don't know- he likes doing shows in Europe apparently. Maybe his relative silence (and no interview in November) means they have worked something out. Then again that's what I hoped during mid summer when he was silent- that he would show up for the LA show. And that didn't happen.

Has anyone read Straight Whisky: A Living History of Sex, Drugs, & Rock 'N Roll on the Sunset Strip by Eric Quisling? That scene fascinates me and there's this...
I don't know if that link will work but it certainly sets a scene with the boys there.

Something that really stuck with me from Duff's book is him saying that the guys in that band had basically no cutural touchpoints in the 80's. They had no money and spent their time tryng to survive. Most people probably look back at the 80's and think Ghostbusters! Cheers! Reagan's America! But theses guys were in their own little (substance fueled) degenerate bubbles for a long time. It's not too hard to believe that they just got older and gained some perspective. All of them, not just Axl.

I love Duff and think he's a pretty intelligent guy, but I can't listen to him speak for any length of time. He sounds like Jeff Spicoli.

How weird to essentially retire when you are 31 years old. Even if I won the lottery tomorrow I still think I would want to work- it forces you to stay active, engaged and responsible. My 65 year old father retires next year and is already going crazy just thinking about it. Dealing with other people takes your mind off your own problems. Isolation generally just aggravates any psychological issues you have. What do you do all day every day?
I have been reading some of Marc Canter's old responses on Izzy and it's interesting. He says at one point that he didn't realize how "fragile" Izzy was. He also says a few times that Izzy talked to Axl and Beta about how he didn't appreciate the drug stories in Slash's book. I thought that was strange- it's so well known anyway. The Most Dangerous Band in the World. They were sold that way. They were pretty open about it. It must be annoying as fuck to be asked about it all the time but it's no surprise and nothing new. That being said- way to fucking biff it by asking Izzy to do videos at his house and telling him that his ex-girlfriend and partner in crime Desi was doing interviews the same day, Marc. Jesus.
Anyway, I found this. Racing Racing Racing away from all your troubles.

A few more Izzy/Slash quotes
Slash on Izzy:
When we first met we didn't click musically at all. lzzy and Axl had a band together. I wanted to get Axl and I didn't want to work with another guitar player because I'd never done it before. Working with other guitar players. I couldn't be in control of what was happening on the guitar. I wanted to get Axl away from lzzy, which was impossible. At the time when I met Axl we started a band and lzzy was in it, but he split to join a band called London. which I had just quit. That was cool, so me and Axl had a band going. That broke up. Eventually Axl joined L.A. Guns. Then lzzy joined L.A. Guns because everybody just wanted to be in a band and be working. That didn't work out and I got this call that said, do you want to come back and play with us? At first I didn't want to do it because me and Axl had been through some bad times together. I did it and worked with lzzy because that's what was happening. It was the only band I could find that I could relate to. If you listen to the record, me and lzzy don't play anything alike. Our sound is completely different. He doesn't play lead hardly at all, but his rhythm style is cool. I was a lot heavier than he was. But we worked it out and it wasn't even a conscious thing. We just played together and eventually got better and better and now we sort of jell more [Guitar For The Practising Musician, September 1988]
I never really have to go, "Izzy, play this part this way." He just plays his thing his own way, and we never really talk about it much. Last night, we went in and took two songs from scratch, just basic chord changes, and worked them into full songs. That's one of the things about me and Izzy working together, he knows where I'm at, and I know where he's at. And that's the way it's always been. I make up something that accompanies his part, and at the same time accents it, and he does the same with my parts. We have that kind of chemistry. We've always been good friends, so for us to get in a room and play is a very easy thing to do [Guitar One Magazine, 2002]Izzy on Slash:
I don't think [Slash] really wanted another guitar player, but it was kind of a package deal, Axl and I. We had periods where we actually wrote songs together and worked out our parts. There was a little bit more interplay on Appetite than Illusion. He was like a brother, but a brother who really wanted to be out on his own [Musician, 1992]
Originally I don't think Slash ever wanted to play with another guitarist. But we both really loved Aerosmith and the Stones and we just used that idea to make it all work. My favourite band was always the Ramones - just four guys wailing with power chords. At some point he and I hooked up and we started making it work. It became fun, just working with another guy like him, opposites attract, I suppose (...) He's a great guitar player - he'll go, he's a guy if you let him go, he's just off, out there. You gotta reel him in now and then, but that's what he loves to do. Listen to the end of Paradise City, I'm just doing the power chords, G and D. And Slash just goes manic in the last four bars. It's incredible. Those were great times...[Total Guitar, 2001]
I think they are just very different- both personality wise and as guitar player. They have been through a lot of shit but they obviously have learned to value each other as musicians.

Izzy doesn't have manboobs
He probably does, he just knows better then to jiggle them about onstage. My boyfriend saw GNR up close during the UYI tour , when I asked the difference between that show and the one we saw this summer he said, "In 1991 I knew too much about Axl's nuts, in 2016 I know too much about Richards Moobs."
And what kind of adult, who isn't a mobster or Batman, has an "enemies list?"

He looks so much more comfortable with Aerosmith than he ever did with NuGuns. You can hear him clearly and everything. Izzy's backing vocals are underrated. Patience never sounds right to me without him. And I love that he has let his "look" mature. He never tries to be what he was at 25. And we have different Izzy eras. Leather pants era, dreads era, mobster era.
