Silverchair were way too metal at first to be Nirvana in pyjamas. The only comparison was that they were a threesome and the singer had shoulder length unwashed blonde hair like Kurt.
Frogstomp was metal??

Weren't those grunge bands considered alternative? Because they didn't call themselves ''grunge'', no one even knew what it meant, except a name given to rock bands from Washington, but then all of a sudden every band that wasn't just metal, hardrock or punk was called ''grunge'' after that. Bands like Bush and Silverchair were massive by the mid and late 90's and they hated being called grunge.
Silverchair = Nirvana in Pyjamas.
That is why they were called grunge!
I don't even know what grunge means!

I think Axl's vocals in the chorus of slither are brilliant. The way he harmonises with duff is genius.

Prostitute is boring.
I'd be happy never to hear SCOM or KOHD again.
I want new music to sound more chinese democracy than AFD.
Slash is a great lead guitarist but a poor songwriter.
Izzy is not a good enough guitarist to play stadiums.
I though the AFD box set was great value and the fake tattoos were an essential item for all 'real' GNR fans (just kidding).

The quote you replied to was "most musicians would say that GNR were the last great rock band" - so you kind of do need to be a musician to disagree!
You sound like Dan Quayle welcoming his fellow astronauts!

Fuck me Axl, if everyone did everything based on whether or not they felt 100 million percent comfortable then nothing would ever get done, you think fighters feel 100% comfortable during a ring walk, or football players 5 mins before kick off? Of course not but y'know what they show up and put a shift in cuz of this word called professionalism.
'work on himself', fuck that new age hippie shit, the way you work on yourself is you work and then after a lifetime of said work you have a body of work to look back on so when its REALLY time to reflect, in the nursing home with the pissbag strapped to your thigh, you can cast your mind back and go, OK, what was all that about? Then turn to the body of work and cultural contribution and go 'right, yeah, THATS what that was about'.
And that applies for everybody, from lead singers to shelf stackers, we're all fuckin' cogs in the overall machinery of society, if every shelf stacker in the world wanted to sit inside with a big bag of weed and a TV lisence to 'work on' themselves before they felt right to go out and fuckin' put a shift in there'd be some empty fuckin' shelves across the planet in much the same way that if every artist worth his salt stayed indoors working on themselves and reached their fuckin' 60s having released what amounts to 3 full albums (albeit one quite large one out of that) and an EP well then our culture would be a lot less richer one.
This sort of tough guy shit gets me down.
The leading cause of death in men aged 20 to 30 is suicide.
This sort of attitude of basically telling people to harden up is a huge issue in society.
Depressed? Just cheer up.
Anxious? Don't worry about it.
This attitude belittles mental health issues and leads to people feeling that a condition they have, often caused by a chemical imbalance, is their fault.
It's so easy to sit at a computer and be a macho man about these issues but you're really just displaying a major lack of understanding.
A little bit of empathy wouldn't go astray - try to understand the difficulties other people can have in life.
Just comparing Axl to other musicians who handle things better is not reasonable. People deal with things differently.
Check out www.beyondblue.org.au
Might be time to update your thinking.
Can't speak for others but your tough guy act is pretty unimpressive to me.

on the sidenote...Ax must be under some serious medication. back in the day he would leave the stage for someone taking pics or recording bootleg from the crowd, but he now doesn't leave for Frank's playing, WTF!?
I seriously mean, WTF!? Gotta be medication or deafness. Did he hear how Frank plays Don't cry on pro shot or sdb like Rio 2017?
Dizzy would do a better job.
Fair go mate - Dizzy's too busy on the bongo's!

Just curios why everyone assumes Axl's new stuff to be Chinese related music?
If he is playing with his "old" band members, wouldn't he want to do music that relates to old GnR?
If Slash wasn't into creating Chinese type material back then, why would he want to now? Has he made anything similar to Chinese Democracy music?
Why couldn't the band be working on GnR type music, not Chinese Democracy music?
Just some thoughts I had and they could be wrong. I will take ANY style of new Guns music!!!
I agree. There's no reason to think that every song Axl has is from the chinese democracy era.
He's a genius so he would always be creating music.
Just because you're not releasing music doesn't mean you're not writing any.
Would love slash and duff to work on anything axl has got going.

