  1. I'm really curious how all of you Gn'R lifers made it through the storm that was Chinese Democracy? What in god's name did you do all those years to curb your anticipation? Where do we go now?

Let me summarize my Gn'R history-- I've been a fan of the band and the music (the singles) for as long as I can remember. My mother sang Sweet Child O' Mine to me since I've been in the womb. I remember thinking as a kid that Don't Cry was one of the coolest fucking videos I've ever seen. I grew up in LA so bands like Gn'R and Red Hot Chili Peppers have always been pretty accessible through local radio-- But I haven't always been such an avid fan until recently.

I hadn't heard about Chinese Democracy until like 2007. I listened to a track on YouTube, believe it was Chicken Dinner, and didn't think much of it-- But the little promotion there was back in 08 really reinvigorated my interest and I started taking a liking to the demos and the back catalog. So long story short, I didn't have to wait long for Democracy.

But now it's been a good few years, and I've played the fuck out of all the albums-- And while I still would call Gn'R my favorite band, it's hard to advocate for the lack of releases. I've gone back and listened to about every old demo or alternate version I could find.... But I'm deeply afraid of it growing stale.

I'm genuinely curious as to how many of you made it through the long haul, with such patience and devotion to the band? Cause-- heck, I'm preaching to the choir here, but it's tough being a Gn'R fan. There's a lot of waiting... Lots of unfulfilled promises... And lot's of bitter MF'rs on here that will shit on the band at any chance they get.

It's not hard at all, but some people around this board in particular seem to believe the band owes them something, and should be run the way they see fit, which is total BS. So I guess the one thing that annoys me most about the band is its fans, or the "we're not really fans we just like to cupcake" segment.

I'm a fan of Tool (album every four or five years), A Perfect Circle (seeing them live this year, they haven't had an album since what, 2003/4?), Nine Inch Nails (The Fragile took what, 6 years?), etc. Long waits aren't a huge deal, especially since an entire lineup was rebuilt.

  2. "Her siblings are brother musician Edan Everly and sister Stacy Everly"

Well this should be easy. Since Erin only has two siblings, and it's neither of them (Edan is fairly well known in his own right, it's a famous family), that would leave Stacy's husband, assuming she has one, as the only possible candidate. Should be pretty easy to debunk this shit. I'm lazy, someone Google some more.

Those are just her full siblings, Don Everly had a bunch of kids. I can't believe the skepticism about this, no one has ever effectively impersonated Axl's particular strain of crazy. It's legit.

How does that make it any more true? "...no one has ever effectively impersonated Axl's particular strain of crazy. It's legit." No, that doesn't make it legit.

I'm somewhat willing to buy some of this... but there's been way too many false rumours on these boards of late.

It's legit. Even Chairman Jarmo is allowing it to be discussed.

So the US tour dates are also legit? He's allowing those to be discussed. Stop and think about what you're saying. As much as a lot of people dislike the guy and his quick to delete moderation, he usually allows non-slanderous rumours to be discussed.

Again, the standards around here are laughable when it comes to rumours. This may very well turn out legit, just saying, you guys are fucking hilarious at times. Jarmo didn't delete it so it's true. Is the reverse therefore true as well? He's not allowing it to be discussed, so it must be false? I bet half the haters on here would shit themselves at that idea ;)

  3. Also the fact that in the US, rap/hip hop/r&b/pop/slutwave have taken over the charts and rock is dead.

I wonder if Dre could draw the crowds Guns does in Europe/South America. Probably not. Apples and Oranges my friend. Probably a better comparison would be Alice in Chains who lost two original members including their singer (deceased), came back, got critical acclaim - but still didn't outsell CD.

  6. Let's take a break from does-he-or-doesn't-he talking about MSL and enjoy some new music from our #1 axe man, Dj.

    http://www.sixxsense.com/pages/mediavault/mediaplayer.html?uri=channels/386387/1187906

I love it. It's not as good as Life is Beautiful or Pray for Me off the first album, but it's just the first cut, and it grows on me by the minute. Well done, Dj!

DJ's the best thing on that song and I'm not saying that as a fanboy. I'm not huge on the vocals.

