I get the frustration, for a 5-6 year period they could have been as big as the stones. But they never got the next 10 years.

They Fucked it big time. From 87-93 you got AFD, UYI 1 & 2 and an EP in Lies and cover album with TSI.

After roughly the same length of time together as GNR were after the above, the  stones were only starting to record Beggars Banquet, with Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers and Exile On Main St, yet to come.

If GNR had put out 4 albums like that or even 2 the story would be different.

If my mother had wheels she'd be a bicycle!!

It amazes me that Axl copped so much shit when others like Patton and Cobain were assholes of the same magnitude.

Patton is still an asshole. Really seems like a complete tool.

I never got the thing with Cobain - he seemed like the original pretentious hipster to me! Everytime I've read or watched anything about him I've realised I'm not a fan of him as a person.

Btw i loved fnm as a teenager and dont mind a bit of nirvana either. Im just talking about how they come/came across.

My sole argument is why the fuck aren’t they playing more old shit if they aren’t going to give us new music! And its so hard to say that, especially when they have given us Locomotive, Dead Horse, and now You’re Crazy, just in the last 6 months.

how much have we lost in variety since then though? Duff doesn’t play New Rose anymore. Out Ta Get Me hasn't been played since 17. Even CD songs that made a special appearance like Twat and Catcher aren’t played as often.

Then we have other songs that are synonymous with GNR, but yet aren’t played at all. Mama Kin hasn’t been played regularly since 1988. Some other covers they’ve done like Since I Don’t Have You have never been played live.

Are we ever going to hear Slash on a song like I.R.S. ??? Seems like he's played every CD song except that one and Rhiad & The Bedouin's at this point. So Fine hasnt been played since 1993 for fucks sake and Duff plays it at his solo shows!!! You’re telling me Axl cant even sing 1/3rd a new/old song?! The key here is variety! They have so many songs they could choose from and yet they choose NOT to play them. Is Slash just going to tease “I Don’t Care About You” before Jungle, or can they bust it out one of these nights? Again, another Its So Easy Axl vocal, with the whole band singing “fuck you!”

Are song’s like ‘Don’t Damn Me’, ‘Anything Goes’, and ‘Back Off Bitch’ a “moment in time” and will never be able to translate live? Axl could literally catch a breath on DDM and sing it like Its So Easy.

    God damn i am high.

All of this is spot on mate.

To top it all off they continue to pile on covers like the seeker, black hole sun and wichita lineman night after night!

Not to mention 15 minute KOHD - about as interesting as a matt sorum drum solo from 1991!

With all due respect, coming from a guy who travels to the UK often for work and has many friends there, why do people like you feel the need to attack/trash/insult an entire country?  Yet, here you are, on a forum for a band from the USA (a rather drab band at this point, mind you), insulting all Americans.  I can confidently say you don't speak for all Brits, as the ones I know have a lot more common sense to not blindly throw insults like this around.  But I digress.

I, too, find these tributes to Kobe quite tacky.  All low-flying aircraft that day were grounded in LA due to the weather.  Someone made a foolish and selfish decision to fly... probably Kobe himself... and it cost him and 8 others their lives.   It's a tragedy, but tragedy's happen every day to common people all over the world, including 'classless' Americans, as you've so dubbed all of us.  They're all a shame, but tributes to the uber-privileged are just so tiresome.  We can agree there.

That aside, did you ever consider that Axl lives in LA and is a HUGE Lakers fan?  As is others in the band?  Kobe was known to be quite the stubborn arse, just like Axl, so they, I'm sure, connected on that level in a way we couldn't possibly understand.  If I could offer a bit of advice, if they want to pay a tribute to somebody they admired, whether you or I think it's tacky or not, let them do it and try not attack an entire populus of people from another country... on a forum for a band from that country.

Does anybody on here ever attack Brits for their obsession with a defunct monarchy?   Can I insult you because all that's all over the papers and news channels in your country is all about Harry and Meghan?  Two people that have absolutely no bearing on any of our lives.  Is it tacky when your country pays tribute to Princess Dianna at every turn, to this day?  Can we Americans call all Brits lifeless fools for the constant obsession over the royal family... the most uber-privileged group of people in the world that your hard earned money supports via taxation?

Will you be upset when Elizabeth kicks the bucket?  Will you be okay with the 'tacky' tributes to her when the time comes?