Sounds cool mate. Nice work! I like the album Lost too.

As frustrating as it is (when all you want is new music), I can't help but love Axl's attitude.
Axl must be the only person I've ever heard of that has never done anything just to keep the peace.
If Axl doesn't want to do something (or if he does) then he'll do it no matter what people think or how much money he is offered.
I think that's awesome - probably because I could never be that way!

You're basically asking us to predict the way the wind is going to blow next week.
Gnr can and will do whatever they like, what we think/hope they do is really of no consequence to them. They care not!
Anyway, 99.9% of the people on here say 'no more touring 'til a new record is ready and in the hands if the label for imminent release'... Unfortunately well over half would do cart wheels if GNR announced the next leg of NITL... Which is a big reason why GNR have toured and toured, and toured for 10 years without having to release a new album.
Boy have I got news for you - They can predict the way the wind blows next week!!

Then we could have a tour with Gilby, Tracey and Roberta! Then With Tracii Guns and Rob Gardner. Then a tour with Pink singing the outro to patience. They should definitely tour with Don Henley too.
I have zero interest in the AFD5 touring and playing the same songs until they're in their 90's.
I think the only possible way for GNR to move forward is to write new music.
That is now probably the only thing that is going to get me really excited.

Coming off a massively successful reunion tour that had enough original members to satisfy the older fans, Guns N' Roses would be wise not to take too much time off.
Not quite sure how the saying goes, but it's something like "you gotta stoke the fire while it's still hot". The band can't be idle to the point where everything they accomplished over the last 2 1/2 years is forgotten. I think as long as there's something new by the end of calendar year 2019, there'd be no serious momentum lost. Even if it's just a couple of new tunes for a soundtrack....they need something to maintain interest.
I always say you can't teach a leopard new spots. I'm afraid we'll have to burn that bridge when we come to it.
But then again maybe we shouldn't judge a book before it's hatched.
We all have opinions but if you open that can of worms then you're going to have to lie in it.
Hopefully they'll do a full 360 but at the end of the day we may be barking up the wrong horse.

I think Scraped would likely be the worst song on the last N-Sync album, let alone a GNR release.
It's staggering that that made the cut, which is why I've always questioned the quality of Oklahoma, Atlas and the others....
I reckon it was about trying to balance the album out.
There were so many ballads and scraped is more of a rock song.
I'm hoping that's the case anyway! Then we can hold out hope that the general and Atlas shrugged etc are top quality.
At least Slash and Duff are back to take care of the rock songs in any future album!

Yep, I’m anti-female because I dislike a member of the band who dresses, styles, and acts like a member of a Japanese Pop group.
If anyone else in the band did that, I would call them out on that too.
But please, keep telling me how me not liking what Melissa brings to the band makes me a sexist, and how I fail to see the great vision of what she’ll bring to the table of a bunch of aging old rockers.
Bring back Tracy and Roberta I say. At least they were rock n roll attitude and served a purpose...
You keep missing the point mate!
The problem with your first post isn't that you said you dislike her musical contribution. That's an opinion you're entitled to.
It's when you bring looks/gender/sexuality into it that people pretty quickly lose interest in your opinion.

Calling a young female a "blue haired thing" is pretty poor form really and achieves nothing other than tainting the opinion you're trying to get across.
Adding "it's not because she's female" is a bit like "i'm not racist but....."
GNR gave up on the misogynistic stuff in the early 90's mate - might be time for you to move forward too!
Unfortunately what GNR is to you differs from what it is to Axl Rose!