  7. An EP/CD of exclusively live songs would be interesting if composed SOLELY of soundboard-recorded tunes onto a great dynamic range (like 24/96 Khz); other than that, everything it pretty much 'out there' if you chase them. As for a bluray disc, I have no idea to where would somebody get 1080p pro-shot material (at least legally) on Guns N' Roses.

Either way, I used to work for a cable provider and taped the 2002 VMA performance right off the sattelite onto a VHS tape at the night of the event. I played it once to check the quality. If that can be of use....

The theory here would be as an official release from the band, not a bootleg. I'm not talking about doing something myself.

Just think it would be a cool promo for upcoming live shows.

STP did a live "album" that you got free when you bought tickets for their last tour, was kinda cool.

  8. A live e.p. would be great. Anything would be great. Why is it so hard for this band to release ANYthing since '94? I was thinking about the lack of output from this band and if we are heading into another dry spell. Below I have listed how the group started out and how it seemed like it took forever for UYI to come out but really the band was always productive and getting product out.

    GN’R official output 1987-2011

    • 1987 – album + single & videos

    • 1988 – album + 3 singles & videos

    • 1989 – song on soundtrack (w/ alice cooper)

    • 1990 – 2 singles (songs on soundtrack/benefit)

    • 1991 – 2 albums + singles & videos

    • 1992 – live VHS set + singles & videos

    • 1993 – album + singles & videos

    • ……………………………………….

    • 1998 – VHS video collection

    • 1999 – live album + song on soundtrack

    • ……………………………………….

    • 2008 – album + single

It is amazing to me that there are songs that are over 10 years still waiting to be released...

Keep in mind that the new lineup was built over years, I think of it like rebuilding a band rather than one member coming and going... it takes a long time to get back to the level you were at.

For me, this lineup is it, and it's really only been a few years now. DJ/Ron/Richard, Tommy, Chris/Dizzy, Frank, and obviously Axl. I liked the 06 lineup with Finck, like this one even more.

So I'd love to see more and more come out and the ball start rolling but I totally understand why it has taken this long.

Maybe you can understand that but there have been plenty of musicians over the years to complete enough material for release. Think about what the band accomplished in a 3 year period from 88-91 with 2 member changes. We are in an era where news, music, updates etc. can be released from Axl's phone or personal computer and we get less information or music than we did when none of that was possible. I got more updates in Hit Parader in '89 than I do now.

And look how long Brian Wilson took to finish Smile.

Look how long Dr. Dre took with his new album.

There's no point in comparing the eras because there's different people involved.

Nor did you get more updates in 89. You've got Ron and Tommy and sometimes Axl on Twitter. You had the band touring throughout the end of 2009 and virtually all of 2010. So the band is idle for a few months and you're worried? I dunno man I don't understand it.

I'm a huge Tool fan... look how long they go in their album cycle. 4, 5, 6 years consistently. Maynard talks more about making wine then about his bands. Heck I'm seeing A Perfect Circle this summer and they tour less than GN'R.

It's all relative. Just relax, things will come or they won't - in the end, it's just a band.

  10. What a load of shit. Just setlists pasted from mygnr and that dudes story. That's not a fuckin book, that's just milking money out of people stupid enough to buy it. And if I was revolver, I'd be claiming some money from these fucks

revolver doesn't get any money for this? come on, that's the only thing in that book that is worth something...

I just get my free copy of the mag.

but personally I just think it's way cool to have a foreign magazine to hold around some good memories so I don't really care for much else.. no matter what else is in it :)

It is cool, not to mention winning the contest :)

I just got my copy it was a good read, had a great time with all you guys last year

I'm taking it there aren't any photos since the band would have to ok that and this is unofficial?

  11. Ok I don't want to start a new thread so I'll bump this one:

First, anyone know where I can get some good GN'R T's / rock T's in general?

I tried ordering from backstreetmerch.com - they were out of stock on two of the shirts I wanted, had them on back order then two months(!) later told me they couldn't get them, chose two replacements, they couldn't get those either, and eventually refunded my money about 5 months after the original order.

So... since shops have crap selection, anyone know a good site that has decent prices and international/Canadian shipping that doesn't cost a fortune?

Second... *where* can I get the full band comic shirt pictured above?!?! That's fucking sweet!

