A lot of people would still be bitching even if it was the afd5 "just a nostalgia band" "cash grab" "where's the new music" and that one guy would be " wtf where's dj ashba?" LOL. Whatever I'm still pretty stoked for what it is. Whole damn thing could implode and be over. People will be super pissed they missed one of these shows if that happened but they are too busy whining how it's not meeting their expectations to enjoy it. Sure a lot of thing could be better about the whole thing, but it's freaking amazing to see what we got so far. Never thought it was gonna happen.

hahahaha WTF where's is DJ Ashba!!!

GnR has released one album of original material in the last 25 years.

Gnr's album release was eight years ago.

Slash and Duff come back to the band.....

And people want their first release to be a cover?

WTF is wrong with you people?

I don't think he was the one referring to covering Slither. I think he was talking about a new gnr song but I agree releasing a cover of  Slither would be incredibly lame for a multitude of reasons.

Like I said a music soundtrack ALA YCBM or Set Me Free would do wonders to generate excitement all over radio and social media and get the remaining tickets sold

  3. Slash's work has been far from generic. From Snakepit to VR to Slash to SMKC. He is one of the few keeping rock alive and reaching the masses when others have failed in their efforts to become relevant again like Van Halen, Black Sabbath & Soundgarden. He never rode any wave and sold out to Electronica, Nu-Metal, Country pop or generic Nickelback rock to get played on radio and sell records. He's been doing it the same way since 1985. Even going back to recording in the same manner like live and to tape. No pro-tools since VR. Matter of fact that's one of the biggest reasons he couldn't wait to get out of VR. That and the fact Scott's producers didn't know how to record his guitars properly and Scott's erratic behavior of course.

GN'R was a great band made up of the sum of its parts. They've released some great stuff individually primarily Slash and Izzy heck even Adler has his moments but it is best when they create together.

  4. A single when they don't even have an album?

If anything I could see a song for a summer blockbuster movie soundtrack. That would do wonders for the current tour and really boost sales. Just think about hearing a brand new gnr song written by those 3 on every rock radio left in America? However, we don't even know if Axl has been in the studio with them. My guess is he hasn't yet unless they were recording before Vegas and ACDC. I'm sure the rest of the guys have some ideas they've jammed on

    yes

they dont really need to play 7 appetite songs every night

and november rain, knockin on hevens door, live and let die, you coud be mine and patience every night

    ===

they could pick 7 or 8 songs out of these "every night" songs

next show pick 7 or 8 different ones (even if a few are repeated)

so the night you get jungle and paradise you dont get sweet child

the night you get easy and brownstone you dont get nightrain etc

that would add freshness to it

but they dont relly care about us

they care about the more casual fans who want to listen to the whole hit package crap

I would be so mad if they didn't play some of those songs like Nightrain! And I don't have the money especially at these prices to follow their bus around the country to catch all the songs they decided not to play at my show lol

Every band plays their staples. We should be thrilled we got Coma 3 out of 5 shows and that they don't take it away now that Axl can move around! All for extending the ALT list and swapping in the deeper cuts to keep things fresh

  6. i always found The Garden to be a little out there. Kinda shocking to me that it was released as a single accompanied with a video. Guess it had to do with their idol Alice singing on it. I think it's a cool song to have at the back of your catalog but I wouldn't was valuable set time playing it. Much rather here Don't damn me, locomotive, perfect crime even Garden of Eden. Any one of those songs will go over great live. The Garden & Dead Horse not so much imo. They need more uptempo straight up rockers to counter the all the hit ballads which they have to play.  Spice up the middle of the set where the crowds dies down with the ballads

Boring song. Needs some serious changes to make it enjoyable.

If they change or adding anything to Slither it won't be because of this opinion as it is in the extreme minority.

As for Steven hill will never be the full time drummer this go around. May next year if they honor AFD30 with Izzy.

For now the most you can hope for is the occasional guest spot on AFD songs but you won't hear him play Coma or YCBM for that matter. Certainly won't hear him play the CD songs.

If they play it, I really hope they play in the same tempo as the album version. The faster version played by Slash / Miles sucks IMO. Though their two-minute intro is great.

I never noticed the faster tempo with SMKC. Did they play it faster than the radio/album version?

I remember VR used to play it slower but once the song hit the radio it was speed up and shortened and VR played that way for a while. Eventually they weren't back to the extended bridge. During the liberated tour if I remember correctly.

I don't care to for the extended intro as much as I do for the extended bridge. Love Scott's oooo's over the awesome bass, drums & Slash's playing and how the song starts back up and ends with a blast.

The long intro works since they've been playing it at the end of the show as part of the encore. The build up to arguably on of Slashs best songs and Serling closer works. If GNR ever played it it would probably be earlier in the set. The long intro wouldn't be necessary.