This is my first post ever on this forum, and probably the last (I like GNR and like to see photos and videos from their concerts... this forum seems to be a good place to find that stuff), but I just had to chime in when I read this comment.  It's incredibly insulting coming from someone in a country where it's people do the same types of things, and practically adore anything American.   A quick look at the 20 most popular websites visited by people in Britan in 2019 based on user traffic (https://www.lexiconnect.co.uk/top-20-uk-websites.html) finds that just about all of them have their home or origins in America (Google, Youtube, Facebook, etc.).  #16 on that list?  Pornhub.  That's classy.  American too!

So, what's really tacky here is someone from across the pond who feels the need to attack/insult an entire nation because he doesn't like some tribute to some American sports hero at some American band's concert, in America, on a forum for said American rock band.

As if his people never put their celebrities up on a pedestal as if they're some kind of Queen or King or Prince or something.   How silly would that be in the 21st century?

    Pot, meet kettle.

I see you have a similar sense of humour to Axl...

Yeah I really hope this is leading to a new album, and not just a nostalgia tour for $.

There's no way in the world Frusciante would rejoin for a nostalgia tour!

They'll be working on a new album at the moment for sure.

Unfortunately loving GnR has beaten us down and we're suspicious of everyone's motives now

More likely an excuse because he can’t play what Navarro wrote with them....

John Frusciante is a good guitarist for RHCP, and I hope he writes some more great stuff with them now that he’s back. But a great guitar player he is not.

I remember seeing the Californication tour and John was sloppy as shit. He couldn’t even play his own solos live.

John Frusciante is a guitar genius and can play anything he likes!

He doesnt play the studio solos on any songs - he improvises every concert.

The californication tour was after he literally had not played guitar for 6 years - so yeah he was a bit rusty.

I love janes addiction but dave navarro is not even close to being in frusciantes league as a guitarist.

i want axl to dedicate DTJM to me and this board it'd go something like this

"You know the internet, I'm not too sure I'm a fan of it. They'll say shit about you, you can't control it and they'll call you out for taking their money, not releasing new music and censoring their posts. Well home fucks. If you think my voice is shot and fernando is a douche and why the old guys aren't in the band, then I got news for you...

I actually think that we could hear some of those.

I can't see why that lyric would stop them from playing Pretty Tied Up at all. I think that is the most likely out the bunch they we could hear.. I doubt they will play Bad Obsession but I doubt Axl is afraid to say "cunt"...  One In a Million obviously not. I doubt they would ever play BOB but still, not because of the lyrics but more because I don't think they really care for it unfortunately. I really don't think Axl and Slash are to worried about the lyrics not being PC. Just my opinion of course. I wouldn't put it past them playing Dust N' Bones with Duff on vocals.. He has played it solo .. 14 years? I would never rule out an Izzy random appearance.

    My two cents :)

Yes on the other 3 songs you want to hear.. Although I didn't like The Garden on that last Saskatoon bootleg.. I am down for any song 86-93.. I honestly like them all.. Even My World

Hey mate, just wondering why you didn't like the garden from the Saskatoon bootleg?

    I thought it was amazing!

I do my best to stay out of debates/arguments on the internet but I can't let this stand. Keith, Clapton, and Harrison inspired an entire generation of guitarists. Are you aware of the massive influence the Stones and the Beatles had? The influence Clapton has on virtually every blues player? They're not very culturally relevant these days but to say they weren't massively influential is mind-boggling.

Try to remember that this discussion is not about whether they are influential but about whether they eat noodles or not.

If you never heard of The Band or who played on It it's your fault not mine...

It's like the other day I was talking to a lady at work. She was having a go at me for not having heard of something.

I said Listen Karen we all have different experiences throughout our lives which introduce us to varied aspects of the world. What is normal to one person might be unheard of to another.

You can't compare what one person knows and has experienced to another because they are going to be so varied based on their relationships, life experience, socioeconomic status, etc.

So I said Karen back off a little and get out of my face. It's not my fault I've never heard of "toilet paper".

You're coming around.😊  I was just wondering how Clapton is a dork as a guitarist?

Just went back to check what this conversation was about.

    Turns out its about "noodling"!!

    Who would have thought!

No i was just being silly mate. End of the day at work and its gone to my head!

Harrison is great - and doesn't noodle.

Nothing dorkey about claptons guitar playing. I really love his playing. Haven't heard him noodle.

Keith Richards IS a rhythm guitarist (although wrote the lead to gimme shelter - one of the great lead guitar lines and great songs) so it would be a bit weird if he noodled!

Still don't know who Robbie Robertson is but that's not his fault - don't reckon he's heard of me either!
