melody, you can work a good rhythm around a melody and come out with a banging track but with rhythm and no melody you can still make a good track but it won't have that quality to it where it's like...got that X factor. Melody is what makes a song stick in your head, rhythm is what drives it. Depends what you're looking for in a given track i suppose.