Twat is a filler song except for Bucketheads' contribution. TIL is Axls' baby, it's mostly just piano.

Robin's riff in the middle is what imspired Bucket's amazing outro solo. Axl eluded to this around the Hammerstein shows in 06 when everyone assumed the guitar melody was all Buckethead after hearing the leaks. He put it out there that it was Robin and a lot of people just didn't want to accept it because prior to 06 Robin was their whipping boy from 01 to 06.

Mainly because Robin put his own spin on Slashs parts. Even had the first November rain solo stripped from him and given to Fortus because the fans reacted so negatively towards him. I actually preferred robins over Fortus trying to mimic slash. Fortus could never quite nail down the timing and bends that made the solo. Slashs feel can't be duplicated so why even try?  I'm sure someone can find the quotes from Axl.

As for TIL yes it's an Axl song but so was Novmember Rain. Robins solo and the orchestra in the bridge is perfection. Especially when you listen to it with headphones. Live is a different story as Axl struggles with the vocals just like he struggles with November Rain now. Although he might be able to get those right now after nailing ACDC.

Perhaps you didn't read my whole post Broham. I said the fan club should get first crack at tickets not that they should be the only ones or that they are bigger fans.

Considering the fact that yes I paid $85 for the stupid membership and yes happen to live in NY/NJ YES it would indeed be nice to havefirst dibs on a secret NY show.

btw. Still waiting for the shirt and sweatshirt which I paid $85 for.

i sure as hell didn't she'll out $85 to get seats in the noise merda at MetLife like I did. So yea this would be rather nice

  11. Outside of Chester and his lame vocals this is about as good a cover of paradise city not featuring any original gnr members. Everything else is great musically. Bass, guitars, drums and backing vocals. Robin's work on CD was outstanding.

Robin, Dave & Gilby on Rhythm is a heck of a triple tandem. Joey Castillo on drums badass!

I definitely would pay to see them in NY/NJ

  12. I'd give anything to see Slash and Robin collaborate. With Izzy not invested if I could redo history. I would go back to the period between 96-98 after Gilby was dismissed and tried everything to convince Slash to buy into writing new gnr material with Robin. It would've been the perfect follow up to UYI without all the drama around CD. Izzy could still be involved in the writing without any longterm commitments and still keep showing up for random guest appearances.

In a way it's ironic that VR went that route by pairing Slash up with Dave Kushner. Dave was a huge part of the modernization of VR. Without him it would've sounded more like tired Bad Company. Gotta credit duff for Kush. That was his guy as just before The Project happened he had recruited him for Loaded in 02. Scott and Matt were also very fond of Dave. Once they got out of the haze of drugs and alcohol not only did their playing improve but they became more focused. The ironic thing is thats what Axl wanted. It was his vision to an extent. I'm sure a lot of what was said about 'his vision' was exaggerated but modernizing and naturally progressing from UYI without losing GN'R's edge(Velvet Revolver) would've been a great progression that would've further extended the GN'R legacy. It just wasn't possible in 96.

Instead you hear things from haters like they were short-lived and overrated with only had 1, 2 or 3 good records compared to ________band.

I think Kalodnar has a valid point.........Artists seem to be the last people to be subjective of their own work. There are plenty of cases where a band wanted to leave off a song which ended up being the hit of the album but were convinced by the producer o include it..........

That's not what he is saying though. He is saying is very hard to convince established rock stars that the songs aren't good enough and he is right in some instances but not all.

The opposite of what you said has happened as well where a band believed in a song and the record company and producer didn't and the song became a huge hit.

I think at the time Erzin told Axl the songs weren't good enough or ready he was being honest and he was probably right. That was long time ago. I'm sure a lot of the songs on CD were written after Erzin was fired. Between 1999-2008. Shame how he was fire over something so dumb and reactionary. He was just being honest and thats exactly what Kalonder is saying. His shitty record with Aerosmith is irrelevant. The comment could've came from any world renowned producer and it would still ring true.

The song directly about Axl on that album was What Do You Want To Be

It would have to go back to a 3 guitar band then, because Izzy sure as hell isn't gonna play the sweeps on Better or the second solo on Chinese. Unless Axl agrees to just drop the CD songs.

same can be said for Steven and the people holding out hope he will be in detroit next week. Frank miraculously canned and Steven playing the loops on TWAT

  15. VR = Hit

    SMKC = Hit

I don't see how SLash & duff teaming up with Axl again won't produce more hit records.

Those guys are capable of starting a record in the beginning of the year and touring it by the end of the year. The only question is will Axl keep it from getting out and force SLash to go back to SMKC. Of course CD taking forever to be released wasn't all Axl's fault but even UYI took longer than it should