Let's break this down. There is a difference between wanting new music and wanting to release new music and feeling entitled to new music. There are some that feel entitled which breeds negativity when it doesn't happen. It is not a routine. It is a mindset. We can't control the release of new music and even the band can't because the record company stood in the way which was one of the reasons Chinese Democracy wasn't released earlier and the followups and remixes were not released. We all want new music but the feeling entitled to new music is overall a negative mindset. It is not a routine like Jarmo would try pulling. Not feeling entitled will prevent a lot of anger which has happened when music is not released. Now lets discuss the record company not wanting to release new music because most of the recognizable faces that sell were not in the band. Now they are back for the most part. Re recording the parts of Chinese Democracy era songs with Slash and Duff would be very enticing to the label. New music is what we want even though some would complain as they feel entitled to something that was freshly written by the current lineup. Axl wanted to release music but the label stood in his way because they wanted Slash back. Now if Axl, Duff, and Slash said it this year or next year that they were working on some new music for GNR it would be more likely than Tommy and Dizzy saying it. Should we feel entitled to it? No. The reason is that there could be more road blocks as the Label may want to extend the record deal for another album or two and the label may prevent any releases until they get the deal they want for their profit. Ideally it would be best for GNR to get out of the contract they have and release music on their own. So there are things that could be standing in the way of a release of new material. Once again it maybe best not to feel entitled to prevent disappointment and hope for the best.
Sorry mate, I must have read this 10 times and I still don't understand what you're saying!
How are you separating:
1. Wanting a new album and being disappointed with not getting one year after year despite constant assurances that it's on its way soon.
2. Feeling entitled to a new album and being disappointed with not getting one year after year despite constant assurances that it's on its way soon.
Are you assuming people feel entitlement more than just want? Or do you read minds?
In my opinion people are more than entitled to be disappointed and upset with the lack of progress in terms of a new album.
A lot of people have loved this band for the majority of their livebs and WANT some new fucking music and feel disappointed (and a little pissed off) when it doesn't happen time and time again.

I'm just saying man, look at the STP reunion. It lasted 5 years, had cancelled tour dates, a forgettable album, they cancelled plans for a Core anniversary box set and tour, then Scott was fired from the band and passed away a few years later.
The Smashing Pumpkins went on a reunion tour earlier this year and it was a massive failure which they could barely sell tickets too.
Axl is sharing a stage with Slash and Duff again, they went on a critically acclaimed tour that lasted almost 3 years and sold out 60,000+ seat stadiums. When i saw GnR for the first time in 2006 it was in a amphitheater that was 2/3 full. Axl at one point became the butt of jokes in the music industry and has gained back all the respect he lost over the years.
They dug into the archives and gave us a cool box set, talks of a live album and talks of a new studio album. This is such an exciting time to be a GnR fan man. So many great things could happen. How many people predicted this would end up a total failure? Well fuck them because it was a total success. And I am fucking ecstatic about it.
It's going to be a pretty dull forum if we aren't allowed to express an opinion!

To be honest with you, I've had it with this reunion... We had what we wanted...but I just wish we could go back to 2006 when we had Guns and Velvet Revolver as two separate sources of music. Guns with leaks, because they wouldn't release the album, and Velvet Revolver with their albums...
Honestly, I have came to the conclusion that I would rather hear something different from Axl, like whatever came on Chinese Democracy or would be on the follow ups, then a new hard rock song with Slash in it. Cause I'm afraid it will sound like anything else out there right now... Maybe I'm wrong... but I guess I'm in a Chinese Democracy phase... I'm curious about the material we haven't heard, and somehow I wanna hear it without Slash... Chinese Democracy isn't anywhere near the other albums, but it sounded fresh and different, and interesting. That's kind of what I would look for in a Guns record today I guess.
I guess we always want what we don't have...
I hear what you're saying there - but what I'm hoping is that some of the leftover CD stuff might push Slash to another level again. Much like some of the Axl songs on UYI did. Estranged, NR, Breakdown, etc.
Get him out of his comfort zone and he seems to come up with some great ideas.
He can roll out a lot of the stuff on Living the Dream in his sleep. He needs someone to push him to another level like Axl will.
I definitely agree that I would like GNR to continue down that CD road rather than trying to repeat AFD. I want Axl's crazy ass, over the top, kitchen sink style of music mainly with just a few of the best straight rock songs they can come up with.

Yeah I agree with that - were a much better band when they found their own sound.
Diorama is a brilliant album in my opinion.
Not that I'm a big Silverchair fan - or Nirvana for that matter.
Alice in Chains were my favourite from that era - I think they were definitely more metal than grunge.