  12. I wasn't a big fan of his solo album apart from that song without a view,

    which I think is great.

It's just a really desolate sounding song.

Actually listening to it now makes me think that people like Tommy, Dizzy and Ron

could sing on nu-Guns records like Duff and Izzy did on old-Guns

I'd definitely like to see Tommy doing something like that on a GN'R album some day.

  13. I vote for a dvd. I actually spent yesterday planning out a dream GNR DVD in my head. Oh, did I say DVD? I ment BLU - RAY!

Yeah I might be in a minority on this. I'm just not a "sit and watch a concert on TV" guy. I go to tons of them, and I listen to music, but when it comes to DVDs it's just movies/TV series. I'm guessing a ton want a full blown release though. Of course since we're dreaming, let it be both ;)

  14. Ok... got to thinking about the live DVD thing, all the rumours about that over the years, and the fact that I almost never put on music DVDs.

Would anyone have interest in a Live EP though?

I'm thinking a 6 song thing... maybe even an iTunes only deal.

There's a couple cover songs (Sonic Reducer, Whole Lotta Rosie) plus a couple of CD songs that I'd love to get an official release of, and I'm assuming the band has them.

Not in place of a new album, but just something to keep interest up/keep the fanbase happy, and it could be a cool promotional gig for a US leg/other tour dates.

  15. Thanks for the article.

I'm looking forward to this show. Saw him in '05 in Boston, great show and a class act.

Although I will turn down the shot of Jack Daniels if He offers it again.

That turned into the last drink I had for four years!

    I'm afraid to ask...

  16. Radiohead just announced that they will be releasing their next album digitally on Feb 19, with physical editions to follow later in the year.

Seeing bands get creative about releasing their music makes me realize just how much Axl is robbing the fans of the next album by sitting on it, probably waiting for a big fat pay off that will most likely never come. If bands like NIN and Radiohead can do this, why can't GNR?

    http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/41580233/ns/today-entertainment/

This isn't a bad idea actually. I know a lot of people will trash it, but GN'R has a pretty strong online following, and distribution this way is dirt cheap - basically just cover bandwidth, hosting, site design, and order processing etc.

I doubt Axl is waiting on any payoff though. I don't think he's holding up anything, I suspect it's the label. Funny thing is, if Chinese Democracy debuted to today's sales levels, it would easily be a #1 record. Bands like STP and Alice in Chains sold less with their recent albums and they were deemed a success. Record sales are so far down the label should be thrilled with any album that sells over 100,000 units at this point.

It's most likely a contract issue though... I think a lot of artists are probably envious of Reznor, or Billy Corgan, who can distribute their music as they see fit. There's still a lot of artists who are stuck in old school recording contracts though and owe albums to labels who no longer know how to market their product to an apathetic public that they've attacked and pissed off for years.

  17. http://blogs.dallasobserver.com/dc9/2011/02/my_first_show_elkharts_travis.php

What was the first show you ever saw with your own money?

Guns N Roses, Metallica and Faith No More at the Astrodome in 1992. It was September, we'd just started high school, and my mom dropped me, Chris Ginsbach, the girl he was dating and her friend off in the parking lot for the show. It was still daytime when we found our seats, and the light streaming through the domed roof wasn't the dark and dangerous rock 'n' roll vibe I was hoping for. Neither was Faith No More. They were terrible. Metallica took the stage about 20 minutes later, and Chris and I headbanged and watched the swarming mosh pit below. The girls went to the bathroom or something; I have no idea. We didn't care about them during Metallica. By the end of the set it was dark, we'd thrown rock 'n' roll horns in the air for the first time (a big moment for a Baptist kid) and we were feeling cool. Then G'n'F'n'R took the stage. Chris started making out with his girlfriend -- and I sat awkwardly next to her friend for the next few hours. I was 14 and profoundly un-smooth. Luckily the show was awesome. Slash did his guitar solo on top of the piano routine and Axl came out for the encore in a red hooded boxing robe with the Houston Rockets logo on the back. It was rad.

