What is with people on this forum with their "Gilby back" obsession ... The dude was a touring musician at a very desperate time for the band ... His recordings on Spaghetti is a fateful accident ... He was NEVER a Gunner & his 2 1/2 years with the band is nothing compared to Fortus's SIXTEEN

I agree with everything except for the part of his recordings on the Spaghetti Incident. That album is extremely underrated. I often find myself listening to Buick McKane, Human Being, Raw Power, Since I don't Have You, Ain't it Fun, New Rose and Down on the farm more than anything on the Original Albums. The production of that album is perfect as well, for a band like Guns N'Roses.

I guess I secretly wished the band had gone to that Punk Rock direction and recorded something themselves of that kind. It would have been a blast.

The record was released after the reunion dates. Now they are looking forward, with the reunion they were looking backwards by only playing 90's songs. But Billy Corgan is the opposite of Axl Rose. He's been releasing music continuously since 1991. Next year there will be another solo record, another SP record, and a lot of archive stuff will be coming out, not only SP music, even Zwan outtakes might see the light of day.

Exactly! That's what I wanted to say. To me it can't be just the label's fault... there's gotta be something else. It's hard for me to imagine that the label would boycott any GNR Albums during a period of 20 years, after all... Chinese Democracy did come out! So that excuse doesn't stick!

I mean this is just opinions, and we're entitled to our own opinions. I'm not passing judgement here, but wouldn't people be happy if they were artists, and wouldn't the thing that you would like the most be creating and releasing music ?!? Isn't your art what it's all about ?!? I just can't understand that...

I'm just saying man, look at the STP reunion.  It lasted 5 years, had cancelled tour dates, a forgettable album, they cancelled plans for a Core anniversary box set and tour, then Scott was fired from the band and passed away a few years later.

The Smashing Pumpkins went on a reunion tour earlier this year and it was a massive failure which they could barely sell tickets too.

Axl is sharing a stage with Slash and Duff again, they went on a critically acclaimed tour that lasted almost 3 years and sold out 60,000+ seat stadiums.  When i saw GnR for the first time in 2006 it was in a amphitheater that was 2/3 full.  Axl at one point became the butt of jokes in the music industry and has gained back all the respect he lost over the years.

They dug into the archives and gave us a cool box set, talks of a live album and talks of a new studio album.   This is such an exciting time to be a GnR fan man.  So many great things could happen.  How many people predicted this would end up a total failure?  Well fuck them because it was a total success.  And I am fucking ecstatic about it.

The Smashing Pumpkins went on a reunion tour WITH an album that they have just RELEASED, and at least they gave something for the fans to chew on, and there's always hope for more new stuff because they don't take 10 years to come up with another album...

I always felt that CD sounded watered. To me it lacked a more deep and proeminet bass sound, and it also has so many sound layers, I bet that in "TWAT" you can hear 5 different guitar parts at the same time + plus bass + plus sub-bass, plus all vocal layers, plus the piano, plus the orchestra!

I love you Axl Rose, but you drive us mad! :bitchfight:

You're absolutely right on the bass, and I would add the that the drums are also watered down in most of the songs (The title track Chinese Democracy is a perfect example of that, that intro right after the scream is soft as well, it lost that explosion factor, it has no bass whatsoever), and the background sounds are too loud on some songs (cacther) and too low on others (There Was a Time, Sorry, Better).

The thing is they made that Best Buy deal actually to cut any losses, what they count in is all best buy sales, which don't reflect actual fans buying the record. If I remember it right, at one point the album had a major discount price, also they had that Doctor Pepper thing in between.

I don't know, I guess the album also didn't sell (if compared to the prior albums), because there was no real promotion, the real fans already had all the songs in at least three to four mixes, it also did not help that "Better" was the first single, because there are more important songs in that record than "Better", that did not resemble classic GNR at all. People didn't feel it was GNR, maybe if they chose Madagascar or Street of Dreams as the first single the story would be different.

To me it's way simpler, people didn't buy records anymore back then (I bought it for the booklet and to support the band), that's why I feel a new GNR record is compared to "shoot yourself in the foot".

Release EPs, 2 to 4 songs each, release individual singles... I don't know.

I don't agree with the part of the single. The first single showcased was "Chinese Democracy", but I think "Better" is clearly the best song on the record. I don't think that there is a better song to have been made a single of, than "Better".

if you had put "Madagascar" or "Street of Dreams", the album would have immediately suffer, and it would expose Chinese Democracy as being a "soft record". This was the re-introduction to GNR, so I think the first single would have always to be a full on rocker type of song, that would put GNR in its original category, even though it sounded different from Classic GNR stuff.

I bought the CD and LP when it came out. After I found out the LP was a terrible pressing, I tried a few more hoping to get something better but I was never able to. Turns out oretty much all copies of CD on vinyl as junk, which blows!

Only time I bought more copies was when it ended up in the discount bins at the $1 stores in the US. I bought some more copies at that time for friends who ended up liking the album.

I remember people buying a bunch of copies on release day like you're saying though. Crazy!

I don't collect Vinyl (even though I should), but I had heard about the problem of CD sounding like crap on Vinyl.

Care to elaborate on that? What really is the problem? Is it the sound quality that poorer than expected?

Cause in my opinion the production of the album is very crappy. Specifically on songs like Chinese Democracy, Sorry, Better, There Was a Time and Shacklers Revenge, Catcher in the Rye, I think it's very noticeable.

Axl apparently had a record ready for a 2016 release but it got delayed because of the reunion. If everything was written/arranged and all Slash and Duff had to do was lay down new parts, it would be do-able in 6 months.

Even less than 6 months... with those two, it would take weeks. I don't think it's only gonna be Axl's record though, so it will take longer.

  8. My Prediction:

I find it highly doubtful that there will be a new album in the next 3 years.

No Leaks in December or January - Fake News!

T- Rex Cover - Fake News!

Best Of Live Album / Bluray - A Possibility for 2019!

The band embarks on a new tour next Fall of 2019 and continued in 2020.

I think it's fair to say that the Use your Illusion remaster boxset could be a reality in 2020, when those albums mark 30 years of existence.

  9. The last time they threw us with a live album compilation (The real band that is), it was a Goodbye to the Classic Band cd for the fans.

The last time New GnR did a live album, it ended up being a goodbye, since the band split up not too long after, and a semi-reunion happened.

It's hard for me to believe that they will release a live album. Historically it doesn't make sense, and how much market is there for a third live album with the same songs on Live Era and on Appetite for Democracy ?? I honestly don't see it happening.

I don't think that cover thing is true either.

For 2019 I expect that they will announce more tour dates, and maybe a new album at the end of the year 2019, or a Greatest Hits around that same time, if the new album release fails. I could be wrong, but that's what I think will happen.

I don't know why anyone is hating on a live album being the next release. It will probably be a live blu ray (maybe even with a full tour documentary) + accompanying cd set, like Opeth's recent Garden of Titans. We're basically getting the cd as a bonus.

Axl and co seem positive to get to work on the new album (going by axl's speech at the last show) and this release would just be something they can give us without distracting from their new albums goals. I honestly hope this is the plan.

Where have you been?? Have you seen any release of GNR (without counting on the AFD remaster) with extras??

The first official release of a 'new' song since Chinese Democracy will be a cover.

That said, i don't see the problem with Guns recording one song for a tribute album alongside others huge artists. That's pretty cool actually, and indicates Guns' relevance again.

Who the hell wants a cover?!? This is one of thoses cases where you wish they don't release anything and call it a day,  "nothing is better than something".

Where are those damn hoarders when you need'em?
