  1. The 4 tracks were

Scraped, Sorry and This I Love as others mentioned.

Of course shortly before the album dropped, bits of and full versions of these tracks leaked, some with annoying audio insertions, but they were album versions and not unfinished, or discarded mixes or "demos" as before.

I too prefer many of the leaked tracks over the album version. Some were far less layered, and didn't suffer from overproduction.  I do like some elements of released album tracks over the demos, but also like some demo bits that were missing or mixed low in the album versions. Axl surrounds himself with talent, so I'm sure it was difficult putting these songs together with so many great parts to choose from.

I'd love for Shackler's to be all Buckethead on the album, same with Riad. I can't stand Bumble's Riad solo, hopefully they scrap all of his work (I did enjoy some of it though) in favor of keeping Bucket's parts on songs he worked on in a future album. I wish they kept the 1999 version of Catcher, as another mentioned here. I also like the 2001 The Blues, and the 2001 Maddy.  They were just more "raw" I suppose. Maybe one day they will release the 1999 version of the album as a bonus or something.  Haha though that's unlikely to ever come to fruition.

I can't stand both! Buckethead's Riad solo and Bumblefoot's Riad solo... but Bumble's was little better...

Buckethead's Riad solo it's probably the worst solo I've ever heard in my life...

I kinda disagree..... but it's just my opinion, of course. I don't like the way he looked in 1994, in that RNR Hall of Fame night, he looks like out of himself and his hair is falling already.

If this picture is from July, 1998.... his arrest in Phoenix was in February 1998 too, right? And in the mugshot he isn't wearing anything on the head, although his hair looks quite strange, like an implant or something.

    296.jpg

The serious look is the same, though.....

IMO, the drastic change in looks begin around 1999... when he was attending that sport shows and he is interviewed by some reporter. That's a complete different Axl, in all senses.

His hair is shorter so it looks like it's combed in both directions. Just a different haircut. I have natural hair implants (they're made of my own hair from other areas of my head), and although it's a little different from having the fake hair plants that they used to do in the 90's with fake hair. I don't think that looks like a hair implant at all.

On the other hand Axl looks like he has crying before he took the picture (take a look at his left eye). His face looks a little bit fuller than when he was touring in 93 or 94, which is normal... when you're touring you're constantly exercising, so he was more in shape than he was in that pic.

Maybe I need to watch it again. I thought it was corny. I thought the plot was OK, though. Definitely several steps below the Terminator films IMO

Yeah comparing to The Terminator it's clearly a long shot. Terminator 1 and 2 were his Classics. End of days is a good movie though. The guy that plays the Devil was a great actor.

I never said it was. I said it was never on an album. It was released as a single, and included on the film’s soundtrack. I have it on both of the above, and even own the film End of Days on Blu-ray.

The soundtrack for that movie is excellent, far more enjoyable than the movie itself. Haha

The movie isn't that bad either. For an Arnold movie, it's one of his best, in my opinion. The plot isn't that bad either.

I know all of that. To me, it's just another situation where Axl makes up excuses for something when it's not successful. If OMG would've been a big hit single, he never would've made that claim.

No offense but I don't think that that's the case this time.

The proof of that is that the album version mix is almost as good of a quality as a DAT Tape. it's not monaural, but it's almost like it. There's instruments on the song that aren't correctly stereo wised mixed or placed on the correct channels through the track.

The new version is more properly mixed and sounds less as a demo as the Original Released song, and it's still a demo too. I think that's one of the reasons Tommy Stinson said on an interview that Jimmy Iovine fucked the Chinese Democracy project.

I think that at the time the original version was released, they were still looking to add instruments, sound and making the right mix for the song, and I think they weren't able to do it right away, because the drummer was fired and Dave Navarro wouldn't show up.

Oh My God sounds worst than the first ever Better demo, and that's saying something.

  6. To be honest, some of them are intriguing and I could see Axl using them, even though they were labeled as fake by himself.

No Love Remains, Friend or Foe, Suckerpunched, Closing in on you are all good titles in my opinion. I mean except for some exceptions, they all sound better than say "If The World", "This I Love", "IRS" or even "Shackler's Revenge" (This one actually sounds like a working title, that stood a working title)...

Do you think the way the album begins, lives up to the expectation it had? The “mysterious” riff, the voices, and Axl’s trademark scream.

In my head, the intro sounds like a lot of excited fans talking about GNRs possible return, and after that Axl emerges from exile to reclaim his title (as someone here already said) with that classic, epic, powerful scream. It’s arguable that the song doesn’t live up to the hype of the intro, but still.

Even though Axl’s return album came 7 years later than his actual return, I think the intro is still one of the greatest parts of the whole album. It gives me goosebums every time I hear it.

Do you think another vibe would have been better for the intro? Let’s be honest, with all that happened to the album before it’s release, the intro summarizes perfectly the mystery that the whole era had. Before and after it’s release, with the leaks, CD2 and all.

My concern on the album version of this song is that you can't really hear the bass or the drums at times... and so it sounds like a big clusterfuck. I prefer the earlier version. The intro is fine, but it should have been shorter. Like instead of 1 minute, make it 30 seconds.

Portugal however is a beautiful area of the world.

Thanks! I think California is too :)

Didn't get to live there though. I lived close to Seattle for a couple of years. Went to California on various occasions.

Oh and by the way, nothing like starting a day with a proper English breakfast! ;)

Best place? That's certainly debatable, what are you basing that on?

Well to me it is. Lives by the beach, on the State of California (which to me is also the best state in the US, of course it's expensive though). Good weather, good food, good wine... To me it's the best place to live in the US, or at least that is my impression.

Plus he has Las Vegas, Mexico and Hawaii at a fairly close distance, which is always nice for vacations.

I live in Portugal, part of my country, or should I say the place where I live kinda looks like an older, antique/vintage California. Meaning it's not so modern, doesn't have the modern LA part of the town, but it has the palm trees, the beaches and everything else, so I kind of identify myself with that area of the US. We even have a bridge just like the San Francisco one:

  11. The whole reunion thing was a blessing for that 2016 year tour alone.

After that you would think that reuniting with your "creative twin souls" would make you wanna push yourself to the limit and come up with a new album to celebrate the reunion. it's not that bad we got the AFD boxset. It's much better than getting a live show dvd like we did a couple of years ago, but you would think that they would be ecstatic to record new songs, as they're living their dream, and they care so much about the art.

Instead what this reunion did was to kill 15 years of GNR music, where probably more than half of it, it will never see the light of the day, and also kill the small chances that we had to ever read that Axl's autobiography that he was writing, because right now, you wouldn't wanna ruin the new friendship with Slash over a book.

Hey, it's not like what we've heard of Jackie Chan or The General have the goods to be big singles or hits anyways, so we gotta see it as it is right now, and right now... It will be fun one time/year, once they come to your town!