  18. Life still sounds good for GNR's Tommy Stinson

    Modern-day replacement

    February 15, 2011

Bass in hand, Tommy Stinson has been part of two notorious and revered rock-and-roll legacies. Three decades ago, he was a founding member of the Replacements, Minneapolis's great punk hope. He was there for their raw 1981 debut, Sorry Ma, Forgot To Take Out the Trash, plus the boozed-up spectacle that was a 1986 Saturday Night Live performance, spats with leader Paul Westerberg, their early-'90s break-up, and the creation of dozens of stellar songs that defined college radio. Then in 1998, he added another lineage, replacing Duff McKagan in Guns N' Roses. His first contributions to be heard by long-suffering Guns fans were the bass lines to "Oh My God," from the End of Days soundtrack.

His famous bands have little in common, but Stinson finds some common ground. "Initially, both bands were very much what rock and roll is about," he says over the phone from Philly. "What we did in the Replacements wasn't really all that different, except that they actually wrote together. There was a danger to it. It kind of comes from the drugs and alcohol and the way you see things when you start off. They're both similar in that very regard. Other than that, vastly different."

Stinson's legacy isn't entirely based on playing back-up. He's also chiseled out a side career as a guitarist and singer, creating a repertoire of hooky alt-rock songs in side projects Bash & Pop and Perfect and, most recently, in work released under his own name. (He also played with Soul Asylum around 2005.) His lead work seesaws between sweet and brash in a way that conjures a certain musician he spent years with, but he doesn't mind the easy Westerberg invocations. "I mean, shit, I was a little kid when we started in the Replacements. I learned a lot from him as well as the music he was into plus [manager] Peter Jesperson's influence. I'm not trying to sound like him or any of that kind of thing, but I can tell you right now: how would I not sound somewhat Replacements-like, being that I grew up in it, unless I was really trying to separate myself?"

A life in rock and roll has taught him a few things, and not giving too much of a shit is probably number one. A bevy of pursuits helps keep his main gig from getting stale. When not globetrotting with Guns N' Roses, he picks his own music up off the back burner. He self-financed 2004's VillageGorillaHead, his solo debut, so he could retain total control, and he's planning to do the same with his second record, which is due soon. "It might be a little more rootsy, and it might be more rocking," he says of the new album. "I've got more slide on this than the last one."

His freewheeling sensibility also leaves room for random runs of shows, like the one this Sunday at Church. He plans to perform solo, hitting a bunch of new tracks as well as some Bash & Pop and Perfect songs. Just don't expect any Mats or Guns tracks, he warns.

Life isn't bad for a guy who picked up the bass when he was 11 years old because the late Bob Stinson, his brother and the Replacements' guitarist, bribed him with Coke and candy. "I guess I got kind of good at it maybe too," he says of his instrument. "Some could dispute that, I suppose, but I don't give a shit. It's served me well for fuckin' 30 years."

    ----

Tommy was also on WXPN 85.5 FM in Philly today and spoke about GN'R's 2010 tour. Anyone catch it? Some new tracks were debuted from his solo stuff.

  19. Jericho had a radio show as well, that might be what he was a fan of. Or he might just have ment talking music as a fan of music in general. I think we probably forget that most rock guys are big into music as fans themselves. They all got into it 'cuz of bands they loved growing up after all.

Pretty cool though. Wrestling's not really my thing (used to watch it now and then) but out of the two wrestlers being talked about on the boards these days, I'd much rather hear about Jericho ;)

  20. Guys just chill.

No doubt the management change will delay the process a bit, but it's clear the band wants to tour the U.S., hence DJ is "looking forward to it." How that one innocent comment gets blown up is beyond me.

I still think GN'R should do some major markets in the U.S., and do a Mexican leg as well. For the U.S., well, 02 and 06 they did winter tours, I'd really suggest a summer shed tour with a strong supporting act (meaning Amphitheater shows) if possible. That would be pretty awesome. Then Rock In Rio if possible (I don't think the full lineup was announced?)

  21. http://www.hennemusic.com/2010/12/guns-n-roses-named-hennemusics-rock.html

    http://www.antimusic.com%2Fnews%2F10%2Fdec%2F30Guns_N_Roses_Named_Top_Rock_News_Artist_of_2010.shtml

GN'R were voted top rock news artist of 2010 by Hennemusic readers... I have no idea what that site is, but antimusic ran with the story. If it proves anything, it's that websites and magazines will print any little story with even a minor mention of GN'R.
